Things one misses from the original game
Heraclea replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
I do wish those settings did something, if only to give the same badges you get if you set them in Ouroboros. I always set the time and deaths when I start a task force, if only because the TF completion text gives you more data. I always take care to let the team know the settings are only for fun. Once was on a Citadel with all the enemies buffed and players debuffed settings on for the hell of it. Took more than three hours. And in the end, no badge, nothing to prove that we did it. -
WHY is your favourite toon your favourite?
Heraclea replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in General Discussion
I won't say I don't have favorites - some characters clicked more than others - but I don't have any one character that is my all time favorite. Which character I will enjoy most also is strongly contingent on what content is being run; just as a for instance, I'm not a huge fan of playing masterminds, too fussy, but they come into their own on the BAF and ship raids. So.... Heraclea - the tanker's tanker, Invulnerability/Dark Melee. If you dislike defeat and debt I recommend this combo, much more fun than Stone. Can prevail over most content by sheer brute force. Recently trotting her out more since the improvements to Dark Melee. Another favorite tanker is Baroness Munchhausen (spines/rad); tuned for DPS, but still a tanker. Sabra (spines/energy) and Oya Iyansan (electric/shield), scrappers. Been on something of a scrapper kick recently. Scrappers with defense armor sets that also have taunt auras make me happy, and with those two considerations met I'd rather be a scrapper than a brute/ Sabra is a relatively recent creation. Oya Iyansan was rolled two years ago and only recently piqued my interest. Retiaria (staff/ninger) is a pure concept creation, an attempt to make a specific kind of Roman gladiator. Concept characters are easier to build as scrappers than anything else for melee. Plaster Caster (archery/devices) and Ice Minstrel (ice/plants). If getting played daily makes a character a favorite, Ice Minstrel is definitely my favorite, because she's been built for Hamidon raiding and as such gets played almost daily. Plaster Caster is more general purpose. Elixabeth Bathory, poison/dark defender. Took me a while to find a defender I enjoyed. I like this combo mostly because almost all of the powers are aimed at enemies rather than at teammates, which makes her enjoyable to play. If the call is for Barracuda or Kahn she's your best friend. -
My fire/regen scrapper does not run Tough or Weave. I built for regen and recharge on the character, not defense bonuses, and the piddling amount of defense and resistance you get frim the fighting pool struck me as lipstick on a pig. The character is specialized and not my main scrapper, but she has moments. I raid Hamidon with her - she flies - and run Shadow Shard TFs and lowbie content with her as well. Running fighting pool toggles would take away her recovery advantage. That, and her indifference to damage types, are the reasoning behind the build.

My unscientific impression is that Everlasting, while not as big as Excelsior, seems to have a higher percentage of its player base playing villains than any other. This is probably to be expected from a server where roleplayers hang out.

Things one misses from the original game
Heraclea replied to Techwright's topic in General Discussion
All of the original and varied mobs you used to get when running Maria Jenkins and Tina Macintyre missions. All gone, replaced with generic Praetorian robots and soldiers. Statesman. Yes, the character was a bit of a tool, not the hero's hero he was presented as. This itself is what made him an irresistible figure of fun. The original Sister Psyche task force. No worse than Citadel, really. Lots of XP. Dreck and his map. AFAIAC the Freakshow were ruined by adding Super Stunners. -
* Oh, really? Got to be the dumbest mission entry text in the game. Reaching for that big deep statement, it falls on its behind.

Brainfart on my part, of course. It's the lethal that they resist almost as heavily as they do psi.

I decided that 'Yansan' didn't quite carry the concept and made her sound like a Swede who couldn't spell, so I renamed the character to 'Oya Iyansan' and the original name is now available.

I have it on a scrapper and rather enjoy it. Insight is rather like the Savage stacks; it's difficult or impossible to parlay into burst damage, so in practice I ignore it. Mass Levitate is great fun. And Boggle just means more build freedom. My understanding is that Council robots also have 50% resistance to smashing damage as well,

Any Savage Melee, Titan Weapons, and Super Strength changes?
Heraclea replied to Neo Nocturna's topic in General Discussion
The stacks on Savage Melee are like the insight mechanic on Psionic Melee. On the characters using those power sets, I pay them no heed and enjoy them all the same. -

I have made posters for most of my more recent AE missions. These will have been posted in the AE forum, If anyone wants to mix up the movie posters on various buildings in the cities, help yourself to them.

It's for just that reason that we usually put the name of the song and artist in text in each entry, so that the search engine can find them,

What bothers me most is that the AI these NPCs are given does not make them act like rescued hostages who are trying to escape. Dr. Todd in Moonfire is probably the worst offender here. She apparently has kinetic powers that enable her to run extra fast towards any mob she sees, which she will immediately attack after being rescued from a group of the same. Using the Assemble the Team trick is about the only way not to fail that mission, and you had better hope that she's still stuck on a teammate rather than running around unsupervised. Hers is the worst death wish, I think, though Lady Jane and Fusionette are not much better.

The prices for luck charms on old live did wonders for Mission Architect. On HC, I am discovering that the optimal ratio of enhancement holders to salvage holders in a SG base needs to be revised. During the last weeks of my sojourn in WoW, I had a very nice thorium and mithril racket working. This worked because anyone who wanted to develop weapon or armorsmithing had to pass through the level that needed them in bulk, and thanks to the expansions the zones where thorium and mithril grew were abandoned. AFAICT nothing of the sort is possible on HC.
