One caveat is you cannot buy something you have listed for sale from the same character. One can do this using two characters on the same account, but the auction won't let the same character buy something the character has listed for sale (or vice versa, you can't sell something to your own bid).

Sometimes it may look like this is happening due to pre-existing bids or offers though; but in this case you just bought someone else's item that was priced right, and sold your thing to yet another person who had a bid just right.

This is very important to remember.  You can trade with a different character on a different account, and you can trade with a different character on the *same* account.  But one of the first things the algorithm checks is if there is a high enough bid or a low enough offer *and not on the same character*.  There are lots of times that people accidentally mess themselves up by locking or inverting a market.  In general, it's a good idea to not have bids and offers for the same item on the same character unless you really know what you are doing.

The reason I do this is so that I free up market slots more quickly doing bulk buys or sells. If I have thousands of something to sell (e.g., salvage or converters), and only 200 market slots, and I price at the same exact value, then they tend to sell out sort of randomly (as Yomo noted, not purely randomly) and leave a mess of partial stacks occupying my market slots. However, if they're posted in increments, then the lower offers always sell out first (and higher bids always buy out first), and this frees up market slots more efficiently so I can post even more for sale (or bid).

When you are buying or selling large amounts of the same item, I have noticed that it tends more towards LIFO (last in, first out) rather than FIFO (first in, first out) and I'll change that in the initial post.  According to Uberguy (all hail), each time a new bid/offer comes in at the same price, the ranking of the lists reset in a way that I think is inherent to the underlying computer language rather than being specifically programmed for the /AH.  I think that my LIFO observation (and this is mainly noticeable if you are using different characters) is based at least in part of the increased size of the pool.  Example:  If you have bids for 100 widgets at 100 inf on Character A, and that's the highest bid, the next widget put up for sale at or under 100 will trade to Character A (but it's difficult to tell which slot it will be allocated to).  But if Character B puts in bids to 200 widgets at 100 inf, even if the allocation is completely random, it will trade to Character B 2/3 of the time.  That said, it isn't quite random and it isn't quite orderly and I'm frankly not going to worry about it one way or another.

  2. Battleaxe gets pendulum at level 8 now.  A former T9 at level 8!  (Admittedly, they tuned back the damage a bit).

Axe Cyclone with a few slots in it (let's say by level 25) would have you dominating in your mid-20s.

[EDIT: as @kelika2 notes, a tanker gets burn at 18 and pendulum at 20, which will be very very powerful in your early 20s.]

In character creation do you abandon if you cannot come up with a costume or name you like?

It depends on how the inspiration came about.  If the name is the inspiration, and if it is already taken, then I move on and don't even start.  If the powers are the inspiration then I work until I find something I like.  I frequently end up changing costumes and names.

How many levels do you go before you decide a character isn't for you?

I like to get to 7 or 8 right away.  It doesn't take very long, especially with double xp, and I've got a pretty good system for those early levels.  Even though they have not instituted any name givebacks yet, I like to get them above the short level break (5, I think?).

When you abandon a character do you delete it, or just leave it now that we have 1,000 slots?

I've got a short attention span, so when I stop spending time on a project it's usually because something else more pressing has come along.  Sometimes it's even outside of this game!  Recently, I've started pruning characters, but those are mainly theme or challenge characters that stopped being interesting.  I only delete it if I can honestly say to myself, well, never gonna play THAT one again.

Do you expect to go back to old characters or once you move on are the old ones dead to you?

Never say die!  Sometimes I come back to old concepts that have new life due to changes either in the Homecoming rules or in my increased understanding of the mechanics.

  4. You will probably get lots of people who will tell you to convert them to xxxx and sell them and to do it in the most efficient manner so as to maximize your inf.  And there are several ways that can net you about 20mm inf for 100 merits.

You can also use them to get items that you want to use for yourself.  100 merits for a Winter-O is totally reasonable.  100 merits for a purple is fine, but you could probably net out a little better by selling items and buying the purple directly and have a few mm inf left over.  100 merits for an ATO is also fine if you really want that ATO, but again you could almost certainly net out better by selling items and buying the ATO directly.  That said, there is no problem with using them to buy an item you want, even if in theory you could get it cheaper some other way.  It's not like you are starving your children.

Saving them for badges is also reasonable, but since I am well versed in the conversion process, I spend all mine on converters and use them to convert.

This is a little joke i share with my Orange Tabby Cat named Comet.  His powers in game are Claws/SR.  I'm planning on a cheap build.  I have about 590 million to play with.  I could use some help, with a build.

    Thanks in advance.

I've got two tribute characters for my cats, one of which passed away two years ago.  590mm should be able to get you most of whatever you want, but if not, let me know via DM and I can probably help you out.  Cats are cool.  (So are dogs.)

  6. "Yomo," people ask me, "what enhancements do you personally find indispensible?"*

Any new character will buy the following, all attuned (because I like the look, although it does make a difference for some enhancements)

    and in this order:

Panacea proc (to go in Health as soon as level 7)

Kismet proc (to go in a defense power, probably Combat Jumping, as soon as level 7)

Shield Wall proc (to go in a defense power, probably Combat Jumping, as soon as level 7)

Steadfast Protection proc (to go in a resist damage power, probably Tough, as soon as level 7 but if Tough at 14)

Performance Shifter proc (to go in Stamina at level 17)

Reactive Defenses proc (to go in a defense power, probably Combat Jumping, as soon as level 17)

Usually both sets of ATOs.  I don't always use them, depending on AT, and I generally start to slot them somewhere in my 20s.

It is difficult for me to imagine ever building a character that didn't have all of these enhancements.

    * In fact, no one has ever asked me this.  Consider it poetic license.

I suppose I should qualify my comment with "...at least on Brutes" because I'm still leveling my first Stalker, but I plan to put two Cytos in there like I do elsewhere once I have it.  While the ToHit debuff resistance is the star of the show, the extra ToHit is nice too.  It's expensive for a reason!

Some people drop a Gaussian's Build Up proc in there but I am not sold on that yet.

Cytos are great!  I use 2x lvl 53 and attuned Lotg recharge on every power like Weave when I’m 50.  But it’s costly and I get better endurance reduction my way.  Unless I get my to hit debuffed ive already got plenty to hit.

I vastly prefer to get Gaussian proc n demand, so I’ll put it in a build up like power.  Lacking that, however, random proc of that is better than a stick in the eye.

Thank you everyone.  That is excellent advice so far.

    What are Cytos?

Cytoskeletons are Hami-origin enhancements (HO).  they enhance defense/to-hit/endurance reduction.

Focused Accuracy is mostly helpful for the to hit debuff resistance, so when I take it I slot it with 2x lvl 50+5 endurance reduction IOs.

    1) How necessary is KB to KD for play at the higher levels? As a Tank I've been driven mad at lower levels with my carefully gathered mobs getting blown all over the map, but looking at slotting I've things I'd much rather use that Foot Stomp slot for than KB/KD.

KB and KD are the same dynamic, and it's just a matter of magnitude.  Footstomp is 0.67 base, which will be knockdown for any foe your level or higher, so you shouldn't be knocking back unless they are below your level, are vulnerable to knockback (like clockwork), or there is another source of knockdown which gets the total mag over 0.75 or so.

If you really want to be goofy you can make any battle axe build a hover blaster build like I did with kinetic melee here . I know @Yomo Kimyata has a soft spot for BA blasting.

Ugh, don't get me started!  The new battle axe is so overpowered!  I'll have to dig up my rant on one of your old posts, but yes, battle axe/ninja makes a ridiculous hover blaster.  thanks for reminding me -- I had to find mine, which is currently around lvl 30.

Kyoyo, despite being a click, can solve your end problems.

I'm not there yet. and I actually anticipate this being endurance hungry.  Currently looking at Body mastery.

A good density of FF procs can be an alternative to just cramming hasten into every single build and it's one less click to manage since you'll most likely be putting Kuji rin on auto.

Yes, but you don't really need that many FF procs, in my opinion.  In my standard play, I just put one in Pendulum and one in Axe Cyclone.  I find that since the proc has a chance to proc on each hit, and since I'm knee deep in enemies, it will generally proc.  I also only take 5 attacks from Axe:  Chop, Pendulum, Swoop, Axe Cyclone, Cleave.

No slow resist. Ninjitsu is almost like fire armor or regen. The clicks are integral to your survival.

    Absolutely agree.

  11. I recently updated Mids and currently the API doesn't fit on my screen.  Specifically the Epic/Patron pool section gets cut off after the title and the first two power selections, which means I cannot select any others.  There used to be a slider that enabled you to scroll down, but that seems to have been removed for both all the pool powers, but also for primary and secondary powers.  Sadly, this makes the app unusable for me and so I'm returning to pencil and paper.

I have tried changing the font sizes in Configuration but that only affects the font size and not the box size that has been allocated to each of the pools.

  12. Since Energy Absorption is a click power, those procs will only have a chance to activate upon the use of the power.  On the one hand, this would generally mean you would get the effects on demand when you activate it, since I would expect the overall probability of activation to be at least 90%.  On the other hand, you might get more overall health and endurance by putting those procs in a passive power, like Stamina.  On the gripping hand, you're probably not going to be struggling for endurance on an Ice Armor brute, but maybe the heal could be incrementally useful .

As far as overall slotting, I emphasize recharge over endurance modification over defense, but I slot all of them.  I think my Yomo(tm) "standard" is lvl 50+5 Shield Wall Defense and D/R, 2x lvl 53 DSO Conduit (End Mod/R), and an Energy Manipulator % to stun.  I usually don't need a LotG +rech or any other defense proc in there since it usually goes elsewhere, but you may get good value there..  People sometimes question the stun proc, but I'm pretty happy with an 8 second mag 2 (minions) stun on command.  You could put the Triumphant Insult stun proc in there as well, but it's only an additional +1 mag for 2 seconds.

  14. I have plenty of homages but I will refrain from mentioning any of them in case someone has a heavy hand with the generic button.  I remember the good old days when devs used to generic things when people reported them rather than when the devs screened the forums looking for names.

  15. Apologies for the necro, but I'd rather bring this back than start a functionally identical post.

I've been using this pool more and more on my army of scrappers, and thought maybe Id share.

Adrenal Booster is the prize of the set.  A 60 second power with a 600 second cooldown; for me that means that I can have it active about 1/4 to 1/3 of the time.  +34.6% damage boost, which is always nice.  +34.6% recharge speed, which is also very nice.  Looks like control effects last 34.6% longer, but I've never really paid attention to that.  None of this is enhanceable.  +34.6% to hit boost, which is a LOT, and which is also enhanceable.  I've been three slotting it with 3 lvl 53 Membrane HOs (which gets you deeply into the red ED zone on recharge time and to hit buffs), but functionally you should be fine with 2x lvl 50+5 recharge IOs since the base to hit is probably sufficient for my purposes.  If you don't have a build-up type power, the Gaussians proc is a good add and will have max proc chances.

My two "pre-req" pool picks are generally Speed of Sound and Experimental Injection, and I will stick with the base slot on each (where I will put the Winter's Gift Slow Resistance and the Preventative Medicine chance for absorb respectively).  the PM proc will trigger no matter where it is in your build, so that's just a useful mule and I don't think I've ever actually used it on an ally, because I'm short-sighted and selfish like that.  More PM pieces would give some nice set bonuses.

I've tried Toxic Dart in the past, but like most pool attacks, it's not powerful.  Personally I would not use it (or most pool attacks) as part of an attack chain but would use it as a ranged attack to pull if I didn't have one elsewhere.

Corrosive Vial isn't a bad power at all, but it doesn't often make the cut.  It summons a pseudo-pet on the target and affects foes in an 8 foot radius.  That's small but as a scrapper in melee range I'm generally going to max out and hit the max of five enemies.  It does not take direct accuracy enhancements, so procs that require to hit rolls (I think just damage procs) are going to have a tough time hitting unless you use set IOs that have accuracy.  The power takes defense debuff sets, ranged AoE sets, and universal damage sets.  A no-brainer for me is an Achilles Heel proc and an Annihilation proc (although I've never bothered to check the combat logs on how often or even if they trigger.)  If I have a ton of free slots, I'll two slot Ragnarok with the A/R and the knockdown proc and/or two slot Frozen Blast for the slow resist.
