  1. So, there are changes you do not like in the MMO you like and other people like those changes. You are under the impression these things, with no real proof, are unilaterally 'bad'. You came onto the ofrum for that MMO and started in on the changes you don't like. People disagreed. Welcome to MMOs. Perhaps you would like to write a nice piece on the things you think are bad, hopefully after research and void of assuptions, to offer to the current development teams? I am pretty sure they are open to actual fleshed out ideas.
  2. Yes, it is the Internet, and uninformed, snarky, attack language will get you what you sling. You came in swinging, don't get all sensitive now. And to top it all off, a ton of what you claim is easily proven false from cursory searching. Finally, your emotioanl investment is yours to maintain ans cultivate. The game runners nor the other posters here are the stewards of your emotional well being and investment. So, if you have valid concerns abour specif power additions and changes, mad by the original team or not, please share. Personally, I think the original team made some terrible choices and some really good choices. The current state, IMO, has a number of really good choices added and a few that I don't like. This is NOTHING new or different from any MMO. Personally, I also think in repect for the team working to keep the servers running, it is to a degree our respnsibility as players to bring up up issues in the game that might point to 'broken' things, so if some power(set)s are are really off, we should point that out to insure it it is WAI, because everyone makes mistakes. The server runners, as stated by others, are working as best they can, learning as they go, being rude to them helps no one. Finally, this is no longer CoX. That is gone. Even i24 server have hands in the cookie jar. This codebase is it's own entity now that will grown and change, just like other rogue servers of MMOs past, so hold on for the ride, or hop off if it is not your thing. The original developers and thier ideas were not/are not 'perfect' and things change.
  3. Was sad when I heard the idea was dropped in Beta. Personally prefer classless type RPG mechanics, especially for Supers, to make unique characters. Classes and prescribed roles in MMOs can be so limiting. But what works in some places does not always translate to an MMO, especially one that has to make money. It seems most gamers prefer classes and levels, that's what gets made.
  4. Did you make an SG or what? :)
  5. Pretty sure that would be a power balancing nightmare. Not sure. The way some of the underlying multipliers for ATs work, the right kind of 'role' mods might do it. Total speculation until I see the code, really. :) And personally, I would clamp down any real outliers a little, but I would not expect such a system to be capable of producing 'balanced' chracters, because I don't really see that as a hard requirement. Close would be fine for me. If you pick two non-offensive powersets, then perhaps you should be planning a super team where others will be DPS. Provided 'one combo does not rule them all', I think it would be fun.
  6. I understand. IME, I simply cannot trust that this same player is not ignoring/bemoaning a better/more fun for you power that you might never give a try, because they did not know how to use it right, did not like the animation, etc. Right now, look at most any X/Y combo thread on any AT, you will find powers and powersets that one person calls bad/good when nothing supports the argument other than "I don't like it/I like it", no data, nothing.
  7. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, thanks, I needed that!
  8. What you describe is simply a trolly/inexperienced/young player IMO. This idea that almost all KBs are somehow out to ruin the fun is just silly from my PoV. Dark mitigates with -toHit, KB does it in a different way. KB is super fun as a mitigation tool, while watching awesome ragdoll and creating just the sort of chaos some players don't like. I have sparred for about 18 years now with players over KB, no biggie. IME, people that don't like KB are not fun to play games with, because I like to play, not plod along doing the Tank-herd-wait-here-rinse-repeat. As soon as I see 'but the Tank has to herd' then I know we won't play well together anyway, it's just boring, IMO. I was on a team where the Tank was doing this for some of the larger rooms and I left at the first chance. Was not using a KB character. I get that some portion of the population likes this 'dungeon crawl' experience. Different players desire very different playstyles and I love that CoH can provide both. Dark/Dark blasters fill another of the playstyle niches and like all combos, _something_ could be tweaked, but IME they are fun/fine as-is. I won't derail any further.
  9. Right there with you. Tried a few Sentinels because I like the idea. They are treated like some sort of 'cheat' AT by some people, yet in reality, IMO, they are far from being tank-mages. I have played many other ATs that blow them away, IME, while filling a hole concept wise, in game they are very 'meh'. There was a post early on this board, I think, along the lines of "players can never be trusted to make game/rule choices". With this kind in binary, 'closed' thinking, we would never have games. So a (new) AT/power/combo is over or under tuned for a while or even indefinately? So what? Even now there are lots of 'arguably superior' combos...those are not the only ones played. If someone loves Sentenals, awesome, they are having fun. Why should anyone care who added them or who uses them?
  10. I do find it odd. Most of the requests I see are basically wanting the formula to play the whole game so no thought has to be used. While I think I generally understand the desire for 'passive entertainment', 'effort free', the interactive aspects of MMOs and games in general are interactive entertainment - playing someone elses 'build' or following thier 'path' is like loading up thier saved game and finishing it, from my perspective. I mean, if you are just logging in to basically follow someone elses formulae, why not just watch a Twitch stream of someone else playing? :) And here, you can easily see this - look at the top two ATs made - the 'famous' ones for being the most 'profitable'. Well aware people play for lots of reasons, this is just an area where for years I have just not understood why someone wants a guide to the maze when the game is figuring out the maze. :)
  11. Still hoping for a freeform where you can choose any primary/secondardy set and a 'role' for +/- flavor. Yes, some things would have to be worked out, but it is the 'original' CoH idea and I love it. IIRC, it got canned because you could make characters who could not solo, or even have any attacks. IMO, this would rock! And no, it is not my intent to 'game the system and make more tank-mages'. I love the creativity and flexibility. Clamps on numbers to make it enjoyable would be the fun part to build. :) One day I might find the time.
  12. It's not like they don't have Internet access if they are playing. Why would you even _trust_ a random player to give you valid data over thier opinion, 'helper' or not 'frequent forum poster' or not? It simply baffles me, always has, I guess I am the odd man out here. I simply never trust another player to give me an unbiased opinion on any game aspect.
  13. That is a terrible idea IMO. Why hate on KB? KB is AWESOME.
  14. My standard is simple. It is a (super)hero game. Are Thor and Haweye 'balanced'? :)
  15. I get where the OP is coming from...however...personally, I do not understand asking others about how something plays unless you know them personally/well, simply because of the human condition. IME, the only way to know is to just play the character and see for yourself. At a fundamental level, I prefer to find informaiton with my own experiences rather than asking other people to cloud the view with thier lens. IMO, someones joy or hate of a class is typically just as useless to me as a theory build...
  16. Personally I see it as just another change, not good or bad, it just 'is'. I also think this game in terms of forums and stuff is in an odd spot. Back in it's heyday, forums were more popular. Since the Live sunset, forums sporouted up all over to discuss and mourn. IMO, many if not most 'CoH community' members that are avid Internet posters probably already have the forum they like - adding this one just dillutes in the end. So, for the old-guard, forums are more comfortable. Gamers as whole have moved on to other communication channels and 'corporate' gaming forums are little more than whine-fests, where real conversations occur instead on reddit or other places, not censored by the game makers. So for this game, IMO, it's in an odd spot in terms of where players might prefer to get thier information. Personally, I simply default to wherever the 'game maker' seems to post the most good data and watch that channel for news if I am in a hype cycle. Now a funny one is that to many young gamers, _Discord_ is for 'old' people...from the startup 'sayings' to the UI...so, things change, fast.
  17. Energy Blast/Kinetics or Kin/EB... I mean, I love me some chaos and KB, but I tried this one and even I have my masochistic limits...
  18. With DP/MA, I duo with a Arch/TA blaster. Both around 28-29 right now. Filled with basic IOs on both, plus a couple extras on both. I bascically 'tank'. Either start with purples and reds or finish with greens as available. We set to 5 players. I teleport in with the MA attack, Dragon's Tail everything, leap out while fire Hail of Bullets, then MA teleport back in so I can kick the remaining mobs, jump out firing whatever is up... So much fun. We just roll on through most everything, never ever was able to do this well on Live with blasters until they were Set IOed to the ears. Do you have a pine build of this? I've been really interested in Martial Combat and been waffling between doing either a blaster or sentinel DP build. Just noticed this. I have slotted one accuracy IO into each attack, three damage IOs, and in most cases now some reacharge in all attacks at level 41. The only specials I have are a -KB, the PvP chance for -Res, and last night a shiny LoTG +Recharge. Any sufficiently mez-heavy enemies hurt us bad, as do the CoT and other dark casters. Still works pretty well, definiately going to invest in a long-term build.
  19. OK, we need to start the Knockback Bureau (KB for short, of course) SG Alliance. Perhaps a KB chat channel? I see possibilities.
  20. what's a discord? They have these beautiful forums here for that kind of information. Why would they use some other site? Because Discord is the channel most used by gamers today, forums like this are really just for most gamers to complain. :) Really.
  21. I think this is a "mentality" in the game that I identify with strongly. However I'm aware that there are lots that don't. I shall prepare a goblet for their tears. Yup. I gave up years ago on Live on even trying to team with people I do not know on KB based characters. I have seen so much Hate over the years in all forms of games over KB. It has been my experience that a majoriity of multi-player gamers simply focus on the 'rewards over time' over what I just call 'fun'. It's not even remotely new, we had these same conversations in the first week of the Live game. I think I might have just come up with my first Mod idea - Tags on Characters - KB/Speed Runs/Kill All/Etc. I have been know to out things like 'I love KB and have a ton of it' in my bios as well.
  22. The only thing a non-conformist hates is a non-conformist that does not conform to the rules of non-conformity.
  23. That's helpful, for those using Discord. For those not, it is next to useless. Discord isn't adequate as the sole source of ETA for service restoration. So make a new place. These guys are not your servants. Dsicord is how they choose to operate. Use it or don't, making demands on thier kungfu is just rude.
  24. This is my opinion as well. While I have a very curious mind and I like to understand the 'why and how' of things, there are simply too many 'Internet anonymous' humans involved here to get to the 'truth' w/o a professional involved and even then, eh. There are also reasons it was secret for so long...uncovering details may well paint more than one person or enitity in a bad light...that is the sort of thing that impacts public reputations and bottom lines... Personally, I have chosen to let this mystery fade away...at best it is just idle curiosity, at worst, it's 'evidence'. We get to play CoH now. The code and binaries are in the wild, so the genie will live on in the future. Enjoy playing the game. :)
  25. My En/En blaster describes my entire interaction with the CoH playerbase in a nutshell. IMO, knockback and chaos are fun. To a large number of players, XP/second is the only thing that matters and what I call fun, playing the game, moving around, many call 'work' or a 'grind'. IMO, En/En blasters, Illusion/Storm controllers, things like these combos are the most fun to be had in the game. Yet, since XP/second might dip, that AoE might miss a few, whatever, "OMG GTFO" is the attitude I find most of the time. I am just glad I actually love playing solo or just duoing with RL a friend. So many people I run into in MMOs just seem like they forgot about fun and only concern themsleves with ROI. IMO. For some, 'progression=dopamine hit' while for me, just playing a Hero is a good dopamine fix.
