That much is clear. I don't think referencing a brief scene from Iron Man 2 is "complex background lore baggage". They could do it as part of the title intro to set up the story, like they did with showing the accident that created the Hulk in The Incredible Hulk. A lot, if not most, of the build up for Thanos was done in short post-credit scenes. All they'd need to do is have one or two lines of dialogue to refer back to that Senate hearing scene in the story and that's the tie in. No need to elaborate on it more. The rest is a 100% self contained standalone story.

Why would they abandon something that's worked so well for them? World building a shared universe that was creating the story of the forming of the Avengers is something the MCU is hailed for and other studios have been desperately trying to replicate.

That's weird to me too. Stark was saying in Iron Man 2 that the rest of the world was 10 years or so from being able to create armor like Iron Man. That's a thread that could be picked up for her story, and I think she's perfect to pair up with Rhodey to set this in the Armor Wars story line. With Stark dead, she's the only one with the brains and the talent to carry on what Stark had done. Would make perfect sense for her to be working with Rhodey keeping the War Machine armor running while improving upon the technology.

Only thing I didn't care for was the Bat symbol. It was too big and in most shots looked like a black rectangle on the chest. I get they were going for The Dark Knight Returns vibe with it, but I agree it looked off in that respect. I rather liked what they did with the material with the thought that its a garment that Kryptonians would wear in everyday life. I also like how they incorporated Kryptonian script into the costume. I thought that was a nice touch. It looked very cool on Supergirl in the Flash too. She was the best thing about that movie.

I liked the costumes in the Snyder films. I had initially thought Superman would look weird without the trunks, but it turned out really well I think. The suit looked a lot better as time went on in BvS and Justice League. Man of Steel was nice, but too dark I think. I'm still not sold on this latest version, but who knows maybe it will be fine.

Rumor has it Sasha Baren Cohen is going to be Mephisto, and the Hood here is being controlled by him. Not sure if that's real or not though, so take it as a rumor.

Oh the irony isn't lost on me at all. It's always someone else with a different opinion than you who is the "shitty, formulaic grifter." What you're saying about reviewers like Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker isn't true either. It would be true if they never posted a positive review of anything ever. They have posted many positive reviews on films and TV shows over the years, so them having an opinion on critical and financial flops and why those projects were failures doesn't make them a "shitty, formulaic grifter." If you had watched any of their content, you'd also see they're not hoping these projects fail. Like everyone else, they'd like for these to be good films with a good story and well rounded, fleshed out characters. You might have a different opinion than they do on how to go about doing that, and that's perfectly fine. You're certainly welcome to your opinion just as much as they are welcome to theirs. ^100%

I'll stick with "No thanks" 🤣

Fair enough. I didn't care for the dark and brooding Superman in the Snyder films either.

I'm hopeful people will eventually stop whinging over others having a different opinion or worldview than they do. I'm also hopeful someday people will stop trying to blame "social media hacks" for "poisoning the public perception" for shit movies flopping at the box office. Whether or not this movie will be a hit or flop isn't known at this point. I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt, but I do have my reservations. James Gunn has done some good work before, so the movie may be great. Then again, given the propensity Hollywood has to produce overly preachy content, the concern @PeregrineFalcon has is legit. Remember, it's not the message, it's the delivery.

It's cancellation announcement.

Official trailer I don't have a good feeling about this.

What else can I say except "No, thank you."

So box office results for the second weekend fell off the usual cliff and are down close to 45% from opening weekend. Despite decent reviews, the box office is still tracking behind CA: BNW, which was a flop. Mates that have seen it mostly said it was ok, but nothing special, which is better than the last few MCU films. I'll wait for it on D+.

Why?! - Why all the new directions at Marvel/Disney

Anyone who read the Infinity War saga in the comics? It's not like they were completely unknown. -

Like the forthcoming Ironheart. It didn't sell in the comics. No idea why they'd go with that for a series. -
Yeah, there are shills on either side of the spectrum in the movie review business. People I know who have similar tastes to mine who saw it said it was ok. Nothing spectacular, but nothing like the Marvels. That's better than expected for the turds Marvel has been churning out. This one might actually recoup its budget.

$76 million opening in the US is below CA: BNW. Predictions are this film is going to follow the same pattern and drop off the cliff week 2. Reviews I've read and heard put this in the "ok" to "meh" category. Not "The Marvels" horrible, but nothing special either.

Why did you watch it then? You know this is his thing.

Why?! - Why all the new directions at Marvel/Disney
ZacKing replied to Troo's topic in Comic, Hero & Villain Culture
Marvel/Disney is doing what every studio does - milking a franchise for all they can. There's nothing wrong with trying new stuff. Their problem is the stuff they're choosing to do. They're picking projects that didn't sell well, if at all, when it was a comic and thinking it will all of a sudden find an audience as a movie or streaming series. -

The Fantastic Four: First Steps

I knew this a long time ago. Fairly clear who has issues with women or anything feminine about their characters. -

No. You're totally wrong. Ripley was brought up along with Sarah Connor as clear examples of compelling female characters that have a strong maternal instinct as part of their motivations behind their actions. This was done to refute your statements that female characters who are mothers and/or have strong maternal instincts (like Sue Storm) are shallow, boring and weak. Again, Ripley's backstory being expanded in the second film to include her having had a child didn't diminish her character in the least. She was still very much compelling, intelligent, brave and resourceful. She did what a team of highly trained, well armed soldiers were unable to do.
