Probably not broke actually, if they’re not making IO’ed builds or lots of alts(idk about the latter, they might be). But to claim AVs are broken in damage is uhm…wrong. Not exactly disingenous because it wasn’t intentional I think? But definitely wrong. I solo’d AVs on my fenders, especially my Poison/Fire and he has absolutely no defense. If CoH players are telling you “git gud” you have well and truly messed up somewhere and honestly need to reevaluate how you play.

Neither. Damage. Def will be covered by barrier cycling. I repeat DO NOT GO ALL IN ON DEF OR RES. I have run 4* and really speccing into def is sacrificing a decent amount of damage for literally no gain.

Veats are about as complicated, they have a lot of moving parts, sure no shapeshifting but you can’t just walk into a good VEAT build. They may appear straightforward but they most certainly arent if you’re wanting something really sturdy/well rounded

Why is this never said to people trolling threads? Legit question. I get it in this instance but I’m asking for all those very interesting suggestion threads that got trolled by the very people thumbing up your comment, you never told them to shut it when they were being legit trolls so I want to know, why? Best Value: Lies of P & Black Myth Wukong. Both games are absolute bangers. Im in NG+ for both and I’d easily recommend it to anyone looking for some challenging yet fun gameplay. One IS a soulslike though and the other is similar to ninja gaiden in terms of difficulty so YMMV if you like that sorta thing. Storytelling in both is easily top tier for sure.

Soothing is your cookie cutter heal. Shoal is the obvious skip, and everything else is a must have. If you wanna take shoal thats fine, but in endgame its not doing anything. But I guess in something like CoH that doesn’t really matter much

Shifting on melee always. Less retoggling. Tide Pool then whitecap. If somehow the team hasn’t disintegrated everything by that point, brine the boss or EB/AV.

Skip Shoal Rush. It serves no purpose at 50 and has terrible proc rate. Everything else is a must have

If anything I think I was agreeing with you? **As an aside, I want to add this tidbit in for new folks. And this may sound harsh, I’m truly not trying to be that but I am blunt. The best builders are on the discord. Some will drop their builds on the forums later but a lot of builds and building is done on the discord. The order of build quality and advice goes: Discord>>>Forums>General/Help Chat. A helpful tip? Treat getting a build like looking at cars. If someone comes up to you and gives you a diatribe about how amazing car A is, odds are they are lying and trying to make a sell. No sales here obviously, and less lying, but you should be skeptical like in a car sale or what have you. If someone gives you what sounds like a used car salesman pitch about how great their build is and they don’t have video proof to back it or it reads like an aforementioned sales pitch? Be wary. A lot of builds work in 99.9% of content so its not like they’re trying to mislead you(usually). Just be mindful and very clearly state what you’re looking for in a build and for what content(this is very important)

This is why I also urge people away from getting advice from gen chat or help or even these very forums in general. This answer is too often given with no followup and/or build with at least some justification behind their choices and beliefs about performance.

I share your sentiments in this. I usually go with the answer I gave in this thread, except substitute in whatever it is they're doing. If you want me to give a truthful blunt answer to the best of my knowledge I can and will do so. If OP asked if they'd be viable in say HM 4, or even say 3, I would say no. They'd be a carry spot but not exactly a hindrance except in 4* and even then ehhh with enough Cold doms and natures anything is possible. But I never like to go with "play whatever you want" unless they lead me to believe they are solely playing only in the kitty pool(i.e. the majority of CoH content). That's not to say that HM is some elite hard sweatfest, OP. Don't want you getting scared off it. It's really not approaching anything resembling difficulty.

If you were doing HM or going for +4x8 I would say yes there are objective high and low performers. But you’re not, so while yes your set is the worst melee set in the game, it still slaps around baseline goons so have fun!

Thats actually a good thing sort of. Mino scaling w/league size means if they don’t like the version present it should in theory be easier as people leave and a few stick around to smack em up. Less shifts needed, faster time for mino to be downed, meaning there’s a higher chance for the one you DO want. I kinda see it as a win-win

Join the discord ASAP. it has all the modern tips on builds, content, generally useful info. Treat the forums like a small run down town; stick to the only need-to-know’s(modern guides on making $ or some such thats generally pretty solid for today’s CoH.) and pass through as quickly as possible(try and focus your efforts on the discord over getting involved with the forums crowd. Not saying all are bad or even most are, just see my earlier comment about modern info surrounding the game.) I would recommend a playthrough of the content for your first 50, instead of PLing, but its definitely your choice. And always fact check any advice you get on Help channel in game with the discord community.

Haven’t seen anyone not care about lore. But I have seen people who don’t understand it posting about it constantly on the forums and claiming to be an aficionado on it when they haven’t even so much as read a single document surrounding it. And people naturally don’t like that.
