This game is not as new player friendly as many of us think it is
Seed22 replied to FFFF's topic in General Discussion
To be fair after reading all of the posts over the years I feel like my IQ has dropped when it comes to this game. I blame the forums! -
50s are protected so if they’re 50 this accomplished nothing but yeah sure, doesn’t affect me 😀

Returning Player ONE question... End Game the same or expanded?
Seed22 replied to Yipp's topic in General Discussion
Im gonna assume you were around during 2019 with HC since you mentioned a few years ago. The only endgame addition that happened is Hard Mode TFs, of which there are 2. Thats it. There’s more on the way(HM TFs) but thats all -
I mean basic attacks aren’t doing THAT much for you mezzed unless you’re playing on -1x8, which I mean, if you are more power to you I guess. *Before they kill you or the group kills you, I should say

This game is not as new player friendly as many of us think it is
Seed22 replied to FFFF's topic in General Discussion
This is good information, because this is directly from a new player’s perspective. No matter what you all think of how the player fell into this or that trap or did this or that wrong, even if I agree with you generally, this is the new player experience. It may sting but hey thats reality for ya. Coh will struggle to attract a large amount of new players long term for these and a few other reasons outside of the game’s control. I still think its a decently new player friendly MMO, but I guess the new player themselves think otherwise and in this instance as much as it hurts, given they are the new player, I will have to default to their perception -
Would you settle for a close, but not exact name?
Seed22 replied to FFFF's topic in General Discussion
I wouldnt do it personally. Just easier to come up with a new name. But I don’t judge those who do, I’ve teamed with players who have leet speak who play better than those with extravagant names -
I still always recommend this AT for new players as it gives you some melee, ranged, armor and light CC. Basically exposure to most of the game’s mechanics with relative safety. I then immediately recommend they build a sturdy blaster and enjoy insane damage for minimal tradeoff

I ahould say im only speaking on level 50 content. Pre 50 moving as a group is not only smart but literally necessary! Think I’m becoming out of touch with the average leveler due to my experiences so wanted to clarify that bit haha. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the slow and steady approach. Believe it or not despite what I said earlier im a huge fan of Kill most TFs over speed for exactly that reason. Its just I dont want something other than a kill most taking longer than necessary. Most normal people have a life and time commitments I like to respect so i let people do their thing as efficiently as possible when I lead, and I dont want to force anyone to move together if they can reliably solo things on their own. Basically my team is unless you’re new or have a squishy build, you don’t have to move as a group. -

Very typical of you Zee. Just like in CO. Anyway, to me, teamwork is playing to your strengths. If that means a few are able to peel off and reasonably handle themselves on their own, I let em. Now, if they endanger the rest of the team we have a problem. I mean, I figured you'd grasp that but then again it's you I'm talking about so I figured this would be the case. -

I see the reason for teaming as getting the task done as fast as possible. If that means moving as a group(HM content) then so be it, but im not about to sit here and pretend thats a faster way than allowing those who clear pretty efficiently to do their thing instead of being shackled to the team because of arbitrary notions of teamwork. My teams do this and surprise surprise they get the job done in record time. But I wanna say, different strokes for different folks. If you think moving as a herd is faster, do it. -

Also be sure to learn the game mechanics and develop your own playstyle even outside of AE. There have been so many times I've teamed with individuals who are extremely daft who have never touched AE but instead learned bad habits or tried to adopt another player's playstyle for themselves. But yes, avoid AE until you've leveled naturally first. -
My favorite homage I have is Iron Apostle, who is meant to be a homage to Invincible from well..Invincible. She’s got a totally different story and costume(in fact, she’s only an homage insofar as having a cobbled together starter costume, invulnerability and super strength, and having to fight to get stronger instead of just being like superman.) Another lovable homage I have is Doomsinger Warlock who is basically a love letter to Dresden files and John Constantine. Once again, completely different story and costume but loved the spirit of both works and tried to capture that in him. Homages are wonderful fun if done from the viewpoint of not wanting a direct clone

So you think people should waste time traveling as a herd when you can expedite things by moving at least a group ahead? Never understood this mentality. Why do we all need to move as a herd? That is an objective waste of time if a few people on the team can effortlessly handle groups of enemies -
Thats what I did immediately. Got me a Stone/Regen scrapper in 2 hours to 50

Rikti Invasions & Shard-Specific XP Boosts! (Update: Jan 16th)
Seed22 replied to Widower's topic in Announcements
Makes sense. I was wondering what the deal was. Was able to PL a Stone/Regen scrapper to 50 in 2 hours on Torch. Will probably come back for some rikti action to get elusive mind -
I have 98(?) 50s. Im at the point where I’m done with alts and entering my retirement years with CoH(making AE arcs and running TFs with family who play still.) I say just get your cash cow 50 and get some merits to fund your alts and ride the wave. You will eventually run out of steam and stop making alts or nearly as many alts and become like me, a retired(in CoH) hermit who makes AE arcs and bets on what the next page of updates will be.

Very good questions.

Ehh not really. Holiday season usually means less traffic, plus people take breaks. Coh is in an alright spot. Now when that proc nerf hits though…jk it’ll probably be fine then too

Usually in a gaming chair. Gotta keep the buns comfy lol. I’ve got a nice desk, but plan to upgrade soon for an even better one. TV is on in the background on YouTube usually. Speakers are on too for glowies and the occasional zone music that I enjoy. Sometimes the fam plays CoH with me, other times alone. All 3 of us only play for short burst unlike in the early days where we’d play for hours. Game session can vary. Sometimes its as little as 5 minutes(get bored on an alt and just log out) to as long as 4 hours(A string of TFs, or back when they were new, a HM TF)

I know it sounds all doomy and gloomy but I promise its not 😂. I guess it was more me venting than anything else and speaking my mind. The issue I think is this was technically my first real game that I was invested in(played since I was a kid) and I just kinda got to a point where its all just rote memory. Plus I’ve been seeing a LOT of heinously stupid post from forum regulars hence my lashing out. (And while I do still dislike the forum community I still love the in game community which makes up a majority of the game). I’m taking a much needed break from CoH, so maybe in hopefully 6 or so months I’ll have a fresher look on the game(and maybe the next page will be out by then :P) And to scarlett, my thanks to the internet peanut gallery :P. But seriously got a great network of IRL friends. Not that you’d know or care, but I’m actually very happy IRL. I just react badly to what I perceive as dumbass responses. I saw your reply, thought you were suggesting to remove XP boosters, and chalked it up to another dumbass response from the idiotic side of the forum community. I see thats not the case, so I owe you an apology. Be well !

Every time I see post like this it makes me hate the CoH forum community more than I already do, and that's saying something. In any case OP, just avoid using the boost, it's fairly easy to avoid. At 50 the INF starts rolling in, but before hand you're not missing much. Personally, if the XP boost weren't here I wouldn't play CoH period. The game is boring as hell pre 50 and the gameplay loop is shit without all your powers. This is coming from an i6 vet, the game's nice and all but it ain't good enough to where I wanna do the original grind 98 times(as many 50s as I have farmed).

I get what you're saying, but to rebuttle, relentless isn't all that difficult, just....tedious. So very very tedious. At least Aeon makes it kinda worth your while by giving 10 extra PAPs for the AV fight. I think HM overall is a big failure and waste of resources that could of been spent elsewhere, but that's a rant for a whole 'nother thread. And just using the smallest amount of common sense, two TFs aren't going to satisfy people for long.

Pretty much hit all the big ones during my time out: WoW: Got me a lvl 75 or so druid. Very fun and pretty decent at PvP on that toon. Then came back again in WoD(hated it) and got a priest to the late 60s before quitting SWTOR: Made an inquisitor and a counselor. It was okay, except for the whole nickle and dime thing they did with power trays. CO: Ended up here the longest. Got a lifetime sub and honestly didn't hate the experience completely. Very holy trinity garbage and constant nerfs later on though. Kinda makes me paranoid when I see lots of nerfs lobbied for here, as well as my fear initially for HM being holy trinity WoW experience(it's mostly just a zerg with 7 corrs and a scrapper/tank, so not sure if that's better really) Honestly, as controversial as it may be to say, I enjoyed my time away from CoH. It provided me with a lot of time to reflect, and forced me out of my socially awkward phase of my life. The best thing to ever happen to CoH was the shutdown, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Homages have always been allowed. Problem with CoH players is that a lot take homage to mean direct copy, so they get rightfully genericed to the point where I think it would be beneficial for someone to pin a message with the literal dictionary definition of what homage means.
