  1. I prefer the discord. Its where the best players in the game are readily available to provide accurate info that the forums has missed in the past, and provides bleeding edge info in real time as opposed to over several weeks
  2. What servers are you all playing on that this happens so much? Sounds like Everlasting but I could be wrong. I don’t encounter leechers thankfully, but I also as of late don’t team much anymore when I do log on, so maybe its a bigger issue? But everyone’s coming up with highly contrived solutions to a problem that already has a solution, well two I guess if you go Shin’s route. Warn them, they get uppity then kick em. Life’s too short to deal with shit like this
  3. No you haven’t
  4. Hey look! One of em took the bait. But seriously, a PSA for everyone out there: for YOU it may be about the journey, and that’s awesome! But remember, this isn’t a terribly active MMO developmentally speaking. The beginning that you keep praising? 20 years old at this point. There aren’t that many new players I imagine who will look at it and go “oh boy this is great!” No, they’ll see how old and clunky and boring it is and either PL to 50 and run endgame/maybe some older stuff exemping, or quit.
  5. You have got to be joking right. Please tell me you’re joking.
  6. No its not. I and many others find it pretty fun. Definitely not possible with every toon and probably not as fun with maybe certain builds but overall its pretty neat.
  7. No need, really. The farmers all know the nerfs to AE are the last that’ll come because they actually talk to the devs(I’m one of them that does) They’re not nerfing it further, so the farming BAD crowd are simply screaming at clouds. Why would farmers waste their time arguing with these people? The nerfs are done, and AE farming is at it will be for the forseeable future.
  8. Always always ALWAYS make sure before joining an ITF that it’s a Kill Most(KM) +4x8 with a 50 in charge. Thats where the levels come in. Later when your 50 4* KM ITF gets a nice chunk of Inf, but most would rather speed those.
  9. I get physically ill just thinking about playing on SOs and making a leveling build. Jokes aside, I make a build in mids chasing what I want then proceed to build it. I tried playing on SOs, got to about lvl 12. Couldn’t hack it and PL’ed the toon to 50 to get IOed out. Once you’ve gone and tanked ludicrous stuff with an IO’ed 50 its very hard to play…*shudders and points to SOs in disgust* that
  10. Funny you mention this. I actually played the game normally from 1-50 on my primary account and got several 50s this way. One time was so shit and exhausting I took a sabbatical from CoH for 3-4 months. Playing normally is exhausting, and the only reason I still even make alts/play now is because of PL’ing. Ironic ain’t it?
  11. The leveling experience is terrible. The game’s age really shows and its missions are absolute trash and thats putting it nicely. It is the worst leveling experience I have EVER experienced in any game I have ever played, and that’s including day 1 Diablo 4. But when you don’t play anything but CoH and or are blinded by nostalgia and a strange almost borderline sycophantic loyalty to either the ways of old or the game itself you get purist telling you “yOuR pLaYiNg wRoNg” when you want to skip the tedium. Edit: And another thing, I PL because I don’t always have a consistent schedule for gaming. There have been times where I have disappeared for weeks to at most a couple of months at a time for RL reasons from the game. PL’ing helps me stay engaged with the game. If I had to level every toon “the right way” every time I wouldn’t play at all. Potentially having to take 6 months to a year to get a 50 versus pumping one out in a 4 hour session on a Saturday.
  12. Hm. Well actually after reading what you put I’d like to point something out that’s always vexxed with your camp. You people who “play the game the right way” are farming, when you get to 35 and repeat the ITF 5 times on Kill Most thats a farm, when you make an alt and repeat the same 6 TFs on blueside thats a farm. And another interesting thing, for all your grand standing about how great the content is, a lot of you “purist” won’t touch red or goldside content. I’m going to ask that you purist enjoy the game your way and understand others enjoy the game(vet farmers specifically not noob players) their way. I have my tinfoil hat theory as to why you all cant do that though but its very condescending and mean so I won’t elaborate
  13. The thing is, for SOME it was the journey. While sure there never really is much to post 50 content, I know that even back in ‘06-‘07, playing my redside stalker in a duo, I wanted to see whats at the end of the tunnel more than focusing on the road to get there. There were some fun arcs of course, but I always liked having a fully slotted 50 to go back and exempt through content with or really back then just stay and play at 50. I get the whole liking the journey thing though, and respect it.
  14. Look I get it, they may be playing the way they think is optimal, but to them playing optimally or rushing to 50 as crazy as it may sound COULD be how they want to play it. We’ll never be sure until they themselves come in here and say, “Hey guys, I actually feel like I wanted to level normally but felt pressured to get to 50 quickly”. I’m not even advocating for new players to be farmed first. I think they should play normally for the first time and experience the game as it’ll be all new to them. But I also don’t like assuming what’s fun or enjoyable to a player. Some people may like the trad leveling experience, others will look at it like I do; a mediocre slog on its’ BEST day. I would hate for the player in question to feel pressured to PL as thats only imo something vets do when they can’t be assed to waste their valuable time repeating the pain of leveling(personal bias here)
  15. I agree. Sometimes people forget its not about “being right” and being right in CoH can sometimes be subjective(unless you’re talking about what a power actually does). My right could be your wrong and vice versa. I myself am very guilty of being deadset on my way being the best way, but as time goes on and I start to realize my way isn’t what’s meta always let alone the best, I stopped being so pushy about it. Now I lead with things like, “Well I build my toons to solo +1x8. They could do up to +4 if I did XYZ but I personally don’t like that. If you want to be top tier meta talk to A and B person” instead of going on a diatribe about how it’s my way or the highway. I’m not perfect at this and slip up a good number of times but I’m getting there. Plus I’m honestly getting kinda tired of CoH a bit so thats been helping to taper me down quite a bit
  16. *Ahem* After my initial bout of trolling because why not, I have I think an answer for you. You won’t like it, hell people who agree with you will downright HATE it. But nobody’s failed anyone. This person is playing the game the way they like. Also lmao if you think they’re going to listen to some random dude to stop offering PL’s. Lmao
  17. I disagree on this being the best community of all gaming communities. There’s nothing really too special with this one in my opinion to make it the best. Being cordial for simple interactions isn’t THAT rare as people here will make it out to be in other communities. Plenty are civil. I base my assessment off of how people’s opinions have been met on these forums(not very civil in a lot of instances) and of course the favorite thing that CoH players love to pretend doesn’t exist; General Chat. Yeah. For “some bad apples” it sure seems EXTREMELY common and consistently toxic and vitriolic. Especially on Everlasting, I’ve experienced quite a bit of regular toxicity. *That doesn’t mean I think EVERY single person on CoH is toxic and terrible. I’m simply stating that it comes across as haughty and delusional in my eyes to claim the community is so much better and above alternatives when its really not. Its at least to me similar to other communities; you have your helpful bunch, and vitriolic toxic cesspool like everyone else. A funny thing is we have reverse toxicity in the form of casuals having been toxic to minmaxers about builds and being called “elitist” for wanting to make the best toon possible(I have literally seen this multiple times over the years). So yeah. I may have been hyperbolic about saying the community is worse than WoW. Its just a different version of WoW is what I should have said
  18. Im 27. This post made me feel like I was 62 because I couldn’t see a damn thing.
  19. The fact that people, especially in this thread, don’t understand that provesa point I’ve been making for awhile now; This community is actually WORSE than WoW, or at least equally as bad. Well, the forums community is for sure. I’ll get downvoted but I really don’t care. I see a shovel I call it a shovel. 🤷🏾‍♂️
  20. And thats certainly a valid way to go about it. I like to avoid glass cannons as they get kinda one dimensional, as all they offer is just max damage which to me gets kinda old fast. Of course I totally get how face tanking things gets old too. I just always find it funny when we don’t have a tank and my blaster’s dodging alphas and nuking mobs at the same time, or tanking an AV with melee radial(which I’ve done on my Ice/Fire. Super hilarious) For my glass cannon builds that ARE super fun though? They’re doms. Its just so fun to lean into CC/Damage and tank via hard CC for a team.
  21. Skill issue. Its not meta, but if you’re solo or mostly solo, build for at least 45% def. You wont do as much as a purely offensive blaster, but you WILL be far sturdier. My blaster has tanked a +2 Reichsman over TWO brutes following this method and pumping good numbers because blaster modifiers.
  22. Hey this happened with my Fire/Atomic back in the day! I even got 2 people to quit the team and my own family who I play with asked me to stop killing so fast because it was starting to piss off the other team members and they were worried they’d all quit.* Fire sure is fun huh My own fire*3 is built for 4 Star damage so..I mean…imagine the fire atomic but well..more. Its modeled after the best players in the game’s fire blasters but it falls short as I made my own tweaks and need to respec it. Still does great though. Thats the beauty of Fire*3. It can be made to feel powerful even with odd building. *This is not to sidebar the thread or toot my own horn. I was thinking I was being helpful in teams by doing this and thus making the mishs faster but now that I look at it I may have been playing like those asshat tanks minus the tank role. Sure I was killing pretty quickly and holding my own for the most part, but I was making the experience worse for everyone else. Which is why now I try and make absolutely sure everyone is doing alright and only then after a few groups do I go slightly ahead of the team. I never go ahead on my tanks because your whole job is to…well, TANK.
  23. Im certain they’re sticking to their guns. *I don’t team with too many emps nowadays, and the last one I did team with was excellent. I have an emp myself, and I play it exceedingly well. But I’m an emp vet, having one preshutdown way back before inherent stamina and being sought after on virtue for being a solid emp. But I also understand a lot of “vet” emps ignore buffs and or only focus them on tanks. I have been on several teams in the past AND preshutdown where this is the case. I’m not foolish enough to give the benefit of the doubt to a PuG emp nowadays. I usually err on the side of caution and share Shin’s trepidations *I hate hate HATE tooting my own horn about skill in a game like this where its literally weenie hut juniors. I’m not even trying to say I’m the best emp ever, I’m just saying I utilized all my buffs and kept fortitude on 7 teammates, and AB on the ones with end issues or whoever was contributing max DPS. I consider that “playing exceedingly well” and view it as something insanely easy to do for literally anyone
  24. I didnt even know it was in it, I certainly didnt read the damn thing haha. But then again, I view copying existing characters to a T instead of making a homage based off of the tropes and personality they portray as tantamount to creative bankruptcy. Not enough to waste my time reporting every single one but you get my point. I’m really surprised its not highlighted already. I mean, this IS a superhero MMO with a robust creator. That should be near the top of the list of things to pin, so to speak
  25. Im sure you are. I don’t claim to know copyright law, certainly not as well as members of my family who ARE lawyers. Like I said, I work in supply chain, specifically as an Inventory Specialist and prior Traffic Flow Analyst. You do NOT want to ask me about legal matters lol. But what I do know is if that part of the CoC highlighted info about copyright infringement characters that’d be great. I don’t know what any of you do, for all I know you could very well be lying about working in a law firm, or better yet, you could just be some little assistant to the ACTUAL lawyer in the firm, again I dunno. Hell you could doubt me too. Alas, thats the fun of the internet. *And, assuming you’re not lying, I shouldn’t need to say that there are MANY many many subsets of well…lawyer. Civil law, environmental law, corporate lawyer, criminal…you get it. One may know more about something like copyright than another.
