  1. For clarity sake, the reference to Somerset is a reference to the cause of the war for American independence wherein a Virginia slave owner tried to use the British government to enforce his rights of ownership. This, followed by a decrease in tea tariffs to curtail smuggling were the primary causes of that war. @Chris24601 the definition you offer for moral relativism does not differ from mine, I simply accept that morality is an unethical conceptualization of right and wrong determined by the culture you group in. Also, legalism is a specific ethical theory and is not mainstream in ethical thought. Your concept of ethics v morality seems to be a difference in attribution rather than a substantive difference. Either that or you are considering morality as a either a generic or god-bestowed trait that exists a priori. Either way, you seem to be saying that morality is the internalized system for judging right and wrong based on the external cultural context whereas ethics is the externalized system for judging right and wrong based on the external cultural context. Both systems seem to fall into the trap of moral relativism. It is not a matter of linguistic drift, it is perhaps that I have studied the differences between morality and ethics more. Again, the definitions commonly used for the two terms are: morality is a set of internalized ideas of right and wrong developed during early adolescence based on social context ethics is a determination of right and wrong based on rational principles So if you get that ick feeling in your stomach, that is morality. If you think about a situation, that is ethics. Almost what I am saying. I am saying that because Cap is moral and not ethical, he would be a different character if he were developed in a different social system. If he were an ethical character, he would not change. Case in point: Marcus Cole. Statesman - Reichsman - Tyrant... All these are substantively the same highly moral character. The only difference is the cultural context they grew up in. If Marcus Cole had been ethical rather than moral, he wouldn't be a villain two thirds of the time...
  2. Currently, Warshades gain more from the ability to shift forms instantaneously, double mire? On the other hand, PBs gain a sufficient amount that forcing form specialization would be a huge nerf. That being said, human-form could use some buffing in terms of Damage, -Def resistance, Control, and Support. Minor changes such as bumping Pulsar to Mag 3 and making Glowing Touch a TAoE could go a long way.
  3. Morality is an internalized sense of right or wrong imbued by societal norms in one's youth. Ethics is the rational deduction of right or wrong determined through rational principles. Moral relativism is a clear example of this distinction, moral relativism is the relegation of ethical behavior as being determined by morality. It is also the excuse used for all manner of assault on civil liberties of minorities. Something being lawful or unlawful is related to the ethical theory of legalism, which is a fairly flawed system - but not as flawed as morality / moral relativism. Therefore, you can see that returning slaves based on either legalism or morality would be the "right" thing to do, but it is completely unethical. It is morally right, because someone from that period would have grown up with beliefs of that social order. This means that they would feel a moral obligation to return runaway slaves. It is only through ethical consideration that one can break down the traps of morality and law to find the actual right thing to do. Superman, because of the time he was developed, would help the runaway slaves. However, a Superman or Captain America (remember, the United States of America became a country after fighting a war against the UK following the Somerset decision) had they been developed in the period of slavery would have felt a moral obligation to protect the rights of the slave owners. That is why morality is unethical.
  4. Actually the radio version of Superman was probably the best... That being said, I find all versions suffer from placing morality above ethics... that being said, at least the radio version wasn't daft...
  5. I actually started watching after she was caught for that. So from season 1 I was like, damn your best friend is a sex cult leader and your mom played the same character as your love interest? Damn this is twisted.
  6. The two problems I have with Superman and Captain America are that they are vanilla / nigh flat characters and that they aren't ethical. Moral as fuck, but their morals aren't based on ethical principles. They are based on a very specific moral framework that they fail to question. The lack of intellect in these characters make them seem more like daft moralistic sociopaths than heroes, in that way they are worse than Batman, because at least he considers his decisions occasionally. Actually, for the first five seasons of Smallville, I was struck by how similar the characters of Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne were. Of course Lex Luthor is more intelligent and ethical, while being less violent, than Bruce Wayne in the first 4-5 seasons of Smallville, but definitely the only reason that series was worth watching. The latter seasons of that series were much more difficult to get through, especially when Chloe became less and less present. Steel was my favorite as well. That being said, the Eradicator's background and story arc are extremely interesting, and he tended to be more rational and interesting than Superman. The Cyborg Superman (made a villain because the robot/cyborg is almost by default going to be made a villain in American fiction, and DC has a tendency to villainize intelligent people as well...) had an interesting story arc, but the villain "twist" seemed unearned and unrealistic. He has become an interesting villain, but his short tenure as hero was interesting as well. Superboy, my least favorite of the four, seemed to be a reboot for younger audiences that was slightly more interesting than Superman, but only slightly.
  7. The Statesman was the most annoying character, which is why he looks like the illegitimate love child of the most annoying DC hero (Superman) and the most annoying Marvel hero (Captain America)... That being said, I would be fine with bringing him back. Either that or, when there is more time/resources, doing what they did after Superman died and introducing four much more interesting characters in Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy, and Eradicator... okay, Superboy was kinda lame, but the other three were cool. A spin-off storyline with five alt-Statesmen (one for each origin) with the winner getting placed in charge of the Statesman TF, and a runner-up being placed in charge of Fort Trident. I know, pie-in-the-sky thinking, but just a thought: Magic: Raguel, Angel of Justice - Energy Blast / Invulnerability Sentinel Mutant: Helix - Radiation Melee / Bio Armor Brute Natural: Justice, Long Arm of the Law - Street Justice / Willpower Scrapper Science: Statesboy (clone of Marcus Cole) - Invulnerability / Super Strength Tank Technology: Phalanx, Line in the Sand - Gravity Control / Martial Assault Dominator This is just a quick concept, thoughts?
  8. An area where Peacebringers need a little help is in the solo game. As a team member, they get a lot of benefits that are always team appropriate. That being said, I enjoy playing through some story arcs solo. That means that while I am playing the PB story arc, I am extremely vulnerable to the random quantum gunner, while also being underwhelming in damage. Their inherent is designed for teaming, but that means that they are much more difficult to play solo. They are so much fun to play solo, but they would be more fun if they were better balanced while solo.
  9. Fine as they are: Alpha: This is the plug the hole in my build go-to power. Judgement: An extra alpha attack, nice, but not overpowering. Interface: A passive proc that can either fill a gap or lean into your character's strengths. Hybrid: A toggle that can fill a gap or lean into your character's strengths. Need a rework: Lore: An OP pet that makes most toons into Masterminds. Needs more choices, better balancing of choices, and an overall nerf. Destiny: An OP click buff that becomes pointless after 30s; like Armor T9s, this leads to an inconsistent playing experience and could be done better. ie, decreasing the initial buff but making it meaningful for the entire 120s.
  10. I disagree, because where there's a whip there's a way...
  11. My main from live and HC is Ill/Storm, and I love the combo. There are some people of lower intelligence that may not let you on their team with storm though.... --the KB averse--
  12. I actually put together a work-up for this last July... Infernal Assault (19.07.09.14.23.01): Whips and hell unleashed.
  13. For a well-thought-out and collaborative post on a TP Power Pool rework, the thread overall is pretty good, but that one post basically sums up the best ideas from thread...
  14. I just thought I'd start off with my favorite binds and see what everyone else has... /bind lshift+esc "quittocharacterselect" /bind q+esc "quit" /bind ctrl+q "teamquitinternal" /bind ctrl+a "ah$$windowtoggle salvage$$windowtoggle recipe" /bind lshift+lbutton powexecname teleport /bind lshift+rbutton "powexecname recall friend$$powexecname teleport foe" (Tested the last one, it does not work. Looking for a workaround, but it may not be possible).
  15. Just to interject, it sounds a lot like: The Duo (19.06.07.16.09.36) Assault/{Pet/Armor/Support} Partnership: +DMG +ToHit in proximity to pet. Share power effects with pet. The Duo is an AT that is focused on working strongly with a single pet partner and balancing the burden with them. Which has already been developed and somewhat tested by @malonkey1 The duo was actually the winner of a contest I ran to determine the most popular Archetype proposal...
  16. I was thinking about the confront/taunt quandary. Perchance one could change it to a PBAoE placate with a Mez protection buff. That gives you the aggro control you will need, as well as the very useful mez protections.
  17. I really need to update my proposals compilation threads. I've been too overwhelmed with work to do anything with them. I actually plan to do a much larger compilation compilation project, but that will take some time to set up. That being said, while I am not opposed to a support/melee or melee/support AT, I still think that Assault and Manipulation set ATs should take precedent.
  18. So maybe a click power that summons a floating platform that offers +Stealth and +Dmg when on it, disperses when attacked? I know, but that is a power of fairly limited availability. The proposal would offer that functionality to any player...
  19. Are you thinking invis numbers on camo? Otherwise it seems not so good. Also, the damage from stealth buff may be crossing into stalker territory. My suggestion would be to give it half the stealth of stealth, but only 25% defense suppression rather than 50%.
  20. Thanks, I just hunted down that link and was about to post it. When I wrote the quoted thread it had recently been released, so nobody needed the reference.
  21. Sorry, I made a mistake when I crafted my post, is updated now.
  22. Blackwand and Nemesis Staff use the same animation.
  23. What I think would be best would be: T1: Lvl 14 no Pre-req T2: Lvl 14 no Pre-req T3: Lvl 22 one Pre-req T4: Lvl 22 one Pre-req T5: Lvl 30 two Pre-req Arachnos pets are locked unless the Patron Arc is completed. I know, I've lowered the levels from my previous suggestion, but I think this is fair and would allow accessibility at reasonable level ranges. An example build (just for fun): Hero Plan by Mids' Reborn : Hero Designer 2.6.0.7 https://github.com/ImaginaryDevelopment/imaginary-hero-designer Click this DataLink to open the build! 24. A couple of things. First, I never said that it would have widespread implications, in fact I was saying that because the only effect would be a minor effect on a limited number of builds that it wouldn't cause significant power creep (it is currently impossible to get the Secondary T8, T9, and all five EPP powers). Second, I think that allowing the EPP early would be an easier move than formulating new power pools. It would be AT targeted, thus easier to balance. And the powers are already available and designed.
  25. The lateness of Epics mean that if you take a significant number of EPP powers you have extremely limiting slotting choices for lvl 47 49 powers. Furthermore, taking the T9 secondary power limits EPP power choices even more.
