Windows has gotten a lot better at picking the correct drivers, but yes it's always a good idea to get drivers from the source, not Microsoft. Laptops make it even more complicated, because often the drivers you get from AMD or Nvidia will break some functionality on a laptop. So for laptops your best bet is to get drivers from the laptop manufacturer rather than AMD or Nvidia. They may not have the most up-to-date drivers compared to what you could get from AMD or Nvidia, but drivers from the laptop manufacturer are what you should use to reduce the risk of something not working right.

That is says "Microsoft Display Driver" means your laptop is defaulting to a basic driver, not an AMD or Nvidia driver, which is why you're getting the error. I would enable the internal AMD video adapter and ensure you have the most recent drivers installed.

Here's the bind file I use. Use the /loadbindfile command to activate it. The list of attributes you can use is here: https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Monitorattribute_(Slash_Command) If you already have the window active you need to stop displaying it before using the bind. I couldn't find a text command to do that, so you'll have to do it manually. combatmonitor.txt

As others have stated, this is the point of resistances, defense, controls, and debuffs -- to reduce incoming damage to manageable levels. Not all characters are going to have an easy time soloing due to a lack of damage mitigation. It's just how it goes sometimes. It doesn't mean anything is broken or needs to be fixed.

What is Meant by "Weak" or "Underperforming" Powersets?
Captain Fabulous replied to Waljoricar's topic in General Discussion
If a set is fun to play I don't care so much if it's "underperforming" or not. For me it only becomes an issue when soloing, which I rarely do. The only exception to this is Regen. That one just sucks no matter what you're doing. -
It's definitely a connection issue. If you're using Wi-Fi try using Ethernet instead, plugging directly into your modem, see if that makes a difference. Another thing you can try is using the Reunion server, as it's located in Germany instead of Canada. It's entirely possible there's a network issue between you and the servers, something you really can't do anything about. Did your ISP do any testing in your home at the modem? Sometimes things like bad coax cables and/or splitters can cause connection issues. If you haven't had them inside I would request that and have them test the signal strength and quality at the modem, not just at the outside box or pole. It could also be a bad modem or router, see if you can have them replaced.

I wrote a bind file to do this. It works great.

Endurance reduction is a divisive calculation. 49.6 is the amount of the boost, which works like endurance reduction enhancements. When you do the math, a 49.6% endurance reduction enhancement results in endurance costs being reduced by 33.15%. Modified endurance cost = unmodified endurance cost / 1 + (endurance reduction / 100) So if a power has an end cost of 100 you get 100 / 1.496 = 66.84 100 - 66.84 = 33.15 And that's where the 33.15% discount comes from.

Invul. Willpower is a bit lackluster in comparison.

XP and INF mostly. But just because bosses give more XP and INF doesn't necessarily mean they're worth fighting. If it takes you a really long time to kill one versus an LT your XP and INF generation can actually go down. Not to mention making the game feel like a slog.

I'm all for expanding visual options, this way people can look however they want. You want to look normal? Cool. You want to look like a space squid and lobster? Cool. You want some hybrid look? Still cool. Options are good, and having more options hurts no one.

Hyper-V only supports OpenGL 1.1, and IIRC CoH uses 2.1. Unfortunately I'm the wrong one to ask. I suspect you'd run into the same issue, not being able to find a wrapper that supports OpenGL 2.1. Maybe Mesa? 🤷♂️ Tho my understanding is Nvidia may at some point offer this support natively.
-
It was something the devs were going to use with Liquid Nitrogen in the new Arsenal Control set, but that functionality was removed. So for now it doesn't do anything.
-
Right, it only works with DirectX 9 games. Tho I guess it could theoretically be possible to use it with an OpenGL to DirectX 9 wrapper, tho I can't imagine such a set up would run well.

NPC ally is attacking when Tide pool is cast
Captain Fabulous replied to Ridiculous Girl's topic in Bug Reports
Perception and aggro work differently on MM pets and NPCs. IIRC, when the caster is not in combat mode and doesn't give the pets the command to attack MM pets set to aggressive will only attack when they are within the range of their powers. They won't run into range upon seeing critters until you tell them to, you or they are attacked, or you begin to attack. So giving them the ability to see critters at a further distance via Tide Pool won't cause them to run into range and attack because that's not something they do. But NPCs work differently. They will run into range and start attacking once they see a critter, which is why Tide Pool causes them to start attacking, because critters that were once out of their perception range now aren't. You can test this by casting Tide Pool around a corner, where line of sight for the NPC is broken. The NPC won't run around the corner and start attacking because even with the critters in Tide Pool the NPC can't see them. But if you were to cast a targeted power around a corner that puts you in combat mode, the NPC will then move into a line of sight position and begin attacking. It's not a bug, it's just how perception, pets, and NPCs work.- 17 replies

It's an issue not limited to Whitecap, it affects all targeted TP powers. Something about how the hitboxes don't give you a viable place to land so the power won't activate.

CoH uses OpenGL, and my understanding is that Hyper-V and OpenGL don't play nice together.

Put Mids build into the game?
Captain Fabulous replied to TheMoncrief's topic in Tools, Utilities & Downloads
Not sure what else to say other than to double, triple, and quadruple check before you click finish on the respec. If you're worried about alt-tabbing put the game in windowed mode. -

Looks like the just-released 24.7.1 driver fixes the OpenGL issue.
