NPC's Addressing Mastermind Pets instead of Mastermind
RikOz replied to DarkonCOH99's topic in Bug Reports
This kind of thing used to amuse me in WoW. Some mobs would call you by name while fighting you, but I always thought it was odd when I was on my hunter, and I would be at range but my pet would be directly attacking in melee, and so the mob would say my pet's name instead of mine. I'd be all, "wait, this random ogre in the middle of the jungle knows my dog's name?" -
Right now I have three level 50 characters: a fire/fire blaster, a DB/SR scrapper, and a MA/Nin scrapper. Now that all three of these have had a chance to face many of the same high-level elite bosses, it's become apparent that I need to do something about the fact that my martial artist really needs to have something going on besides smashing damage. What made this clear? Marauder and his massive +RES buff when he gets down to a certain amount of health. My fire/fire blaster handled him fine, though he was time-consuming. DB scrapper, likewise. My martial artist, however, finds herself completely stymied, which leads me to believe that Marauder's +RES is primarily resisting smashing damage. She's actually encountered him twice, most recently in one of Maria Jenkins missions. The first time was in a different arc, though I can't remember which one. In that case, I was complaining about him in chat and another player offered to come help me with their specially-designed boss-soloing alt, and I was able to complete the mission with that help. Alas, I would still like to be able to do it alone, but as things stand now, this character only does smashing damage and doesn't have any kind of debuff has only Force of Will to counter Marauder's buff. She can hit him, but the damage is reduced to useless levels. I suspect that, given enough time, she could wear him down, but she can't carry enough purples to keep her alive that long. At this point, I'm looking to respec her. The obvious thing would be to change her epic power pool choices. She currently has powers from the Body Mastery pool - the ones that increase her ToHit, and the two that affect her Endurance. What would be the recommended replacements? Flame Mastery? Energy Mastery? Something else? Would certain IO sets help me out here? I'll put together a Mids report if that would help with suggestions (any way to make Mids import a character file directly, instead of having to build it manualy?). This situation has made me aware that I should start taking this into account with my other alts that mostly do smashing damage. Right now, my next two closest-to-50 alts are a level 42 SS/Inv brute and a level 38 SS/Rad brute (yeah, both SS; it just worked out that way). But I'm also looking at sets like War Mace, Staff Fighting, and Street Justice, all of which I have at lower levels.

NPC's Addressing Mastermind Pets instead of Mastermind
RikOz replied to DarkonCOH99's topic in Bug Reports
It seems there are odd situations where mobs will get confused and address whichever model is closest to them. I've seen ally NPCs do this too - saying something that was clearly directed at me, but with the name of one of the enemy mobs in place of mine. -
It occurs to me that most of these gangs can't possibly have the number of members we beat up in-in game. After all they're not fantasy creatures that are constantly breeding more of themselves, they have to increase their numbers by recruiting new members. So it makes sense, logically, that we're frequently fighting the same nameless goons we've punched before. I think it would be a cool addition to the game to have random minions and lieutenants say things like, "Oh no, not <playername> again!" Or, "You won't get me this time, <playername>!" I like to imagine that this is what's going on with the trio of gray-conning Skulls that show up in one hero alignment mission, I think the "Break up the drug convention" one . You can hear one of the Skulls saying, "Oh man, <playername?> This is not good man! Not good!" From now on, this is going to be my head canon for explaining runners. Those are thugs who have run into you before, and they don't want a repeat performance.

My main villain, "Bruised Violet", uses the "Small Skull" belt, which is the same thing but with just the one skull in the buckle position. It's the one constant piece across all of her costumes. I actually like to do that with a lot of my characters. Their overall costumes may be quite different from one another, but will all include one particular piece - I guess it's kind of their "signature" item that unifies all of the costumes. My hero main, "Flaminatrix", also uses the same belt across costumes; I think it's called "Leather Ring", the plain leather belt with the metal bondage rings attached to it.

I have a character who does this. "Mother Sun" is Dr. Frances Solana, a scientist who developed a formula that, when imbibed, transforms the drinker and imbues them with superpowers. When Dr. Solana drinks she changes from a frumpy, middle-aged, 5-foot-2 woman: into an eight-foot solar power generating warrior (Rad/Fire sentinel): She now leads a super group called "Solar Angels", comprised of nine other carefully-selected women (the formula doesn't work for everybody) who represent nine planets (Pluto's representative is named "Notta Planet"). The formula has a similar growth effect on "Fille de Jupiter" (she's French), but has a shrinking effect on "Girl Mercury" and "Notta Planet". There are also two "auxiliary members", "Haley Komet" and "Lunagetic" who also benefit from the formula, but due to previous obligations are only available on an emergency basis.

In the redside alignment mission, "Mind Splitting Headache", the descriptive text before accepting the mission misspells Psimon Omega's name several times as "Psymon". The error is repeated throughout the text, through multiple screens, including the popup after completing and exiting the mission. (I only noticed this because I had just been doing Psimon Omega's missions.)

My virtual SG, "The Extracurriculars", is made up of former students of the Galaxy City International School for Superpowered Girls. The non-US members all have costumes designed around the colors of their national flags. It has representatives of Mexico, Brazil, England, Japan, Ukraine, Scotland, and Canada.

This morning, I came across this bit of silliness: So I just had to make this, a villain named "Orange Colored Sky": I do wish that hardhats, like you see on construction worker NPCs, were available. The girls in the video appear to be wearing jockey helmets, but a yellow hardhat would come close.

Whichever reward is correct is fine with me, I'd just like it to be stated correctly.

Upon meeting Ephram Sha for the first time in Dark Astoria, we get a dialog that explains repeatable missions and their rewards. As you can see in the yellow text at the bottom of this window, one of the reward choices is "five reward merits". Upon completing my first repeatable mission of the day from Ephram Sha, I was presented with the reward selection window, where you can see that I have selected "2x Reward Merits". Based upon the previous window, this would suggest that I am going to receive 10 Reward Merits. Included in the screenshot is my Salvage window, where you can see I have 40 Reward Merits before clicking the "Accept Reward" button. After clicking "Accept Reward", you can see in the next screenshot that I now have 42 Reward Merits, not 50: It seems I got 2 Reward Merits, not the 10 I would expect. I can also confirm that, after the first repeatable mission of the day, subsequent missions only give 1 Reward Merit. Either Ephram Sha's window description is incorrect, or the reward calculation is incorrect. I'll also note that the original description says that one of the options is "two incarnate threads", but the reward window offers ten. I can't confirm which of those is correct as I have never selected that option.

Nope. 10+ years of WoW made me long for more variety. As someone who didn't play tanks or healers, I was left with just one DPS spec available for some classes, so that meant that when I rolled multiple paladins, they were all going to be Retribution spec, and ultimately the same character with different faces. Even for classes with multiple DPS specs, that was still only 2-3 variations. So in CoX, I'm taking advantage of being able to create characters with so much variety. 92 alts so far, with only one duplicate (that didn't start out as a duplicate, but I'd rolled as a corruptor and the chosen powersets just weren't working for me, so I rerolled as a blaster and the only powersets that fit her concept were a combo I already had on another alt). I've actually created spreadsheets for blasters, scrappers, brutes, sentinels, and stalkers so that I can more easily keep track of which powerset combos I've already used, and I ultimately want to have one alt of every possible PS combo for each of those ATs.

Working with Mu'Vorkan in Dark Astoria, there's a bit in his story where he says that, if he can achieve a certain rank, he will be allowed to show his face. That implies to me that the Mu culture/philosophy includes completely submitting one's own will and identity to the Mu.

That irritates the crap out of me when it happens, though in my case it's usually that I wanted the +DAM buff from the T1, but that missed and T2 was already queued up so I get a healing buff I didn't need at all because I was at full health.

Yeah, I got really tired of Twinshot calling me "kiddo". Particularly when my character is middle-aged.

I'm going to need to find a guide on how attack roll calculations work in this game, because when I see something like this in the combat log: You had a 95% chance to hit Badguy, you rolled 96.74 ... it's hard to see why that was a "miss".

Harvey Maylor's arc, "Upon the Psychic Plane", speaking with Penelope Yin for the second time: In the first paragraph, I'm guessing that "elestial quartz" should be "celestial quartz".
-
Alas, I can't get it working. Checking the HeroStats thread, apparently the author hasn't been back on the forums in at least 4-5 months now, and people are saying it only works in Safe Mode.
-
Heh, yeah, I reported that one earlier in the thread 🙂

I'll give that a try. But when I say Ablating Strike hits with more consistency, it's because it's a component of all but one of my combos. If it was missing as frequently as Power Slice, I'd almost never get a successful combo off, but that isn't the case. I use Power Slice as my opening attack (on the 1 key), and after that it becomes "filler", i.e. an attack to stick in there while other attacks that contribute to combos are still recharging. That lets me maintain a steady attack rhythm without having to pause for recharges. As my opening attack, misses are painfully obvious, of course. Yesterday, while running an even-level mission and occasionally finding myself fighting 4-6 enemies at the same time, I watched, more than once, as Power Slice missed as the opening attack on 4 or 5 consecutive enemies. As you might imagine, that can get really annoying when I'm trying to interrupt a Sky Raider Engineer but he gets his FF up because I missed. Because of that, I've started just running up to enemies I need to interrupt and hitting them with Vengeful Slice first, instead. I have Power Slice on the 1 key because I wanted to have combo keys grouped together as much as possible. So my attack keys are set up like so: 1- Power Slice 2- Nimble Slash 3- Ablating Strike 4- Typhoon's Edge 5- Blinding Feint 6- Vengeful Slice 7- Sweeping Strike 8- One Thousand Cuts My typical attack rotation therefore goes like this against basic enemies: 1-2-3-4 (Weaken combo)-1-2-3-5 (Empower combo) repeat... I'll throw in a 3-6-7 Attack Vitals combo on tougher opponents and an 8-1-4 Sweep combo against multiple opponents. Since Power Slice is mostly missing when used as the opening attack, but misses much less frequently on subsequent uses, I have to suspect it's because the subsequent Power Slices are benefiting from the defense debuffs from Ablating Strike and Weaken. I suppose I could start opening with Nimble Slash and reserving Power Slice as nothing but filler, like so: 2-3-4-1-2-3-5... (On a completely unrelated topic: I also have a DB brute. When my brute uses Blinding Feint, she displays a "build up" effect, but my scrapper does not. Both are using the "No Redraw" option, so it's not a difference in power customization. The brute is much lower level and doesn't have any IO sets that would be causing it, so I don't know what's up there.)

The actual worst thing about that mission is twofold: * She's sending you to "Oranbega", but the map is a blue cave * She talks like you're going to Oranbega for the first time, but she offers this mission after she already sent you on another mission into the actual Oranbega. 😄

I went through this with Flares seeming to miss constantly on my fire blaster (I know there has been endless discussion of that, so I won't rehash here), but I did discover that Flares' accuracy greatly evened out as my blaster got higher in level, and especially once I had a full ATO set slotted into it. Power Slice, on the other hand... This is DB's T2 power (compared to Flares being T1). My DB scrapper has finally reached level 50, and Power Slice actually seems to have gotten worse over time. At level 50, I have the Superior Critical Strikes ATO set slotted in this power. In addition, I have global +ACC from three other IO set bonuses, and on top of that I have the Focused Accuracy power from the Body Mastery epic power pool (slotted with 2 lvl 45 +ToHit IOs). And still, Power Slice continues to miss with alarming frequency. For the time being I have a Defense Debuff set, which offers no +ACC at all, slotted into Ablating Strike, and it successfully hits with more consistency than Power Slice. This power is just not getting any better. What's going on here?

I couldn't support a TF that forcibly changes your alignment in order to complete it. If for no other reason than you'd forfeit your alignment power (if you earned one via alignment missions), and even if you immediately switched back to Hero (via Null) you'd still need to re-earn that power, which takes several days. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here.

Huh. I could have sworn I remembered getting that first contact as soon as i hit 50 the first time. The only Ouroboros stuff my main had done at the time was the introductory arc that just has you going around and meeting the various Ouro contacts. Or is that the arc Ramiel starts? EDIT: Okay, talked to Ramiel and started his arc. Now I remember it. EDIT #2: Okay, after finishing Ramiel's arc, I actually don't remember it. My first 50 must have simply unlocked Alpha via XP. Thanks!
