  1. Debating on skipping Ice Storm and instead getting Vengeance for one more LoTG 7.5 and to have 2 slots to play around with. Is Ice Storm worth it? Would I notice a difference in AoE without it? I noticed the HP cap with Hoarfrost on, it's not perma though and I get it so late that the +HP still seems viable, but may consider taking the slot in Tough and putting it elsewhere. Less than 1400 HP didn't sit right with me so I put the UG IO in Tough to patch that up.
  2. I made this thread a little while back. I posted my first iteration of a build in there. Got a little bit more feedback from it but not much. Expecting to change quite a bit moving forward. Someone posted a Plant/Fire/Fire build and I learned a lot from it on the Plant side. Give it a look!
  3. We’ve chatted a lot back and forth about /Dark Affinity Controllers and I too just rolled a Plant/Psi! Small world. I’m not at the computer now, but I can share what I learned from the Plant/Psi pros and about build theory. At least before the Dominator veterans arrive 😉 What I know so far... Strangler is your staple hold, nothing fancy here. Skip Entangle, I would normally take this power as a Controller to deal damage, but it’s entirely not needed on a Dominator. Roots is AMAZING. As you know, being a veteran Controller user, mass immob is great, but Root also does roughly twice the amount of damage than your usual mass immob and can do a respectable amount of damage when enhanced for damage and outfitted with a proc or two. Take it and spam it! Spore Burst is definitely skippable as is Tree of Life (although you could take ToL and get SOME utility out of it) Seeds of Confusion is your mob neuterer, with the purple confuse set and Domination, practically the entire mob will be confused. Vines is a great power, I opted to skip it because I feel Seeds is vastly superior. Seeds of Confusion will be up every mob with a high recharge build, and since you want the mobs to be damaging themselves, I found Vines clashed with what Seeds could do, more of a personal preference, it’s a great power in and of itself. Carrion Creepers are amazing. Slot them, proc them, abuse them. They will not disappoint. Fly Trap can take it’s fair share of procs too, I didn’t slot the Achille’s Heel proc in mine (opted to put it in Sleet instead) but this is a fantastic place to put that proc if nowhere else. Thats what I’ve picked up on from various users of Plant Manipulation/personal experience. Plant has extremely good crowd control and great AoE to boot. I’m less informed on Psi but have a pretty good understanding of it. I’ve frequently used every power in the set across other builds (I LOVE Mental Manipulation Blasters) minus the ranged blasts which are pretty straightforward. Your T1 is very handy to have when low level, but once you reach around level 28ish I would respec and pull all slots from it. Mind Probe is amazing and allows you to slot some incredible sets here like Hecatomb and Blistering Cold while also being synergistic with your build having a heavy reliance on being in melee, take this and skip Telekinetic Blow for your melee attack. Psychic Scream is pretty handy, too slow for me, and I’ve also never been the biggest fan of cone attacks, but still helpful. You won’t be hurting on AoE without it though, at least not when pairing Plant Manipukation with Psi. I took Mental Blast over Subdue, both are viable, you could even take both. But the build I have is redundant when using both as more important powers can be cycled and Mental Blast is available much earlier. They also have the same damage values, Subdue immobilizes, so that’s something. Drain Psyche is amazing, you can essentially CAP your Regen/Recovery with enough stacks. (Think Soul Absorption but with much higher values and a better debuff) and can basically be perma with enough recharge/help from Incarnates. My build has a 30.2 second recharge and the power has a 30 second duration. I took the snipe and have not regretted it since they made the changes to snipes. Great damage, pick it up, slot it and never look back. Psionic Assaults capstone, Psychic Shockwave, is great and my only complaint is that the potential stun has no synergy with any of the controls from Plant, still an amazing power and would 100% not skip. Quick overview on skippable powers in order from most skippable to least: Plant Manipulation- 1: Entangle 2: Spore Cloud 3: Tree of Life Psionic Assault- 1: Telekinetic Blow 2: Psionic Dart (not skippable, but would not recommend slotting it as the damage is pretty meh even with the buff.) 3: Subdue 4: Psychic Scream Hope this helps and gives you some insight (pun intended) before the veterans arrive!
  4. I've been seeing a lot of "put that unique in x power because you have it earlier..." Do you not get the bonus unless the power is available? Or does this only apply to unn-attuned IOs? I've exemplared down on my Dark/Shield quite often, and I have some uniques slotted in my level 49 power pick but still see the benefit even at level 15, 20, etc.
  5. "power" as in the IOs incorporated into the build. No matter what AT I make or power combos I try to make a version that is incredibly powerful and well slotted to suit my tastes. I typically go for sets, and am not very proc focused. I also have an incredibly offensive approach since I almost always team, so I don't like to be stuck activating powers only for the mob to be dead before said power activates. So far most of my builds have done pretty well!
  6. Lots of things I want to change but the build is really tight. Wanted 45% to S/L, achieved that. Hasten is about 5 seconds off of perma before Incarnates, so recharge is high, but could be higher. Would have liked more procs in my Psi attacks, most of them have at least 1, but the more the merrier. a Recharge reduction IO in Sleet would have been ideal, but it only dropped the recharge by 3-4 seconds and I can live with that. Is Ice Storm pretty decent on Doms? For some reason the base damage looks much higher than on any other set, is this a bug in my Hero Designer or is this legitimate? I have zero experience with Ice APP for Doms.
  7. Ended up creating a Plant/Psi/Ice. This is my proposed build! Have not leveled it to 50 yet (surprising, since I normally farm quite a bit) just haven't felt like farming much and am enjoying the pace of the slower grind. So I imagine the build will be tweaked quite a bit. Seeing a lot of power out of Seeds even though it is severely under enhanced currently. Let me know what you think!   9. It all varies. In the lower levels I do tend to open with Flashfire a lot. But at higher end content I open with Darkest Night (sometimes... other times I find the animation to be a waste on some mobs, as even without it they pose very little threat, but I do use it!) then immediately follow with Bonfire/Fire Cages and Tar Patch, use Soul Absorption if it isn't up or is flashing and about to be down, then I either spam my AoE (Fire Cages, Fire Ball) and throw in Flashfire here and there. If I know I will be dealing with the mob alone for awhile, I'll stack both stuns. But I often find it to be overkill, especially if the entire team is there, at that point I just spam my AoE damage and watch everything melt and bounce away. My biggest tip is to be aggressive. You want to be in the thick of things at all times, not only does this maximize your damage but also your survivability. With a healthy amount of Soul Absorption stacks you can have anywhere from 40-60 HP regenerating per second, it caps at 10 stacks in Pines but you can get more in game and you ALWAYS want this up and fully stacked.
  10. It's a really fun one! I've been focusing on other toons and need to dust this guy off. You can swap Fire Blast for Ring of Fire to be more exemplar friendly. My build currently has Ring of Fire and not Fire Blast, but I am fixing to respec into it soon as I want damage that is more upfront and also think it's a bit flashier than Ring of Fire. Both are entirely viable and Ring of Fire does slightly more DPS I believe. It requires a lot of attention to play this build to the best of it's ability. Fade recharges so quickly that it can be annoying to have to reset it. I try to buff the teammates with it as much as possible but frankly, if I am alive and doing my job, my teammates don't even need it. Tar Patch and Bonfire alone completely neuter mobs, any other CC after that only makes that combo even greater. I haven't done all of the content on this Controller but at 50+ I haven't come to fear anything. I'll rush into mobs without a second thought and can only remember a few times where it didn't work out for me. Switch the slotting on Tough and Fire Shield. Due to limitations in Pines Hero Builder, I had to slot the Hami-Os in Fire Shield because it abides by level up slotting. When you respec you are allowed to put your slots into any power freely, regardless of when they were granted. Doing this brings the enh value from 59% to 69%, it's not much, but it's a buff nonetheless. Also could take the toxic damage proc out of Fire Blast and instead slot the chance for Absorb proc in health.
  11. I'm posting this here because I have yet to get a Dominator to 50 on live or Homecoming and I want to change that. As the title states, I'm on a mission to get all ATs to level 50 with a full IO and Incarnate build. Influence is not an issue, I don't make merely any builds, I go for MAX POWAH!! I was wondering what some of your favorite Dom builds were/builds in general. Currently have a Blaster, Controller, Defender, Scrapper, Stalker, Brute, Corruptor and Warshade at level 50 and fully kitted out. Has anyone else done this? Was thinking of making a thread where we showcased our favorite builds across all ATs.

  13. This is my personal favorite Scrapper. You mentioned AoE… But also mentioned not hitting things like wet noodles. Dark/Shield/Blaze is a top tier "do it all" Scrapper. Soul Drain + Against All Odds + Shield Charge + Fire Ball is pretty substantial AoE and once you do your AoE chain you can mow down everything else with single target. melee.   14. Dark Melee/Fire Armor/Blaze. Burn backed by a saturated Soul Drain and Fiery Embrace will 1 shot practically everything but a boss. Smite/Siphon Life/Midnight Grasp will kill any boss that was just hit by your burn. Throw a Fire Ball in there and.... You get the idea.
  15. Both are pretty viable. in regards to offense/defense. I've just always leaned towards offense since most teams will steamroll content. It's not often on my Dark Affinity Trollers that the team requires further support. Put a Kinetics on the team and you are getting everything you want from just those two support sets. My opinion anyways. I often found myself in animation locks while the team moved on so I started building for pure damage and spam control. One thing I might add is trying to find a way to slot some resistance in Fade and prioritizing Regen in Soul Absorption. Even with no end mod enhancers, 2-3 stacks will give you more than enough end recovery, but your regen will be lacking.
  16. This is the build I use, I normally build my /Dark Affinity Controllers with an offensive approach, so I skipped some powers others might take. Hasten, Soul Absorption, Haunt and Fade are all perma. Soft-cap defense to all.. The Intuition Alpha boosts everything in this set, except for defense debuff because we don't have any. Does pretty respectable damage and like everyone says, you can laugh at everything in your way. I prefer playing my Fire/Dark Controller but this one is a blast!   17. Here is the final build I ended up with. Not a lot of changes but enough to make a noticeable difference. Been having a lot of fun with it. Run +4 ITFs and +4 Miss Liberty TFs quite frequently on Excelsior and I can freely jump into any mob with little consequences. Overall, one of my favorite characters and glad I made the leap!   18. I actually think for this particular build I should have done that. I haven't made this character since Homecoming, but did have it on live. I just really liked the idea of running Shadow Meld alongside Icy Bastion. But Blaze mastery fits thematically as well and is definitely the superior option for an all around build.

  20. Hey there! I wanted to share your same build but with some tweaks I think you'll like! I'll be going down the list explaining what I changed in your original build and why. As always, your build wasn't wrong! But there were some things in there that could be improved and that's what we will be going over. First, I wanted to get you to soft-cap defense to Smash/Lethal damage, you were at 35% which is respectable, but 45% is your goal (45% means even level enemies will have a 5% chance to hit you for the most part) and it wasn't too hard to do it! You put resistance IOs in Frozen Armor instead of defense, I would never recommend that on any build. I changed some slotting around on various powers as well. I put the Controller ATO in Block of Ice for max hold duration but also a good increase in damage with the chance for Psi damage proc and chance for smashing damage proc. I pulled all slots from Infrigidate, while not a 'bad' power, I wouldn't consider it a power to put more than 1 slot in, so I threw an acc IO in there and called it a day to use slots elsewhere. Frostbite can be spammed so quickly that mobs will almost always be immobilized despite not enhancing it, normally throw Posi's Blast in these powers, but your Epic Power Pool didn't have a targeted AoE set to throw Ragnarok in so I put that in instead. I would recommend slotting your AoE immobs like this every time as the boost in damage is very noticeable and appreciated, but it's just a personal preference. Changed the set you used in your Cold Dom shields to give some Smash/Lethal resist and more HP than LoTG set. Also pulled a slot from Hasten as it's only 3 seconds from being perma with 2 slots before incarnates and perma after incarnates. Pulled a slot from Combat Jumping, found other ways to get your KB/KD protection. Tough is essentially the same except I found a power more suited for the +def IO. I did not take Flash Freeze, I rarely take sleep powers as I'm always teaming and most of my builds do not need to approach the game in a cautious manner. If you REALLY want it, I would get rid of Assault and keep it to 1 slot for the times it might be useful. Not much to say about Arctic Fog, just changed the slotting and put some of the IOs you had elsewhere, here. I rarely slot Arctic Fog different than this since most builds follow a similar pattern, you could slot it for resistance but it would be a matter of 2% more res when those slots might have a HUGE impact somewhere else. Weave is also more or less the same, if you are putting an LoTG 7.5% recharge into any defense power that you will actually slot, I would almost 100% of the time just slot it with only LoTGs, saves you a slot that way. Added the chance for +2 mag on Glacier, kept the same set but did not use the smashing dmg proc, if you are dead set on keeping it in there you could put a different damage proc in Block of Ice and replace the Hold duration IO for the dmg proc. Benumb... You have it severely under slotted, always put a minimum of 1 Acc IO and 2 Recharge IOs, always. I add 2 acc IOs to ensure it makes its mark. This is the AV killer when you combine the rest of your debuffs, and as such you want it as close to a 30 second recharge as possible to maintain 100% uptime. Took one slot away from Superspeed and just threw the BotZ KB protection in there to yet again save a slot. Jack Frost, put Expedient Reinforcement for more recharge bonuses, if you want to put Soulbound in there just pick from some of the procs in this build that are not a part of a set bonus, IE, anything except the Controller ATO proc and add the slot to Jack Frost, both options would be great for this build. The way Sleet is slotted here is the most optimal slotting, period. This is one of the ways I have something slotted where I would highly suggest not slotting it differently. Achilles Heel proc and Annihilation proc are wonderful in this power, the two Lady Grey IOs further the defense debuff, give you plenty of recharge and also a +HP set bonus. Heat Loss is another power you had slotted poorly, if 6 slotting, put Efficacy in there and call it good, if 5 slotting use the same sets you used (Performance Shifter and Efficacy) but choose different ones. I would go End/Recharge, End/Acc/Recharge and Acc/Recharge for the Performance shifter IOs and then End/Recharge, End/Acc/Recharge on Efficacy. You want to prioritize Recharge, Acc, and End mod for this power. Added an extra proc in Ice Blast for more damage, changed the slotting in Frozen Armor like I explained above and then procced out and 6 slotted Ice Storm. Give this a try if you can!   21. This is my Fire/Dark Controller. Fade, Hasten and Soul Absorption are all perma before any incarnates (None of my incarnates provide recharge anyhow) Fade powered by Clarion gives you an average of around 47% defense to all and max Smash/Lethal resist. Out of all my builds this one has impressed me the most, the utility you can bring to teams is top tier. I've had the most success on teams running ahead of everyone and CCing the mob and getting Tar Patch + Bonfire down on all mobs before the team engages, then using Soul Absorption to buff everyone's regen/recovery. Then rush ahead and repeat. I have zero end issues with Soul Absorption having a 100% uptime, I still feel Cardiac is essential though as sometimes you will not be surrounded by mobs.   22. I figured it was a pseudo-pet effect. I have the Superior Avalanche chance for KD IO slotted in it. When the patch drops almost 100% of the time everything flops as if it were a Bonfire or an Ice Patch.
  23. Fourth is Dark/Radiation, this set is hilarious and so fun to play. Radiation is great because it has two things.. One is a +recharge taunt toggle that offers some nice utility in -to-hit debuffs and -defense debuffs to all enemies surrounding you, you get a stacking +recharge buff for every enemy near you which helps keep Soul Drain up constantly. You also get a PBAoE attack in Ground Zero that does respectable damage and recharges at a moderate rate. Picked up Shadow Meld and Unleash Potential again here, and along with Meltdown you have moments where you will have MASSIVE defense to all and are at the resistance cap for all damage except Cold and Psionic. I love stacking those two buffs, and with the debuff resistance you get from Ageless, you rarely die. Fun fact about this build.. When affected by your maximum +recharge potential in this build, you can have so much recharge that your powers will actually reach their limit on being affected by more recharge.. This is only for a short duration but still pretty frikkin awesome. This makes Soul Drain permanent by a large margin and leaves only a 3 second downtime from entering Shadow Meld.   24. Third is Dark/Ice. AoE isn't nearly as good in this build but you give up a bit of damage there for a bit more utility and tankiness. Icicles help make you feel better about yourself as your cycling away your single target melee attacks. Dipped into Leadership to help ALMOST have soft-cap defense to S/L/E/N and having Tactics is always nice, especially when your +dmg power requires a to-hit check on critters to work and also has the potential to proc for even more damage and acc with Guassians.   25. Second is Dark/Fire. Blazing Aura and Burn are incredible when backed by a full Soul Drain and Fiery Embrace and patch up your lack of AoE (Common theme in almost all of these builds) The only gripe I have with Dark Melee IS its lack of AoE and it's still one of the most viable sets with that drawback. I threw in Unleash Potential and Shadow Meld from your patron power pool to maximize toughness. Shadow meld soft caps you to all damage types and positions in the ENTIRE game and only has an 8 second downtime. I would recommend this and the Dark/Shield/Pyre build I shared for anyone who has been staying away from Dark Melee because of it's lack of AoE, these combos patch it up entirely.
