  1. Tough one. What if you changed the concept slightly to make a character who increases their own luck while cursing enemies? Then I would go Dark/SR Sentinel. ("I don't even need to dodge!") Alternatively, I've always thought about a Time/? Defender attached to the idea of fate, which would be somewhat related to luck or destiny. Perhaps a failed astrologer whose faulty spellcasting gained him superpowers?
  2. I always tell myself: The character creator is at least 50% of the game. Sometimes I'll spend an hour making a character and never get it past level 4, but I still love it. I'll click on it briefly at the character select screen and think, "Heh. Yeah. Cool." ...and then promptly log in to another character. Ha! Maybe I'm weird, but I'm at peace with that. The combat system is solid-if-outdated, people on teams are nice, and the "lore" of the game is pretty neat. But the truth of the matter is I've played Map #258 about a jillion times, clicked an uncountable number of glowies, and screenshotted myself on the Clockwork King's throne. The thing that keeps me booting up this game is the inspiration I randomly get for a character concept to match an odd power combo. Sometimes, even just imagining how Blackstar would synergize with Flash Arrow is enough to justify this entire game in my mind. Ok... I'm weird. Sue me. 😅
  3. Yeah but those powersets getting fixed is huge content for me. Storm Blast, for example, is really just for the pixels for me because the Storm Cell mechanic isn't really workable on teams. I love blasters (and the animation for Direct Strike is my favorite in the game), and would love to see a couple of small tweaks to make this set very cool! I work 1.5 jobs, I'm a dad, etc. so where my life is right now I can't really enjoy new Task Forces that take 1+hrs, or spend a bunch of time playing with Mids. I get maybe half an hour a day to pretend I work with Stan Lee making up superheroes and watching them in action... so the better it feels, the more "content" I'm enjoying. I do recognize that others enjoy the game differently, though! 😅
  4. Incblot - Water/dark blaster. Ex-"liaison" (censor) between the shadow government and mega-corporations. Made a deal with a nether-entity to exchange his soul for enough raw power to destroy the wicked. Wild Run - Beast/Nature MM. Native-American-looking fellow with mutative powers to communicate with nature. And my favorite... Red Arc - Dark/Trick Arrow blaster. A powerful vampire whose sanity and humanity were restored when he stumbled upon the secret hideout of his former-best-friend, who had been a hero long ago. Donning his former friend's armor forces the darkness inside to abate, allowing Red (Redemption) Arc to be a superhero.
  5. It is a little silly for me (34 y/o) to spend my tiny amount of free time pretending to be a superhero in a 20 year old game, but thanks for making it possible. 😄 P.S.: Looking forward to the next balance patch... soon? 🙂
  6. Population still very good, chats are full, updates are very solid for a free game. Fun as hell.
  7. I have to be the voice of dissent here... In my own mind, I just can't make these "discordant" characters and play them seriously. For me, the point of making a character theme is that their name, costume, and powers (and backstory, which I'm sure nobody but me reads) cohere to broadcast exactly who they are and what they can do. I want people to look at my hero and go "Ah, clever, I get it," rather than "lol." P.S.: This is why I can't stand lots of recent superhero films. What the hell is going on with "The Marvels"? A Skittles-diverse trio of little girls wielding powers greater than atomic weaponry and enduring battles worse than the worst horror stories? My suspension of disbelief does break at some point!
  8. I think every legitimate combination of the current powersets is in the game now. Y'know what would be fun, though? A true transformer type... You can transform into any enemy, let's say, that you can get in range of. Maybe that's your T1 power, and the rest of your set can be powers you acquire through playing the game (but you can only have, say, 8 at a time). Impossible to balance, probably, but cool!
  9. I completely understand where you're coming from, and I understand that for some people, pushing the absolute limits of their character (and the game) is fun for them. I don't enjoy having so much recharge that most of my own primary is useless, although again I am sure it's the objectively most efficient way to play. 🙂
  10. I love this power: Flavorful, unique, and effective. I'm Psi/Energy, so I can start wayyyyy out of range of a mob, Power Boost for increased secondary effects, and fire off Scramble/nado sometimes twice before the mob even gets to me. The immobs/holds/sleeps from Scramble slow their advance just enough to be useful on indoor maps. Plus, it's just cool to watch your psychic-mind-scrambly-thingies bounce around a bunch of enemies as they panic/go unconscious/fly into the air (from nado)...
  11. I'm a bit of a noob, but: I'm conflicted about stalker primaries that have lots of AoE's. To me, the flavor of a stalker is the beat-em-up style of killing things one by one, but very rapidly (1-2 attacks). Makes you feel like a real ninja/secret agent/action hero. I'm sure having AoE's is objectively better, though.
  12. That's crazy. Skip the cones, then, even for big packs of mobs?
  13. Hey guys, Croax's guide has a brief mention of DB only being good if you completely ignore the combo system. I've been playing my DB using the combo system and I quite like it, but is it somehow a DPS loss? Are there ANY of the combos worth using? I don't have a ridiculous amount of recharge yet, but I sure feel like I'm kicking ass... lol. Should I just spam the heavy attacks and ignore the combos?
  14. Just here to echo Seeds and Judgement incarn. They're strong enough to trivialize so much. Really would like to see a nerf on both for the health of the game.
  15. It'd be cool if there was a way to effectively *move* your charged Cat 5 or Storm Cell, and if continuing to charge it would extend its duration, possibly indefinitely. That would make a bit of a "fury mechanic" unseen so far for blasters, because you'd always try to keep your storms blowing at full power. Thematically appropriate, too, eh? What do y'all think of that?
  16. Outsider question: What's so great about electrified net arrow?
  17. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only guy alive that loves blasters but doesn't like DP. I don't get the set. The damage feels anemic, and one or two of the animations just feel stupidly long. I've read you can "proc the hell out of the set," but whatever... I don't have trillions of info and I like characters that feel better right out of the box. My DP guy has a cool theme but I shelved him in his 30's, sadly. I've had a lot more fun with Elec blast and Psi blast guys.
  18. Back in the day I got both Pawprint and Pawstruck. I'm not a furry, I just think those are cool names. /e embarrassed
  19. This is such a weird thread. This one, tiny thing impacted you so much that it's merited all this? 'kay.
  20. That's a helpful way to think about it and makes sense of the experience I'm having on my Psi blaster. Thanks!
  21. Are the power descriptions kind of a noob trap, then? Because it's like every third defensive set mentions whether it offers anything against psionics. This had led me to believe that psi would be resisted by only robots, really, and be uniquely cutting through other enemies.
  22. First time seeing a Kheldian in form. Log in, friend PST's me, "have u seen them? their awesome." Nova-form Peacebringer descends on me in Perez Park at that exact moment.
  23. Wasn't this originally an old radio show where The Shadow was basically a detective whose superpower was to turn invisible? I always thought it would be an enormous curse to know what people do when they think they're alone. I do think there are some genuinely good people out there, but I sure wouldn't want to know the numbers...
  24. Before "furry" was a word that anyone had ever heard of, I became friends with a group of them on accident. I just like animals (not like *that*...) and I liked making cat characters, which at the time had to be female if you wanted the ears. I ended up joining a SG of flurries unwittingly... Conversations got weirder and weirder, but I'm the kind of guy that likes random weird stuff, drama, and conflict, so I stayed around for a while pretending to vibe with them. Weird as hell.
  25. I don't understand the angst, except for the fawning, which does seem a little annoying. Part of the fun of any RPG is optimization. We like to geek out over numbers and effectiveness sometimes. I personally use this game as a glorified character creator, but occasionally I like to know what works better or worse, too. (You just posted in my thread, Zect, and it was fun.) E.g., I myself would like to hear more about whether others think AR is good now, because it's difficult to evaluate changes from a distance. I have a family and very little time to play. I won't be tinkering with Mids or farming inf for hours... so it's interesting to me to see rankings/meta/etc., especially as updates come out. (I'll still happily make a Sonic/Dev blaster if I get a good concept though.) Actually, the "play what you like" line is pretty facile, itself. Not saying you're using it, but some players throw it around like "YOLO" or "tolerance" or whatever other platitudinous tropes humanity can come up with when people don't want to think. /e shrug
