  1. Name: Gon-La Status: Active Location: Somewhere in the coreward portion of the Milky Way Galaxy Physical Description: "Cloud-Sentient Nanite Motiles" Affiliation: Unknown Idiosyncracies and way of life: Interstellar Explorers Most remarkable tech hallmark: Repurposing stardrive tech to better suit contact with carbon-based lifeforms Cultural Progress Level: Post-Enlightenment, FTL capable, driven by curiosity rather than resource scarcity (Probably due to their -extremely- small size) History: In 2017, a fleet of Gon-La exploratory craft encountered the deep space probe New Horizons after it sailed past the orbit of Pluto. The fleet had never encountered something so large, measuring over 2m across; they mistook it for a spaceborne city. After deciphering its data patterns and analyzing trace elements embedded in its structure, they were surprised to learn that the creators were not cloud-sentient motiles like themselves, but giant carbon-based biological beings. Since evidence of Life (especially carbon-based) was scarce, the fleet was retasked, with a single hyper-buoy sent coreward to report the discovery. New Horizons was assimilated to create what they believed would be a liason between the two civilizations, nanite and biological. Current Agenda: Establish contact with other sentient races, assess viability of formal treaties/tech exchanges. Currently discovering that their entire fleet + one NASA space probe is only slightly larger than human norm and has yet to achieve notice by anyone above a local police commissioner.
  2. Native American mutant with wings and weather powers, vigilante and former AIM activist Time-displaced illusionist who was perfectly happy as a Vaudeville performer Just another Hero Corps jarhead, saddled with 'testing' experimental Crey tech, yes it has bugs PCFD firefighter piloting a big Gundam with lots of ways to put fires out and help people Robot made of pinball machine parts in addition to a miniaturized fusion reactor Starship from a race of intelligent nanites, they misjudged the scale of most carbon-based life Space alien 'liason' sent to us, but aliens only had 1940's and 1950's pulp movies as references to our culture Performance domme specializing in staged electrical effects, Carnies thought it'd be funny to give her actual electrical powers Blind martial artist possessed by a Tsoo ancestor spirit, only it's a sweet old auntie Involuntary Tsoo sorcereress turned heroine, damn those Tsoo really should do better research on what tattoos to put on whom, and in what order Yet another Tsoo-trafficked woman, this is tsurning into a bad trope. Subatomic physicist with an afro, a 1970's blaxploitation movie vibe, and STILL suffering the effects of a lab accident... Former Crey employee with prosthetic limbs, a battlesuit, a bunch of killer bots, and an outstanding Workman's Comp claim A mindwiped ninja that somehow survived Arachnos' "Destined Ones" program A Praetorian riot cop that says "Freeze!" and means it literally A Haitian grandmother with an eerie connection to a Voodoo loa Time displaced supermodel, now a Viking-styled shieldmaiden, not saying it was aliens, but yeah, aliens. Arachnos Widow with a vampy attitude and an 'agenda' Former court stenographer melded with a Nictus, now she's a Warshade and a pinup model Vigilante inventor with an unlicensed particle accelerator on her back that could power Rhode Island, instead she's using it to fight crime Obligatory succubus, only this one's been around since before Christ, and has soured on the 'steal souls' demonic agenda, instead she's a hedonistic vigilante cos boredom Fae with the power over ice and snow, fell in with the Carnies and now she's a wandering street performer and occasional petty criminal Greek demigoddess of wine and parties, yes that should be Bacchus but we rule 34'd... PCFD EMT using captured Sky Raider tech to bypass traffic to get to the scene faster, it sort of works... Bookish girl gets psychic powers, discovers that she can only affect others by touch, so she took a fencing class to get gud... Fixer figure with a small entourage, turns out she doesn't really have powers... but she activates powers in other people (Mature RP story concept for additional characters)
  3. I really should look into doing DJ'ing, do people use Twitch or just a Shoutcast relay page? I've been DJ'ing in Second Life for a couple of years now, but with that we can pipe the Shoutcast to "parcel audio" and all people need to do to hear it is show up, no loading extra pages/programs required. Can't do that in CoH, sadly.
  4. Question: with all the buffing that MM pets got (Supremacy now grants IO bonuses, all pets spawn at even level, yadda yadda)... did anyone manage to track down the melee vs range bug with MM pets, the one that's been a thing since CoV went live? Cos if I find there's still a suicidal battle drone that insists on beating on things instead of using the perfectly servicable Death Lasers I've made a point to install and test... I shall be put out, indeed. 😛 (Seriously, this sounds good, but if "Dame Demolition" turns into "Dame Minor Structural Damage"... guess I'll have to copy her over and test. 🙂 ))
  5. I'm liking this concept quite a lot. Especially the coordination aspect, figuring out that the tank is only as strong as their friends, and adopting tactics to take down support characters and leave the tanky builds vulnerable. The 'Defense in Place' doctrine also makes a lot of sense. These guys are posted up to protect corporate assets and keep the peace. They're not roaming around with some hero or villain's face on their smartphones, like Malta operatives. Malta are very much kill squads, whereas BWI seem to be more "don't mess with us in our backyard" defensive ops. I will say that my one encounter with the GM was a bit anticlimactic. I saw the big robot fighting ... something... at the base of One Statesman Plaza, so I flew closer on my Stormfender to see what was up. Oh. There's a group of people beating on this thing. Okay. I debuffed it like I do all GM's - throw Snowstorm on it, spawn Freezing Rain, Tornado and Lightning Storm to get any adds flailing around in a panic instead of attacking, and then started zapping it with electrical bolts. At that point? The crew that had been beating on it pretty much dismantled it in short order. No idea if my efforts helped, but they weren't shrugged off either, and nothing tried to swat me as an annoyance (Lusca seems to love doing that to flyers that get in close). One thing I DID notice is that inside the tower at the penthouse level, are an entire crew of neutral (untargetable NPC) Controllers. It would seem to me that IF the big Guardian robot should get attacked or aggro'd, those Controllers would dispatch entire task forces worth of adds into the plaza to 'restore order'. Make it so that fighting the GM also requires fighting pretty much ALL of BWI, since it's their HQ that's the site of the battle. Your typical 5-10 person monster hunter groups would find their hands full quickly, and some kind of strategy to hold off the BWI reinforcements would be needed, lest the group get overwhelmed and "taken into custody". The OTHER thing to consider - what happens if you get laid out by BWI? They're the cops in Kallisti, right? So... surely they have some kind of holding facility, like some of the older Council bases. Set it up so that if BWI defeats you in KW, you don't go to the hospital, you go to a holding cell... which you have to break out of, escape the facility (oh noes, more BWI, and you're by yourself unless you wait around for your friends to be detailed also) and then get back to what you were doing. And there's another tactical option - BWI are effectively neutral unless and until you attack them. If a Coordinator sees you going up against BWI assets... the 'state' of all of the other BWI mobs in the zone flips to "hostile" for you, as they're advised of a disruptive meta, now you have to be careful not to get too close to any of them until the BOLO (Be On The Look Out) expires.
  6. Countess Hours - Time-traveling Controller that 'borrows' power from her future selves - this is the 'training montage' theme for her shuttling back and forth in time.
  7. Oh this aged well... (not!)
  8. Sounds like that one needs to be put into the "Go away, bot" blackhole. Perhaps Bing/Microsoft is jealous that another LLM is trawling and encroaching on their monopoly?
  9. Donated! And thank you again for keeping CoH alive and growing.
  10. Wonder how insanely nuts it would be to get "pet customization" such that one could swap out different model sets? ex: Robots could have the standard set, or Clockwork, or Praetorian Clockwork... Ninjas could have the base set, Knives of Artemis, or Tsoo-themed, Soldiers could go stock, Arachnos, or Malta... that sort of thing?
  11. Kinetics. Because travel powers that don't sap mobs on the way by are just toggles. 🙂
  12. Moar. Arc. Slots. Three stories is too small a number. 🙂
  13. Great minds think alike. Mine is Baronessa Samedi (the Rule 34 version of the Live and Let Die character he played).
  14. Something I noticed a long time ago (yes, on Live) was that the bio panel seemed to be somewhat HTML driven. You could change colors, bold text, and the like. But, with that, often the editor would throw in codes in place of characters, likely to keep those characters from 'escaping' and causing havoc. Yes, this is a thing in coding - special characters need to be isolated so that program code doesn't try to interpret them. This meant that extra characters were being used, only you couldn't see them. So you'd fill out the bio, and... it'd get cut off. Or the text focus would jump around, and you'd have trouble editing the thing. What does this mean for bio length? Well it's both a problem, in that you're only given so many characters to express yourself, and a solution, which is to redirect the bio to a Web-based resource that the game loads when you pull up someone's info panel. Everyone here has a profile page, for their forum identity. Imagine if there was a thread linked to your bio, with a post for every character you create (@global&server&character). Now, this trick DOES presuppose the game having enough resources to load that page, no matter how long it gets. But it should (!) get around the issues of stuffing character bio info into database entries in the game's backend. All that gets stored THERE is the URL to that character's "bio post". It also means that your character list/bios would be available outside of the game itself, perhaps as a persistent link or table on your forum profile. Now, let's talk editing, and redirects. Obviously you shouldn't be allowed to throw just any link into the bio, and have the game load it for you. That would be dangerous and foolish. So, here's a possible scenario - 1) You can put in raw text, as how things work now. 2) you can click a button to spawn your browser to your character thread, with either the post for your character displayed and an Edit button featured, or (if blank) a new reply to that character thread, with a blank text box ready for editing. I would expect the rules for what could go into such a thread would be very restrictive, likely text only, or if images were allowed, limited to size AND hosting domain so no adult pics were featured. There's still a lot of risks, as people who know HTML, CSS, and the like can tell you. But it might be a possible solution. YMMV.
