  1. I'm definitely familiar with this behavior in other MMOs, but I think the incentives/community are such that you don't really get this nearly as often in CoX. Other MMOs have a lot more 'chore' activities that people are heavily incentivized to do even if they don't want to. I most see it occur in CoH in Incarnate trials, and never more than mild mischief.
  2. I would probably split it up three ways. Consequentially Hero Warden Resistance Vigilante Responsibility Loyalist Rogue Power Loyalist Villain Crusader Resistance We know in the end that the Wardens and Loyalists both ended up being more key in bringing down Tyrants' reign and saving the remnants of Praetoria than the Crusaders, while the Crusaders' methods mostly led to them getting absorbed by the Council. Though this depends, by definition, on post-hoc reasoning and Power Loyalists like Reese of all people being beneficial to the survivors was really not foreseeable. Intentionality Hero Warden Resistance Vigilante Responsibility Loyalist Rogue Crusader Resistance Villain Power Loyalist Most (definitely not all) crusaders express some concerns for innocents, but they simply say that it must be accepted. Power Loyalists at most have the option to express concern at the end of one arc. Your character is written as nakedly power-hungry otherwise; even though you work alongside characters like Warrant who seem to be more "put myself in the spotlight without harming others", you are largely written as unconcerned with such. Methodology Hero Responsibility Loyalist Vigilante Warden Resistance Rogue Power Loyalist Villain Crusader Resistance Power Loyalists break the law left and right as long as they're out of sight from anyone who can catch them. Wardens never do anything even slightly shady iirc other than rebelling at all.
  3. ATs and/or powersets with very transferrable skills from previous played: I usually know the general thrust before I make it, though I often make major revisions around the 30s and small tweaks for several weeks after level cap. AT and/or powersets that are very different from what I'm used to? I'll make a build going in, but it's probably level 30 before I really know where I'm going and I make multiple build redos along the way.
  4. I like the default music well enough but that was a fun bit of nostalgia. It also led me to find that there is a mod that does what I wanted originally: going rogue enh screen for everyone. It's not perfect since the clickable elements remain their normal colors, but it's much less eye-straining than the low contrast high dark blue background default.😄 Thanks!
  5. Put on AMD Contrast Sharpening and PPFX Bloom at 0.3 (down from default 0.5). Really happy with how it looks so far. Normally I find reshade to be unhelpful but this game's old enough it does some nice stuff.
  6. Crusader is pretty evil, yeah. I rate it less so than power because I'm more sympathetic to its evil born out of desperation (though some are adrenaline junkies too) and I think it occasionally lands a point. But where all the other alignments have things you can be sympathetic about, Power is like, HELL YEAH I'LL KICK A PUPPY TO GET ON TV which is kind of hilariously self-absorbed. You are right that it mostly does less depraved things though.
  7. It took me until this year to level red or do power in Praetoria as I really dislike being evil, but I'll still do it over old blue at this point. Portal Jockey and TF Commander are bad enough. Pretty with you on the ATs, too. I think Blaster with the newer powersets and its current inherent stands out from the hero ATs but Brute, Corr, MM, Stalker, Dom are really just so much more fun in basic design than their counterparts.
  8. That's on me, sorry, I misread. Yes, it should say 50+1 when another player clicks on you. Your T3 or T4 Alpha is still slotted?
  9. I do miss the friendly neighborhood Spiderman vibe of old blue contacts. I just wish getting it back didn't mean I had to play old blue missions.
  10. The CoT to-hit is pretty overkill imo on low to mid level characters, esp. on defensive ATs. On high level characters, I didn't even realize the CoT got a buff initially. Anything balanced around cascade effects is very particular and not easy to solve though. One of my suggestions would be that enemies that drop to hit debuffs have unusually low melee and moderately low ranged defense with standard AoE defense. This would reward knowing and prioritizing your targets rather than nova spam while minimizing cascade whiffing.
  11. I generally don't ask people who are currently annoyed to justify why they are annoyed. Especially not if I don't already know them. It's a further irritation. Fortunately, I am friends with several newer players who wonder why I spend as much time as I do answering questions in Help. It comes down to the fact that in other MMOs (and even some HC servers) all global channels are equally or near equally prone to spillover backbiting, spam, bigoted statements, political arguments, etc. that are actively unpleasant. Help is usually not as bad as general can be imx and neither are the sewer that such chats can be in other games, but most people don't care to find out what kind of skunk they just smelled. I think salvage is an incredibly confusing system for one of the most superficially byzantine crafting systems in an MMO, and I don't think IOs clearly beat SOs to be worth the time and hassle for anyone who hasn't deeply planned their build out until the 40s. At the very least, 25 is the generally agreed on point. I don't think you can remove salvage from the game at the lower levels, that's a minor pain point that will just have to be lived with, too intertwined with the game's economy. But it's not helping the new player experience.
  12. Ninja Run, like all travel powers, is suppressed for several seconds after you make an attack. A decent amount of movespeed IO bonuses, combat jumping, and a few slots into sprint can do absolute wonders for your movement in combat though. This stands with ninja and athletic run, so out of combat you can move at comparable speeds as someone with a true travel power. I also find it much more fun to traverse the cities this way, personally. Super jump feels weird and floaty, super speed is too fast for a lot of things...
  13. Thanks. Will that affect enhancement screens? I'm guessing not but a girl can hope.
  14. I've met new players that turn off general and help. (One of the most common questions I see in general after an unpleasant discussion is "how do i turn off this channel"). The consignment house works like no other auction house in any other game I've played, and less reliably, which makes it daunting to use. DOs, SOs, and IOs are a confusing set that follow different rules on a type of character building that is different from any other MMO and most closely resembles one of the crunchier tabletop games that no one but diehards play. (This isn't an insult, I play games like that, but it's true) And worst of all, the gulf between those who understand these steps and those who don't is very high. I don't think using pricing to drive people to the consignment house really incentivizes usage meaningfully, but if you have to argue to a newbie that it's okay for something unintuitive to feel bad, like not having something to fill all your slots, you've got a good chance of losing them.
  15. That looks like the same information, yes! Your screen might not be wide enough for the forum widget to pop up automatically, on further investigation. The dots show population on server selection, with one dot being low pop and three being high pop. As noted, they have zero dots now because they're offline.
  16. In two places, to my knowledge. You can check on the right-side of the forums in desktop mode: And you can see when you select a server after logging in: The icons are a bit off because the game's offline for maintenance atm. Note that the AH is shared over all servers. I don't know if your particular server's population has an effect on it separate from the overall server population status. I play on Everlasting, which is one of the busier (though not busiest) servers. Most responsive times for the AH for me have been around 8 AM EST, when I imagine most of the game's population across the Americas and Europe is at work, asleep, tending to children, etc. Worst have been late afternoon to night-time, which is also when pops are high.
  17. Because you are level 50 in every way except for how you interact with enemies in incarnate content. It's not intuitive, it's very hacky and weird by most game standards, but that's CoH for you.
  18. There are slight differences in style. Old blueside maps are likely to be larger, more likely to be defeat alls, and more likely to only have one enemy group. Some groups in old redside have slightly different group composition, like the meat doctors in the Freaks, and are slightly more likely to have ambushes. These differences are less noticeable than they used to be because newer missions on all content (including gold side) make these changes even more dramatically.
  19. And likewise made it very simple for me to turn my existing binds to modern immediately. Though I think shenanigunner means that an end user can't understand what that means and is not able to easily hack the controls it switches.
  20. It is a minor thing but i much prefer the colors on that enhancement screen and honestly the login screen over the other two. Just looks better. Thanks.
  21. After some experimentation to try and fix some odd bugs I was dealing with, it looks like the new keybind save format has an issue where it struggles to wipe a preceding overwrite sometimes and your overwrites for a key conflict. I had to manually clean some of my bind files to remove duplicate entries.
  22. From casual observation as someone who did not realize they had made changes to the AH: When server population is low, new changes seem to make the AH more responsive. When server populations are medium to high, it is much worse. I think it is a scaling issue.

  24. "Okay, so these are tough pulls, but it's entirely doable if I take this specific enemy out first before letting loose with the Nova." Aim+Build Up-->Snipe, and miss, opening multiple encounters in a row. 😅
  25. Luminara gave a good detailing, but the short version is that I'm not frustrated at the streakbreaker, I'm frustrated at the missing so often at 95% hit chance. The human brain doesn't do percentages well. The Fire Emblem series has most of its games lie to the player, using a two roll system where you take the better result above 50% chance and the worse below 50% chance. Ever since it started lying to the player in this way, it has done a much better job comporting to player expectations of frequency based on those numbers.
