Some cut scenes in this game are amazing. Some... lacking. There's a range, some are genuinely emotional, others just leave me at least, scratching my head and thinking double you tea eff. So which are your faves, more importantly why are they your fave? What do they do for you and how they make you feel? I think for me, there are two standouts: Raymond Keyes' final stand, giving PHamidon the big "what for" as he realises all his plans and dreams are up in smoke but he's not going to give it up without making sure plenty of folk remember him. That conveys power, emotion and the finale to a great arc. The other I like is the Frostfire where he talks about stuff not being simply black and white (and clobbers his mate who opens his mouth too soon) My least fave, wtihout a doubt is where Calvin Scott confronts his wife Mother and she just says "oh we're not married, you're insane, next please!" Like what? A whole fricking expansion and that was the denouement? "Yep, you're crazy now toddle off I got better shit to deal with" was so heartbreakingly disatisfying. That and the Well of the Furies when the Menders are in the cave and they missed the bleedin' obvious. Over to you!

Bonus: It allows you to accept teleport quickly and easily without having to auto-accept Double WIN!

Mysterious Savage Melee Hawk Attack
Scarlet Shocker replied to sponazgul's topic in General Discussion
Face it, you're not cool enough. You're one of the Left Behind because you didn't get chosen for the Raptor! -
I like that you know your history. I was thinking more about Maurice of Nassau and his early drill manuals and the English Civil War where dragoons were deployed with considerable effect. I'm not expert in that arena, but I know a fair bit, though it wasn't an area of specialist study. My main goal in this is to convey a concept of a highly mobile force capable of wielding range and melee weapons and bringing something new to the game that was a mainstream power set not exclusively for VEATs or EATs and my weapon choice is as above. As I said earlier I think we have plenty of "rifles" - the best "guy with a gun" in game is probably a Huntsman Spider VEAT, just ignore the respec and go centre path all the way and you have other options with Mercs MM, Beam Rifle (regular readers of my input here will know how I feel about that) and the AR set. A shotgun allows for something different because the vast majority of gun sets are ST and I envisage this set as a cone TL;DR - I'm not trying to provide an history lesson here, simply a concept inspired by history that fits within our game. .

Thank you. Yes, I was aware but then I'd probably have to add it as a postscript anyhow or then go into each power and change the description at length. The reason I went for Shotgun rather than pistol is that I wanted the dragoon concept and pistols were much more of a cavalry weapon in the early modern period of the military revolution. Dragoons would ride to a fortification, such as a stone wall, dismount and take cover there. They would use ranged weapons. The Carbine (A short barrelled firearm, not always rifled) was developed for their purpose since easier to transport on horseback than a long musket. As I explained in my OP I felt that a shotgun provided a different firearm than we already had in the game. I did consider a pistol - but that might be too close to aping the SBB poster of the gladiator and I felt that making a set synonymous with that might create a preconception of "Romans with Gunz"

ugh I realised I've left something out. Most sword attacks should be ST while the shotgun attacks should be a cone.

I've always wanted to have a kind of Dragoon style set. For those who don't really know what that means, Dragoons were an early-modern invention; highly mobile lightly armoured troops who could get to a position and then defend it, be that a flank or a fortification or something. They would have early firearms but also swords for close fighting. They are the proto-light mechanized infantry of the day. That's a very brief overview and in this game I imagine that would be exemplared by a firearm and a melee weapon (often the two were synonymous, historically; once you'd fired your flint/matchlock you would use it as a bludeoning weapon in close quarters combat) I chose Shotgun here because we have many firearms in game but that is not one we already have and gives an interesting range of options. And whilst we have a few bladed weapon options (Dual Blades, Greater Fire Sword) we don't have many single actual blades. And of course, in this game a sword can mean anything from a dagger to a boar hunting sword. So having thought about this a bit here's kind of where I'm at. I'm completely aware that seeing this in game is very much wishful thinking not least because it would require new animations as well as weapon models and it does blur those distinct melee vs range guidelines that all but VEATS and HEATS break but I hope you like what I've come up with so far. Sword & Shotgun: You wield two weapons, a sword and a shotgun, thus inflicting both smashing and lethal damage on your opponents depending on which weapon you happen to be favouring at any given moment. Very much a 2nd line role you will be supporting your allies with a range of melee and ranged attacks. Because your opponent can never be entirely certain what weapon you will use to attack him, you have a very slight chance to disorient him with every attack. Single Shot: You shoot your gun once at an enemy doing minor smashing damage with a very small chance to knockdown. Slash: You slash at your enemy with your sword, doing some minor lethal damage Bludgeon: You use your shotgun as a cudgel and bash your enemy in the face with the butt, doing smashing damage with a small chance to disorient Viscious Stab: You stab at your foe trying to gut him, delivering moderate lethal damage. Both Barrels: You let your opponent have both barrels up close and personal giving him serious pause for thought and a good chance for knockdown Thumping Headache: You fire your shotgun at your enemy doing smashing damage and then follow up with a brutal slash causing lethal damage. A successful hit will knock your enemy down and possibly disorient him for a while Boarstrike: You rush to your foe with a sudden fast teleport, your sword stretched out in front of you to impale him with lethal damage. Then you follow up with a bludgeoning strike with your shotgun's butt doing more smashing damage. A successful charge increases your To Hit for your next two attacks and can knock the enemy down Mr Slash Slash Bang Bang: You slash at your enemy and then stab him, dealing a double dose of lethal damage and having done that follow it up with a blast from both barrels of your shotgun, almost certainly knocking him down and disorienting him. All of these attacks do superior damage. I feel like I've got the bones of it there but I'm sure I've missed some interesting functions out and I know you guys will have plenty of input as well so I'd love to see how you can refine and improve on this

I genuinely hadn't considered this but as things stand already, I have too many windows open

Disabling Costume Powers
Scarlet Shocker replied to Scarlet Shocker's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
Wish I'd thought of that before you responded -
I use 10 but I've never seen the option. I'd be interested to know if it's doable
-
I wasn't being completely serious. Sorry if you took it that way. I've almost no intention of going for Windows 11
-
Do not like. Do not want. I'd like to be able to disable the receipt of the costume powers. They are like spam to me and I hate them in my trays. I don't want to disrupt anyone else's pleasure but to me they are as useful as spam fritters. Can I make them stop pls?
-
I can confirm this works beautifully thank you 🙂 Edited to add: you have to spell it the American way, not the English way. As Winston Churchill once put it: England and America are two nations divided by a common language

I used Fedora for around a decade but never KDE I could stick needles in my eyes too and that would solve the problem in a different way 🤣 I'd love it to be clickless
-
I've never known that in Linux. I use it for my day2day stuff and have a Windows gaming rig What distro are you using?
-
Fantastic, thanks very much
-
that's incredibly useful. I didn't know it was a thing but thank you. But one question: How does it know what is ok? How do I bind it? I think I'd want a clicky in my Power trays?
-
That's what she said too! Puns and aphorisms aside, this is a problem during the ToT season. The rest of the year less so but when we're checking out totty, usually in some sleazy motel, we keep getting this message; You cannot enter. OK OKAY? No very far from OK Because I'm already struggling to see what the hell is goiong on in my screen with all the FX and costume powers and names and stuffs... so now I've got even more distractions and where the fuck has my mouse pointer buggered off to anyhow? Sometimes that's the biggest issue. It becomes almost a divination ritual just to see where the little spear that shows what I'm meant to be looking at is, so clicking the OK button is now an actually significant challenge. Not the least of which is because some arse of a Supatroll has just barged me out of the way as well. I know I can't get into most doors but it would be lovely if these messages autofaded. I don't know if that's doable but it would be a great help.

Regarding This Triple XP Business...
Scarlet Shocker replied to Bill Z Bubba's topic in General Discussion
I don't usually advocate for XP boosts but this is the perfect opportunity to get some levels on toons that languish for a range or reasons. So yeah, Thanks Devs! Sincerly! 👍 (Sidenote: Should we thanking the shit host for being so shit that we get a reward because our Devs are brill?) -
Shard-Wide Double XP vs pre-existing accelerated XP
Scarlet Shocker replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
You haven't told us how you feel about this, so as spectators it's very difficult to answer. If you usually only take the smallest available boost of 25% XP, that indicates to me at least that zipping through levels as fast as you wish isn't a priority, so perhaps cancelling it might be a good option while DXP is available. You could also disable XP periodically so you get your full Inf allotment. Ultimately it's up to you and your feels, because you're playing your game in this. -
Billy Clubs/Batons for a weapon option.
Scarlet Shocker replied to StriderIV's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I wonder if that's because DB is lethal damage and batons/cudgels etc are smashing? Perhaps it would require a different power set, repurposing the animations from DB. I'm thinking out loud here a bit Several decades ago I played an AD&D DarkSun campaign where I had a female warror who used +2 Singing Sticks which were effectively two batons that made a noise as you moved them through the air - that was a lot of fun and a great image. I'd love to recreate something like her here. -
Chance for build up proc in a buildup power?
Scarlet Shocker replied to cohRock's topic in General Discussion
what is the % chance of a proc firing and is there a way to divine/know this? -
I've used both previously, but frankly as individual powers they don't offer enough for me to take them. There are better pool powers that serve my characters!

Billy Clubs/Batons for a weapon option.
Scarlet Shocker replied to StriderIV's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
I like this idea but it needs to be in the Suggestions forum.
