  1. I love a maniacally difficult project. But you may be overthinking this. Especially on a Brute. I regularly (once a year?) take a Brute from 1-50 doing EVERY Redside contact, every story arc, every side mission. Stopping experience to do so. This "Levelling character" has access to far fewer enhancement slots than an exemplared character. Power is not even a vague issue. Okay, I do remember hunting Slag Golems at 20 on Sharkhead with a SS/Will Brute on live. ooof, I should have used temps now that I look back. My builds I keep (maybe 8?) are all purpled, winterized, PvP i/o, procs globals, pimp'd out builds. They laugh at any content when exemplared, even if I go help someone who has dialed up +4/x8 and cannot complete what they created. (has happened, very rare) I do eat more inspirations there. So, last point. Your inspiration tray. Does not go away when exemplared down. Gives you access to what any 10-30th level would think of as game changing amounts of power. Definitely chase the fun stuff. If this is what you find amusing then you are on the right track. But just pointing out you have a LOT of overhead clearance.
  2. Globals Set-Like Special IOs The first type of special IO is a "Global". A global grants a constant benefit like a Set Bonus does. In fact, a Global IO grants you a set bonus that requires only itself. Thus all the rules (still works in grayed-out powers, stops working if you exemplar more than 3 levels below the enhancements level, the "Law of Fives") for set bonuses also apply to Globals. So, for example, a level 20 Karma Knockback Protection Global slotted in a level 49 power will still work if the character is exemplared to level 17 and the level 49 power is greyed out. But Karma's Knockback Protection will stop working when exemplared to level 16 – more than three levels under the Special IO itself. If that level 20 Karma was put into Hover which was picked up at level 6, then the Karma would still stop working if exemplared to level 16, even though Hover is still working. There are two (currently, maybe more to come) Global PvP Special IOs that are excepted from the under-exemplaring rule. If it's a PvP Special IO, it will never turn off from exemplaring. Procs All the other Special IOs are called 'Procs.' Unlike the Globals, Procs depend on the power they are slotted in to be activated in order to work. If the power isn't activated, then no benefit from the Proc. Consequently, exemplaring lower than the level of the power means the power is greyed out and can't be used (even passive powers follow that rule), which means the Proc won't work. However, the upside of Procs is that if the power is active, the Proc always work, even if you exemplar way below the level of the Proc. Procs don't follow the -3 level rule that Globals and Set Bonuses do.
  3. actually it does not look like a lantern. I do like Mister Mass' suggestion about fissionable material.
  4. Many designs in Paragon City have deeper meanings to them based on Lore. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a meaning to Chest Detail, Symbols, Symbol 10? It is a round shape with three bars atop it, the outer two bars bending outwards like parentheses. or do does this symbol have a non paragon meaning? Thanks
  5. Here is my original main from Homecoming. This build was made by Hyperstrike. It is so smooth I still have it complete and unbroken ready to roll. It is definitely not the fastest. It IS insanely powerful. 6. Stone cold fact
  7. I have a Dark Armor Tank with resistances capped to everything but toxic. only 74% there. (pre incarnate...) and it flies. in combat. all the time. I could probably rework my Dark / Dark Brute (my main) to cap them all, but he is seriously really Tanky as is. I do not want to sacrifice anything to chase (?how much?) survivability increase.
  8. I had long forgotten the contact. That is not how my mind organizes things. So thank you. I may need to run a few errands for Krylov until he spits out the good mission!
  9. Different mission, but it is kind of where this whole idea came from. I just soloed every arc Redside on my main. The mission where I kidnapped and dropped off living Paragon citizens with the Vahzilok....it was....just something that stayed with me. So, I was like....What if I had a character that lived for those arcs? And here we go....
  10. Having moved on from Character Generation (I picked a Grav/Dark Dominator) I am now seeking reminders of the sickest story arcs Redside. I will not be doing every Redside arc. In fact I will be avoiding some deliberately. I am not creating an errand boy or even a supervillain. This is the kind of character who seeks out missions where you kidnap Paragon citizens to deliver then (alive) to the Vahzilok for organ harvesting. Just to hear them scream. I mean sure, getting paid is okay, but there has to be something more to life. Right? So, please refresh my memory. I have had some good suggestions from my original thread. "Peter Themari's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge arc. Cap au Diable. Level 10 to 15. Failing the final mission intentionally is more evil than succeeding." "Westin Phipps...torture, crushing peoples spirits, tasty..." "Johnny Sonata's arc starts of with you kidnapping someone so he can force himself on her. It ends with something that can be either hollowing or satisfying, depending on your character's stake in the matter. " "Jezebel Jones' arc, which is about kidnapping a woman for Johnny Sonata." THese are some of the suggestions I have so far. Really appreciate them. I look forward to getting my evil on.
  11. I do see your point. However, there are serious points for style here. Corruptor is evil sounded, Defender ain't. Hard break. But I still wont run a corruptor (for this project or at all) due to the fact that I dont heal/buff. For the meta-game Ultra Mega Team there is nothing more powerful than a Fulcrum Shifted team. (is there?) Yet it is not a job I feel called to do, no matter how fun getting other people to kill other people is. I like good old fashioned down to earth killing people myself.
  12. i think you've been burned.
  13. THis is my main. A Dark/Dark Brute. Can Tank the Psi heavy Incarnate Trials, rarely even hitting heal. With a little more work (healing often, Insp mgt) can Tank anything else, including ANY damage type farm. Not the fastest. But very powerful. I have a Tank version of the build (with taunt) that hits 90% resist to everything but toxic. Dark/Dark is mean if you invest in it. 14. I just think of the SNL skit where Hawkeye runs out of arrows...
  15. THere are some costume pieces that are truly game changers. I have really enjoyed the floating skulls and new robot outfits. The Brain in a Jar....OMFG. Its a philosophy piece, a classic horror scifi piece, a thousand possibilities....and is currently stuck atop my main. Not everything gets that much love from me, but there are definitely pieces I shoehorn onto old concepts from each wave of offerings. One piece from any set tacked onto another can change everything. I swear I must get as excited about this stuff as designers do at fashion shows.
  16. In a Champions campaign (overt the table books/dice) I was part of for years one of the major NPCs was "The Weatherman" Whose alter ego, was ...the weatherman at a local TV station. An alternate version of Los Angeles called Sprawl City. And man did the weather get crazy there some days....
  17. I have run Energy Blast at 50 back on live about as much as I ran any squishy. I learned to play some pool and "kill what you KB" THis character devolves a bit away from my normal powergamer "what is strongest" requirement. That is part of the fun of running it. I will be soloing a lot on this squishy. I almost always (99.8%?) team on a squishy. (except for things like opening ouro, vanguard, and patron arc.) I have run a Grav Dom back on live. Last week I speed levelled this combo and did a few TFs. But now I want a slow 1-50 journey and dig into the best uses of Grav. I will be running a true villain and will have the villain alignment power to help patch non perma-dom. Getting accurate and artful with wormhole and dimension shift will be a part of the goal here. Hopefully fun too. I run a LOT of dark tanks (and a fun incarnated Dark/Psi Blaster) so Dark and Soul are comfort sets for me. That also really fill out my villain dance card. But yeah, as much as this is a journey into exploring the evilest Redside story arcs it is a dive into soloing on the Grav powerset.
  18. I went with a Dominator: Grav/Dark. Will be slowly running through lowbie arcs, maybe knock out some serious work this weekend. Right now getting my 4 DFBs for the bonuses. Then will use Null to alignment switch and set countdown for Villain Alignment power. Stopping Exp at 4. I am thinking Kuzmin and Weber are the first two contacts that interest me as far as being evil. Kalinda is too political and Burke is the flipside of that same coin.
  19. bumped thid up because i have restarted a new toon at level 1 to solo some Redside arcs. one major question i have is on a Grav Dark is not taking Crush a good idea. It looks like it is easily skippable. I have not truly set up the build yet, but these are the powers I want. For thematic reasons. I really want Phase Shift as well. And maybe a half dozen other utility powers lol. But, having to pick these would be my priority. Before I start trying to figure how to Perma it can someone tell me if the power choices themselves are bonkers, or maybe okay? 20. i think the issue is Doms are built to do a completely different job then massive ST fights. its like trying to find the best tank to go drag racing in. there are going to be serious issues, even if you make it to the end of the strip.
  21. I am pretty crappy at Doms. Back on live Fire/Psi was a huge favorite. Not sure if that was "Farmers Helpers" or AV killers. Any Pylon DPS threads may have more info. The other issue is...survival. I do not know how to do it. Holds will be worth squat, so that is most of the front half of the toolbox.
  22. Lets start with the basics. trying to get a robe on a male figure. This is seriously a ground ball rolling very slowly. there are not many good fake workarounds. There are no 'good' fake workarounds. Its CoT, or some strange warrior belt overlaid on a kilt, which starts to look like a very puffy dress from gone with the wind. at the other end. No legs. Just wispy ghost like trailing aura, maybe a robot base/platform that floats instead of walks. And skeletons. We are so close. skeletal robot arms. where are the skeletal skeletal arms? What about skeletal legs? Okay....I see some of these are reach goals. About that lower body robe option on a male figure....
  23. I have been thinking about this all day. I am leaning towards Dominator. The Villain Alignment powers is just sweet on them and Brutes. Since I will be soloing mostly and not high end build until many gaming sessions in (no perma...) this would be very nice. In my mind I am trying to keep an open mind as to what exactly type of Dom it will be. Part of the fun of this experiment is it shakes up my "requirement for character" that lead me into "most armored" "most ranged" etc and pigeonhole me into the same builds year after year. This type of "writing assignment" allows me freedom to follow the character and not the numbers. Your signature tag line adds a lot of weight to choosing Doms. Thanks. Now, so many choices. Off to the Dom page for research. For the other part of this assignment I am starting to make notes of the suggested story arcs and plan the levelling experience. It wont be very fast, prob still faster than Praetoria lol. But it will be drenched in treachery and blood.
  24. I am tempted to use this somehow. If nothing else I might be able to shoehorn it in as his pre "super....errr powered bad guy" life.
  25. I just incarnated a Dark/Mental/Soul. Really enjoying it. The thing has three "Attack modes" that I tend to fall into. Well, there is the fourth of being overwhelmed and shooting wildly. But let's discuss the ones I try to follow. First, Jousting. Jump in for Drain Psyche, PBAoE nukes (incarnate is PBAoE as well) and PBAoE stun. Second is long range ST punching. Dark has a nice ST chain. I gimp it slightly by enhancing my hold for Hold. I like the set bonuses and I like having an ST hold. Third is Cones. There are 5! I open with Umbral Torrent, 6 slotted with Overwhelming Force. It is the longest range and its nice to drop them on their backs first thing. Psychic Scream has Sup. Defiant Barrage and Tenebrous Tentacles has Artillery. Night Fall has Sup. Frozen Blast and Soul Tentacles is another set of Artillery. I was doing fire support on a farm to open up Hybrid and was not unhappy with the cone carnage. Of course Nukes rule the day against big mobs, but jousting back or hovering up and unleashing an endless wave of cones is satisfying. I am using Spectral Radial Interface so a 75% chance of minor neg DoT on each mob. Just keep hosing them down. Against hard targets (bosses, EBs) I had to switch back to ST at the end of the big mobs. Am I right in thinking that due to the tohit debuffs and DoT it is actually a decent strategy to just keep cone pressure up on big mobs or should I really be ST plinking right from the start?
