So I was on a TF yesterday and a teammate kept insisting that Siphon Power only affects the caster, despite the obvious icon on every teammate next to me when I cast it (and possibly next to my target? I wasn't able to determine that, things were going too fast)

As far as I know Fulcrum Shift is like running Siphon power of a group of targets simultaneously no?

Once you get FS, do you keep using SP much? I assume they stack with each other and so does the -dmg, and SP is up more often, so maybe spam it in between FS applications?

SP creates a buff that emanates from the caster.  It will affect you and nearby teammates.

FS has 2 notable parts:

1) pseudopet(s?) that affect multiple enemies within a radius of the target.  This debuffs each one that it hits (it has a to-hit check) and creates a siphon power buff emanating from each enemy and buffing allies within radius of the buff.

2) an auto-hit buff emanating from the caster and buffing allies close by.

To your last paragraph, I see a lot of advice on the forums for kins to drop SP when they have FS but I don't share that view.

  • Better at debuffing hard targets due to spamability (word?).
  • When AV fights come down to just the boss, this will provide a significant source of +DMG (again due to spamability).
  • Works as a 1 slot wonder.
  • Available for all tfs when exemping.

Siphon power absolutely affects the whole team (well the people next to the target and the people next to you).

I do not use siphon power much after getting fulcrum shift because fulcrum shift will cap the teams damage in 1-2 uses depending on the AT. I do use it still however on AVs, GMs, and EBs.

Fulcrum Shift is the AoE version of Siphon Power.  Why is it so hard to comprehend that you can use both?

In the end it's just better to have both. You end up only using it on AVs and GM's, but it does make a significant difference during those fights. So take it, you most likely have the power choice.

One of your teammates? Isn't that why you started this thread?

Yes, take Siphon Power. Yes, use it often. Try to stand near some allies when you use it, because the buff radiates from you.

The thread was not as much about being able to use both as the fact the SP doesn't only affect the caster as my teammate was claiming.

It's a relatively cheap and fast power to cast so I find myself using it along with FS without worrying too much whether everyone is already at Max boost or not. Teammates don't always seem to realize that by not engaging with the rest of the group they may be missing out, so they may at least get the mini buffs from later SPs.

meh, was in a 50 4+8 in my kin defender, went 12 to 24.  Spammed the hell out of Siphon, Transfusion, and Siphon speed I was pretty much non-stop while spamming ice attacks.  Doesn't help that there was like 3 MM on the team, buffing all the pet damage/recharge/endurance and minor +resist/status protection....was cutting through stuff like a knife through smoke.

i do drop Siphon Power when I get Fulcrum Shift.  But I miss it, terribly.  I don't drop it because I think it's useless. I drop it because on Mind/Kin, it's Very hard to skip enough primary and secondary powers to fit in pool powers that I want... and I *still* don't have all of them, even at 50.  It's just a question of what's the least bad choice.

You get 24 power picks between Levels 1-49 (and one of them is the mandatory tier 1 in your secondary).

If you take 9 picks from your primary and secondary ... that leaves only 6 pool/epic power picks to choose from.

So yeah, the power picks "crunch" can be real for some powerset combinations.

I always find that power selection is tight on just about any build I make. I'm always trying to maximize things and so power selection and slots are always scarce.
