[Request] Katana/Regen build

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, thanks for taking the time to stop by.... I have lost all my old builds (new pc) and my memory is terrible and i was wondering if anyone had a decent PvE or PvP build for a katana/Regen scrapper to share? i have tried to remember my build but i seem to have forgotten how to build heroes as i fail miserably every time with it >.< Thanks again :)

I vaguely remember a Scrapper forum group-effort Katana/Regen PvE build that was the best one I'd ever seen. Better than the build I was running around with, certainly. I think it was a group effort, anyway. I think I contributed at least a little to it.

I'm not sure I saved any of my Mids files, though. I can't find them, but I can't remember what extension they saved as, so maybe they're somewhere not obvious. I assume there's some archive of the old forums somewhere. That build must be somewhere.

It used top dollar IOs, though. I assume those won't be readily available for a long time. Well, I suppose they were never readily available. It took a lot of work to be able to afford builds like that. Well, if you consider it work. I never thought of the game as work.

If you're willing to put in the effort to get enough merits, the recipes are readily available, and Ouroboros gives you a way to go back and grind arcs solo for merits when you get tired of running TFs.

Well, there is this thread.  And this one.  And this, if someone's gonna insist on a purely topical response.  ...also...

The file extension for Mids is .mxd.

If I remember correctly, the idea behind this build was A) to get to 45% Melee Defense with one application of Divine Avalanche, B) to build in as much resistance as possible, and C)  to amp up regen and get a lot of recharge so that you can keep your click powers recharging.  Shadow Meld is yet another click power that can give you a few seconds of massive defenses.  Rune of Protection is also a click power that boosts your resistance quite a bit.

Anyway, something I came up with for my old scrapper Mouse Police.

I certainly no longer have the ability to eyeball a build for quality, but this looks like my most recent plan for my namesake Katana/Regen, though I never actually built it. I see Elegost's name associated with it, and it appears to have a PvE "Wernerscore" of 6363. That's pretty extreme for a Scrapper. This might have been the build I'm thinking of. Or maybe not. For comparison, Alexei, my Katana/Dark, seems to have had a Wernerscore of 6654, and I think he had the highest Scrapper number I'd ever seen. But I'm looking through old folders and documents and I could easily be confused about what I'm seeing.

The Wernerscore was essentially a rating of the average enemy output DPS you could survive indefinitely under ideal circumstances. It was named that on the old Scrapper forum since it was from a spreadsheet I mostly came up with. I think I remember Arcanaville saying something like "No Scrapper can handle more than 1000 DPS", and I replied something like "Soft-capped Katana/Dark", and she was like "OK, that, but only on paper because it's all tied up in hitting your heal at just the right time surrounded by just the right enemies", which I can't argue with. Similarly, Katana/Regen's high survivability number is just on paper, because it's all tied up in hitting 317 different click powers all at the right time during the pressure of combat. Maybe it wasn't 317 different click powers. My memory is poor.

Speaking of poor memory, didn't they fix the bug that made Hamio Enzymes buff defense powers? I've got some Enzymes in this build. It might not be viable in the current game.

So I’ve been out for about 10 years now but....what happened to getting SS or SJ or the main mobility powers? Obsolete now?

In the current game, you can buy hours of jet pack time, endlessly rechargeable. So that's my travel power on most characters. But even in the old game, I would often skip a travel power and make do with Combat Jumping or Hover, as there was often something I wanted more than being able to travel more quickly.

I don;t take travel powers I rely on sprint always on and combat jumping or hover and for in between missions ninja run/athletic, steam jump ad temp travel powers like packs

I look at all these builds and I see little to no slow resistance.

For a power set whose survival depends on clicks with long recharge, slow resistance is going to be glaring hole. And there is enough content that applies slow that makes this hole worth patching up. Even lol council galaxys have slow, as well as most psi attacks, and you'll have a real good time taking these builds up against animus arcanus with their ice storms and times junctures.

As discussed in various other regen threads. You are squandering resources by building for passive regen. The cornerstones of regen survival are:

1 - defense

2 - recharge

3 - slow resist.

4 - active mitigation

If I were to follow the softcap melee def with 1 divine avalanche build path this is what I would do.

You need Mid's Reborn properly installed so that its able to be called by the data link. Keep in mind you are necroing a pretty old thread as well, these builds are all build with outdated Mids which shouldn't be a problem but should keep it in mind.

If you're willing to put in the effort to get enough merits, the recipes are readily available, and Ouroboros gives you a way to go back and grind arcs solo for merits when you get tired of running TFs.

Can you please explain this? How many merits, how do i do it?

Go to the pillar in Ouroboros, view all the story arcs you can choose (Can only access the ones appropriate or lower to your level). Select one, complete it, get reward merits. The good thing is reward merits from completed Ouro arcs aren't subject to diminishing return. So you can redo it again and get the same amount of merits (Unlike TF/SFs).

GM Kal put together a spreadsheet (Link below) with Ouro arcs and merit rewards. Can pick and choose which would be the best bang for your buck. Once you find a good one, memorize the maps, get comfortable stealthing what you can, finish it as quickly as possible and repeat. Some players were saying they earn an average of 2 or 3 merits per minute doing this. So they can trade for a purple recipe of their choice within an hour.

Not sure. I only do the few Ouro arcs that help get accolades. Rescue the Mystic, Hydra Dimension, Black Shroud Dimension, Tina Macintyre and Maria Jenkins arcs.
