Time/Sonic builds?

Doc Ranger

Recommended Posts

After hating on the Time sounds and swirly animations for so long...I have to decided to take the plunge and actually make one.

Having played one for a bit on a Grav Controller I am going to give it another go on a Defender and try it with another set I have never played...Sonic Blast.

Any build floating around in the multiverse you guys might be willing to share so I can tinker with it?

Here is a start...I might start with this and see where it goes. Going for more set bonuses than pure Proc destruction at this point. I might try the Proc route after I get him up in levels. Critiques are welcome 😉 Be gentle...it's my first time.

Here's my thread that asked the same question, and I went with Stratonexus build suggestion.  While still a few LoTG-G Recharges short, it proved it's worth when the battle with Romulus (ITF) went south on us . While thick in the mobs,  I was able to keep the core of the group up and fighting and still throwing some sonic attacks Romulus's way to help.

Been trying to think of an Team friendly AV killer Defender now that my Warshade is pretty much done and this sounds interesting.

Especially since I read it walking to work this morning and thought of a concept (90s Troll rave DJ who woke one afternoon after an all-nighter with control over loops and beats after taking something he shouldn't have). I went more down the proc path at the expense of some Def (*think* they're still softcapped but not sure) and resistance, and Leadership over Fighting.

So I'm at 41 and currently trying to access the Villain Epic pool.

But I must say I am WAY underwhelmed by Screech. For a 35 power it does almost no damage and the Disorient doesn't affect powerful opponents.

I am really used to cones from my Dk/Dk troller so I am enjoying Howl and Shockwave (with some procs). I think I am going to swap out Screech with Siren's Song. At least I'll have another cone with dmg.

Dont think of Screech as a damage power. It's basically a resistance debuff power that can take damage procs. I don't know your playstyle, but if you are going for an AV killer or some sort of single target optimal attack chain, you'll only get it with Screech. But you probably won't appreciate it until you hit lvl 50.

My problem is I have been classically trained in the school of Controlling 😉 I like to be in the mix and I like to affect mobs. With Time being my primary, it lends itself to aoe effects as well. So I'm not really going for AV killer because I will never be trying to solo big bosses etc. I am a team player first and a solo player when absolutely necessary...like right now I'm doing this villain arc.

When I said AV killer, I wasn't saying to solo an AV. I meant the debuff from Screech will help you achieve attack chains that can apply on average 90-100% resistance debuff on a single target. So you effectively boost your teams damage by 90-100%.

That said, Sirens song is great too. I can't remember if proc damage from Sirens Song would negate the sleep effect, but if not, you can create a fun cone attack chain where you knock down baddies, debuff their resistance, then put them to sleep. And just cycle that.

I haven't tried it yet...but the Mid's description says Minor Dmg, Foe Sleep. So dmg is built into the power apparently?

I like that I'm boosting the team's damage, but it's not something I can physically see or measure during play. But with Time, I can see the effects and benefits immediately.

One more thing...Is Soul Drain worth taking? I was definitely going to take Dark Embrace and Power Boost. I know what those do...but Soul Drain I have no idea.

Glad to have you back Bopper...your help has been immeasurable in this little journey.

It does. The upside is that it can take damage procs, but the down side is you can't stack the sleep because the damage will effectively wake them before putting them back to sleep. My intrigue is whether or not damage procs would immediately wake the enemy you just put to sleep. If so, them that sucks. If you try it out, let me know how it works.

If you can fit it in your build, then sure. I load it with procs and treat it at a mini nuke (long recharge, but small radius). All your procs will have 90% chance to hit, plus if you have enough enemies near you, you can boost yourself quite a bit. But honestly, the radius is so small that you will be disappointed more than you'd like. So if you take it, itll be because it's a luxury slot. I wouldn't scrap something else for it.

Thanks. It's been a long time since I've played, but I still like checking in on the forums and seeing what's new.

Siren's Song does do the proc damage first then the mob goes to sleep. So I like it 😉

Time/* is probably the most flexible defender to build due to how easy it is to reach recharge and defense goals. You can go for different tank/utility/damage routes without really missing out on a lot.

My favored route is Sorcery for the Spirit Ward/Rune of Protection utility due to the recharge levels you can reach and Spirit Ward adding range to your support package.
