Elec / Kin

I have been levelling an Elec/Kin  corruptor and I'm surprised at the lack of builds out there.  I'm a new player (back from the old days) and I'm struggling through learning the new incarnate system etc.  Do any of the experienced players out there have a decent Elec/Kin build I could take a look at in mids?  I find it helpful for breaking things down.

So glad to be back!

I don't want to give the illusion that all homecoming players are min/maxers or anything, but there's a couple possible reasons you may not be finding many builds: One, Elec isn't a top-tier set; Two, Elec/Kin is a sapping combo, which... doesn't work in PvE. You can drain a baddie down to nothing, and a half second later they'll get a spike of endurance and be able to shoot. It's a good soft control in PvP, but for most other content, folks have found it's not worth pursuing.

Hopefully someone else comes through for ya, good luck!

I try to avoid making builds for people and instead help them make their own builds.

That said Kinetics is a powerset that is honestly rather cheap to IO at least the Kinetics part as neither siphon power or fulcrum shift actually allow set IO's as all.

Note that slow enhancements in siphon speed will actually increase your speed as well.

Repel can be fun proc slotted for Sudden Acceleration and Forced Feedback, the issue is though, you want everyone in melee range of you, so if you take repel make sure you at least use a KB to KD proc, as repel uses knockback and not actually repel like is used with force Fields and hurricane despite the power name.

Kinetics typically plays best in Melee, and since you'll be using Short Circuit as your main sap, it's a pbaoe as welo, you'll be best served looking to bolster melee defense as a primary if you're working on positional defense. Typed defenses may be easier to come by though given ancillary and patron powers.

Since you're going to be up front, it might be beneficial to look give psi mastery a serious look for mass hypnosis as an opener before fulcrum shift and short circuits. Also you could exploit TK pinning a target in a corner and refilling with transference. Otherwise Black Scorpion has an AoE Imob and it's signature lethal, smashing and energy defense armor.

As someone else already pointed out Elec blast is not a top tier blast set for damage, but your secondary allows you to reasonably give more slots to your primary which gives you better opportunity to proc slot damage procs into attacks.

If you do that, don't slot heavily for recharge in your individual damage powers, as it can hamper your chance to proc, instead keep siphon speed double stacked, and perhaps Adrenal Booster for a hybrid Hasten/Buildup.

Also for your hybrid you'll want Clarion for mez protection, but also a boost to your saps.

More on Sapping in general, yes when a player gets sapped they have a hard time as our powers are balanced around endurance. A lot of NPC mobs that isn't exactly the case as some of their attacks only require a miniscule amount of endurance to use. So sapping endurance in conjunction with applying -recovery can be fairly effective. The only attacks with -recovery you'll have reasonable access to are Short Circuit and Thunderous Blast. That said Short Circuit recharges fast enough it's easy to keep a group floored of endurance, and yes you can sap an AV, or even a monster. Typically a lot of mobs heavier attacks require more of their endurance than their lighter attacks, so sapping mobs can significantly reduce the incoming damage to yourself and your team.

Use Mids and plan out something that you think will work for you, hop on the test server, use the free IOs and give it a whirl. If it works make it on live.

Goodluck.

Hmm, that's some food for thought.  Elec/Kin was a lot more effective when I was playing on the original servers.  It isn't my goal to be playing top tier, but something competitive would be nice.  I'll go and experiment with some different combinations on test and see what works.  Thanks again.

In fairness, elec/kin gets enough -recovery that they can in fact lock down opponents via sapping.  Not utterly completely, but you can get good extensive mitigation through sapping.  However, you still take alpha, and it's not fast enough for teaming.

I played an elec/kin on live, but the world was very different then.

Multiple reasons, first i love it, second it slots a zephyr kb so i get 12 points in the build and you want at least 10 in stuff with 0 kb protection, third when you speed run tf's hitting siphon speed on an enemy slows you down and i used to run with a team on live that went for record breaking runs so i got used to taking ss in every build. Siphon speed can miss occasionally too leaving you wandering about at walk pace while the team flies ahead of you-at some point in time every power that requires an acc check will miss, you just may not notice until you really really need it to hit...and that 12 seconds is soooo long in game time.

So glad to be back!

I have a post 50 Elec/Kin corr. I still have a lot of work to with her, and my build is far from optimized. I'm leveraging rune of protection along with force of nature and barrier to really get in close and abuse kinetics. Even unoptimized the build is extremely effective. As stated before sapping really isn't all that effective, but it does stop or at least slow down some baddies. Elec as a set isn't the best, but I've always liked it, and the change to snipe powers really help it out. Overall I'd say that playing her has been easier than playing my sentinels, and they have native defenses.

Corruptor and Kinetic.  Two birds.  One stone.  I finally have my 'last' project to L50.  I wanted a Kin.  I wanted a Corruptor.  I have two in one.

Not a cheap build out, either.  Put in some -res to slow sets and Winter's Gift.

I've managed in combat to hit the 400% dam cap.  I've managed to have recharge in excess of 250%.

I can drain the life out of mobs to the point where the aggro' suddenly goes very quiet.  The transference power is very powerful.

I'm one luck away from capping the positions and smashing.  (Not melee, ofc.)

You have to rev' the engine on this thing to get it going.  (Where you may spend more time pressing debuffs to ramp up your offensive capabilities.)

Some may wonder, why not just play an elec/elec blaster.  And that is a debate.  (I do have an elec elec blaster...)

The revelation for me to make kinetics work (after a few attempts) was to be a 'hover' Kin' so no worries about  knbk interrupting the debuff process which you have to spend more time in melee for the heal and end drain.  So less stepping in and out of combat...

...as I have Repel deployed to great effect.

Azrael.

Me neither. 😛

Plenty to see here.

If someone wants to try a kinetic, a corruptor and fancies the 'new' (revamped) elec set, they can try it with aspiration.

I'm not a numbers expert.  But to get to a place where you can hit 400% damage and circa 300% recharge is pretty good going.

You do get the capability to get a sound heal, a turbo recharge when stacked with Hasten, a great end return power that can dampen down a noisy mob and the 'almighty' Damage buff of Fulcrum Shift.  You can progressively stack and rack these buffs/debuffs as you fight your way through a map.  It can be quite compelling.

Kinetics can be tricky to play.  But using hover-kin changed the way I approached things.  And the new elec patch is a good fit with it.

Elec is not all conquering fire.  The damage can be a bit scratchy on the way up.  But you can with Fulcrum Shift ramp it up.

For the curious?  Worth a try.

Azrael.

Update.  +4x8 Council np.  I think I like the mitigation the Corr' has over the duration of a fight.  You gradually strip them of end to fight.  You can hold them.  You can AoE them.  Snipe them.  Nova them.  Gradually ramp up your speed and damage where you're increasingly difficult to deal with.  And Repel has been a revelation as has Hover-Kin'.  It's much easier than trying to run around and in and out of combat applying Kin' buffs.  Being a pervasive presence over the mobs is harder for them to deal with you and it's easier to see combat overall strategically with a bird's eye view.

PPS.  I haven't tried this on AVs.  I imagine that a Kin/Defender may be more the deal for that.  But for trash mobs?  This elec/kin Corr hoovers things up very efficiently and takes apart bosses np.  If you're addicted to pressing buttons and seeing your alt get progressively more powerful as it goes from mob to mob?  This is for you.
