Bots/Dark was my first level 50 villain after CoV was released. It was a blast to play - even with just SOs. Unfortunately, that build was lost during shutdown. I never upgraded that alt with IOs and incarnates. With what you posted here and what I learned from my Robotics/Storm build, I've tried to recreate it.

A few notes on the build: I skipped Darkest Night and Black Hole. Darkest Night is a targeted AoE toggle - when the target is defeated, it turns off - it seems to be an endurance drain and didn't last very long unless it was on an elite boss or better. Add in a 10 sec recharge and it became a forgetful power. I also didn't like Black Hole (which you also skipped) - target is intangible and can't attack or be attacked.

I chose the Speed pool: I like Super Speed for it's Stealth component - combine it with Shadow Fall (level 18) and Celerity +Stealth (in Prestige Power Slide - the purple glow lets me know it's on), and you're invisible to almost everything. I added Hasten with 1 recharge so Assault Bot recharges a lot faster. To me, this makes it much better than the Flight pool (Hover and Fly) - although they also have their uses and I used on my first alt on CoV.

I chose Recall Friend from Teleportation at level 49 (although you could get it earlier - swap it with Howling Twilight at level 10 - or choose something else entirely) because of cave maps. I get tired of my bots falling through holes and getting attacked outside of my buffs - which causes my other bots to go after the attacker - they also leaving my buffs. Either that or they get stuck in the tunnels and I have to teleport them to get them unstuck.

When the defeated anchor despawns, it turns off. This is an important distinction. Put Darkest Night on a CoT spirit, and since they don't leave bodies when defeated, the toggle turns off the moment they go down. Put it on, say, an Earth Mage, and DN will stay up for a while after the anchor goes down, until the body vanishes. That said, there are a fair number of mobs that are 'bad' anchors -- the gem and rock types of DE, for example; since they have a chance to spawn the "mini-me" versions when they're defeated, the original anchor disappears immediately. Sky Raider Sky Skiffs blow up when defeated, as do the Council flying bots.

Darkest Night is a -Res and -ToHit, so dropping it on a mob will make it and his friends go down quicker and hit less, so it's more effective against EBs, AVs, Monsters, and GMs than it is on lieutenants or minions, as you observed, simply because the higher the 'grade' of anchor, the longer the AoE debuffs them and everything around them.

I am not one to usually correct posters, but it should be noted that Darkest Night does NOT do -RES it is -DMG, reduces damage potential of foes within its affect. This offers more protection from big damage numbers from hard targets - bosses, elites, archvillains/heroes or Giant Monsters. Darkest Night does have the -tohit benefit.

I would definitely recommend to not skip Darkest Night. It is a core power in the entire set. Certainly for reasons the above posters mentioned, as well as the fact that recharge can be down to about two seconds, making it easy to put back up very quickly should you toggle it off or the anchor despawns.

Has anyone tried the OP's build? Has OP tried it and if so how is it working? I am kind of a noob without a lot of inf so i can't afford to test things out.

I played this basic character on Live, and had a blast with it - even with just SOs and no Incarnate abilities (this was soon after CoV was released, so those weren't available). I haven't tried it with all these IOs. I also took Darkest Night on live. As noted, it works best on EBs or better - but it can also cause aggro on mobs if that EB or better runs away near other mobs. To me, I didn't like that it seemed more of a situational power and an endurance hog rather than a character defining power, which is why I skipped it in this build.

I am playing this build, and it's not as fun as it was when MMs were a new class and the choice of primaries/secondaries were a lot lower. One thing I'm seeing now that would occasionally affect me is mass holds - both the MM and the pets have little/no resistance to it, so I need to carry lots of break frees for myself and my pets. Of course, the To Hit Debuff effects are a pretty good protection.

Something to look at I've been running this a while now its fine as long as you can web envelope mobs for the big bot to burn down, easiest way to do this is to use darkest night to herd mobs to where you want them drop the tar patch then fearsome stare and immob. The only problem i've had is the damage output is nothing compared to Thugs/dark so i stopped paying this in favour of the thugs:

Nice build Meknomancer. Bots/Dark is definitely a classic. Like you, I've moved away from Bots because of single target damage and the long pauses at times between attacks. That said, they are solid as a pet set, just no longer top tier IMO. I do like the -regen in Big Bot, however, and it does make their single target damage vs. EB, AV and GMs pretty good as they neuter regen. Bots is definitely a 'bursty' damage for its AOE. When the fire patches spread and things die quickly, its glorious, but it is not a steady state. Kind of like Thugs' arsonist, but a whole set.

I have a level 28 Bots/Dark, and am conisidering dumping Darkest Night and *maybe* Howling Twilight with one of the free respecs I have. I rarely bother using DN because the Dark powerset is already enough of an endurance hog. And I do not group enough on him for HT to even be worth having. I just know I'm taking either Charge or Heat Mastery when he hits 35. Haven't decided which yet. (I also have a Mercs/Traps/Field MM.)

Howling Twilight does not need a team to be useful; its debuffs are plenty useful on their own and the power should be getting used regularly! It's an autohit stun to all mobs around your target that also provides a hefty amount of -regen (which I believe stacks with the big bot's -regen).

I primarily play on Everlasting, but you may occasionally find me on Indom. 🙂

Notable Characters: Apocolyptica - Demons/Storm MM; Lurking Monster - Human-Form WS; Environmentabot - Bots/Nature MM; Miss Fade - Ill/Traps Controller; Sister Apocalypse - Beast/Dark MM; Dr. Elaina Wrath - Plant/Rad Controller (Join the House of Wrath, and spread the word of science!); Ruff Ruff Boom - AR/Devices Blaster

Once you are properly slotted you should not be having any endurance issues. Feel free to post a build review. I would never consider getting rid of darkest night it may not see regular use when you get to higher levels but when you face a tough boss or arch villain you'll be glad you had it.

Both powers are incredible and centerpieces of the secondary. DN contains a -dam component (which is almost like resistance for you and your pets) and shouldn’t be skipped (like @Force Redux suggests), and - as @TygerDarkstormindicated - HT does amazing things. Rezzing teammates is a nice secondary effect. I cast it almost on cool down, especially solo.
