For missions, we can set our characters at +1, +2, ..., etc levels.  We also have the our character acts as is we are  2, 3, 4, etc heroes.

Should I just experiment with it or is there some reasoning to how to approach this?  level 48 SS/ICE brute.  I generally solo.

I went to Ouroboros all i got was this lousy secret!

If you have a lot of aoe, I generally increase number of enemies first.  If I have more single target damage, I increase the enemy level first.  Once I find content while levelling a bit easy, I might start at 0x3, and go from there.  My stalker was pretty good Single target damage, so he generally went up to +4x1, and then increased the number of enemies until his issue was endurance in longer fights.  You just have to figure out which is the most efficient for your AT.  Sometimes +2x2 is better than +0x4.  IT all depends how your Character performs.

I would think the two reasons to go up in difficulty are more challenge and/or more reward.  For the latter, you are going to get more bang for the buck in terms of xp, inf, and drops by increasing number of enemies first, then difficulty.  For the former, it's really up to you and your personal tastes.  You might want to plow through tons of easy enemies, or you might want to go toe-to-toe with a few tough ones.

For me, I set it at +1/x1 as soon as I make a new character, then I'll try to get to +1/x3 as soon as I get enough attacks.  By the time I have a brute at lvl 48, I'd probably be at +2-3/x5-8 if I were properly slotted.  I like to build my melee characters so they *can* solo mission play at max levels, but sometimes it gets tedious so I back off.  And when leading a team, I'll see what my teammates are up for.

Hope that helps!  Happy hunting!

So I upped it to 1x4. Wow, I forgot how much more xp you got.  Have used this system since back in retail.  Had to pop a few + but not too many.  Always seemed to have full insp.

Will try it a few more times then consider upping it to 1x5 or 1x6.

I've found my sweet spot to be:
+4x1/2 for single target high damage specialists

+1x8 for those with lots of AoEs and Nukes, but not so big on damage

+2x4 for most other toons

Those settings give me the most XP vs time when I solo and I try to get to those settings as early as the toon is able. Anything less feels too easy and slows down the levelling process, anything more becomes a bit too tedious for a daily grind. Every now and then I do dial it up to +3x8 if the toon has his/her incarnates or if I have time to burn.

Thanks,  I am doing radio missions to test.  Is that a good test?  I figure it is consistent vs door missions.  Also, when I get to 50, will the XP turn into influence?

Nope; that feature was removed in April.

You will continue to earn Experience for "Veteran Levels," which provide some minor benefits up to level 99, and then are just e-peen thereafter.  The amount of Inf earnt at that point doesn't change at all.

to clarify on what Vile said, turning off XP will longer gain double inf (in the same logic as double XP from P2W gain no inf). Once you reach 50 any double XP you bought is automatically discarded and you earn XP and inf at the default rate. your XP is used for vet levels. first you need xp to unlock each of the 6 incarnate slots. while you're doing that, you will still level up as you did pre-50. every 3rd vet level, you earn emp merits in diminishing returns:  you earn 20 emp merits when you ding vet level 3, 6, 9... until 21 (IIRC), then it goes down to 15 for the next few levels until vet level 42(?), 10 until 63(?), then 5, then emp merit drops stop when you hit vet level 99. (something like that... don't quote me on the vet levels when they change, I haven't touched my veterans in a while). Again, the entire time, you're also earning inf. an ITF run at +4x8 will bag you around 10mil pure inf, 15-17mil if you sell off the recipe and salvage drops.

So I hit a bank mission tonight at 1x4.   Lots of mu and tarantulas in there.  Made a mistake and pulled two extra groups.  Fighting three groups with many mu and tarantulas was a PITA but I survived thanks to the hibernate skill I just got at 49.  Don't want to do that often.

Mu and Tarantulas can be reasoned with if you talk to them nicely. It's the Widows and Fortunatas that tend to be "difficult" 😃

I just checked.  7.5% defense on psionic.

I have found that +2x4 is the sweet spot for most of my toons. A few of my builds I feel are slightly weaker so I go +1x4 (poison / archery defender...). And then a few of my toons are particularly strong and can usually handle the full +4x8. Arachnos I do not care to fight at full difficulty solo because the Blindness effect. It prolongs fights too long. Debuffing on Arachnos, Seers, Banished Pantheon can be problematic. Council is very easy, even on full difficulty. Which is why everyone likes to run Council on PI pickup groups.
