How do I make my blaster less squishy? Is there a list of pool powers and enchantments that are kind of standard?

 

I think I can make a blaster that is reasonable survivable in the new Homecoming world.

Since def and res slottable powers are in short supply for blasters, try to squeeze in set bonuses to shore up def/res. Also, some secondaries will be more def-friendly than others... like Ninja Training and Devices. Then again, you're a blaster--your best defence is a good offence. Kill them before they know what hit them. 😃

For Blasters I generally would get Hover(and/or Maneuvers)+Combat Jumping+Weave+Scorpion Shield

Then soft-cap either Ranged Defense(Hover Blaster) or S/L/E Defense("Comfortable In Melee" Blaster).

Slot the +Def IO's in Tough. 

 

This should go a long way in upping your Defense to whatever, and you still have a pool power to choose.

In addition to all the great suggestions above and going down the obvious route with powers and sets that provide Defense or Resistance.... Many don't think about mitigating incoming damage outright by using your crowd control powers:  holds, sleeps, stuns, KB/KDs, and etc.  Effective use and stacking of these powers can be more powerful and make your blaster extremely survivable.  My main and namesake (Frozen Burn) is an Ice/Fire/Fire blaster without leadership, without fighting pool, and lives and survives in melee with only 6-11% defenses and 10-50% resistances.  Most people would see the build in Mids and scoff and think "no way" but the crowd control + the damage output (especially the AOEs) make it one of my heartiest blasters.  

 

Playing a Blaster is all about using what you have at your disposal to dish out the damage and then survive (including using inspirations - many scoff at or discount using them too) ...and then yes, leveraging power choices, pool powers, and epics - and even incarnates, to round out your build.

Here is a Elec/Temp Blaster (that i think) pushes Blaster survivability as far as it can go.  Surpassing Sentinels even, again, in my opinion.  This is achieved by being VERY (only...) far ranged and using high ranged defense.  But wait, there's more.  This build has Phase Shift.  A power from the Invisibility pool that grants you 30 seconds of complete safety.  Wait, there's more.  This build has Personal Force Field from Force Mastery, granting insanely high Defense.  Granted, like with Phase Shift, you cannot affect anything.  But...very safe.  Wait, there's more.  This build has Force of Nature, from the Force Mastery pool.  When activated all Resistances except Psi are increased 35% and your End recovery is way increased.  The build has 45% S/L resistance through set bonuses.  

 

The build does NOT do the damage of a Fire/Fire Blaster in Melee range.  But if you can die while playing this build as designed you are in some deep crapola....
