I don't want the Granite Armor look. I want to be original and RP the look.

I would not mind an alternate style Granite Armor with maybe some granite shreds, but I am stopped by the look of the Stone Armor final power. I may continue the toon, but shelving it for now since the other armors don't work well enough.

There is barely a benefit in using Granite Armor these days. In terms of numbers the other armor toggles will make you near impervious without using Granite.

This happened to me on live with my first (last ) stone Brute.  I had this great look I was happy, really happy with.  Then had to shit can the entire thing and walk around in this weird skin.  Lasted an hour.  Never played it again

This. Stone Armor does not need Granite. Hell, I have a long-time friend who never used Granite back on Live for their Stone Armor Tank, and utilizes the same build now on HC now that the character got remade. One of the top tier tanks in our group who deliberately never used the Tier 9 (and would out-tank players that did, when called on it).

 

Between IO builds, Incarnate abilities, and various power buffs, Tier 9s for armor sets became mostly useless a long time ago. Which is a shame, because they ought to actually be viable options given their place as 'The Capstone Power' for their set.

I haven't made a stone armor brute, but play in on a Tanker that I think is more survivable outside of granite armor than in it solo. I also play a stone armor stalker.

 

With the revisions to stone armor over the last year or so, it's pretty easy to make a very resilient toon without relying on granite. My tanker has it just for nostalgia.

 

I would honestly look to designing a Brute to not use Granite as the -recharge and -damage are counter to the overall design of the AT.

Here are the numbers.  No Granite.  No ATOs, no buffs, no Incarnates, no procs.  Little heavy on the end usage, but easily doable.

Stone Armor should not have growing pains, but, it depends on how much money you have to throw at it. i found I had nearly 40% defense by level 22 which is a dummy thick amount.

Same goes for Unstoppable on an invulnerability tank.  I took it on live and almost never used it and don't even have it in the mix on HC.  But then again Unstoppable doesn't change your look.  I wonder if Paragon Protectors debate takin their Tier 9 because it makes them look fat in their costume 🙂
