Kinetic Melee Tanker

Hi Heroes!  
 

So I ran a Kinetic Melee/Ice Armor Stalker and loved it. Burst crits from hide are wonderful.

 

It got me thinking though: I could see Kinetic Melee being great for a team tanker. Yes, I know it’s damage is low, BUT KM does -dmg to foes, which can directly increase you and your teammates surviability (great point brought up by @Yomo Kimyata). Plus, Repulsing Torrent takes Taunt sets and can function as a really cool taunt!

 

Theoretically, what are some primaries you think that would go well with if? Electric Armor, Radiation Armor and Shield Defense stand out to me (maybe Invuln as well), but I’d love to see if anyone else sees other synergies!

I have a Dark/Staff, I could see Dark/Kin being just a beastly. Probably have to go Cardiac for Alpha…. Which is fine, since it’ll be fully teaming. And I could color the KM powers Black/Grey to go along with the Dark theme… almost like Shadow control. Ohhhhhh now the wheels are spinning lol

People complain about KM's animations being silly, with the character waving their hands all over the place and everything, but you know what I've always seen?

I am NOT a tanker builder, but this seems doable.  I think the damage is probably lower than I would like, and I'm sure I'm not taking advantage of the tanker ATOs properly, but this seems to look interesting (and pricy!).  I'm just exporting the datalink since it seems to screw up the HOs and DSOs:

Running Darkest Night, even with 3x lvl 53 enzymes, plus Cloak of Fear plus other toggles means using your endurance tools appropriately!  Unleash Potential is not only an oh shit defense button, but also an oh shit endurance button.  I'm not sure how well Kinetic Melee -dam debuffs stack across powers, but it looks like Burst is going to do your heavy lifting there, and with Darkest Night you should be debuffing enemies to about 60% of their normal damage.  Your defense debuff from Cloak of Fear and Darkest Night should be a ridiculous -30% -- that number will drop to a small fraction of that versus anything with AV resistance, but everything else will be cowering, staggering, or just plain whiffing.  Your Achilles heel will be to hit debuffs.

Didn't know Strider had made a thread on this when they sent me a message, but I'll share the build here just for anyone else that's curious on it since I ended up rolling it for my own personal reasons beforehand anyway to test the experiment.

 

My advice had been a Shield/KM to stack AAO for more -Dam, and of course going Soul gets Darkest Night as well, but my primary focus was also on damage potential on the upswing. Power Siphon has a nice 30/s arc (10/10/10) Up/Stable/Down that can be gotten close to perma without Hasten getting involved, then add Assault in there this thing shoots up to 217.5%, that's close to putting Double Stack Rage on notice. It also gives Shield Charge nuke level authority.

My advice had been a Shield/KM to stack AAO for more -Dam, and of course going Soul gets Darkest Night as well, but my primary focus was also on damage potential on the upswing.
