I need help Sonic / Sonic

Crossie

Recommended Posts

So I read that Sonic got a nice little buff so I built out a Sonic / Sonic Defender and named her Lady Karen.  She isn't like a typical Karen though.  She's a cool Karen.

So far, I am REALLY enjoying playing her.  I am really struggling coming up with a good build for a sonic / sonic defender post changes.  I am really hoping to get some help with build templates I can follow that optimize the new buffs and the new availability of high level powers at an earlier level.  I've scoured the forums and haven't found anything.  Can somebody help me to create one or lead me in the right direction to a solid build post buffs / post earlier level availability of powers?

Love,

Karen

Sonic Attack was buffed. Damage was increased significantly for Screech and Siren's Song. Take Screech, Shout and either Shriek or Scream for ST attacks, 2 of the 3 cones plus Aim and Dreadful Wail.

Sonic Resonance was not buffed and is generally considered an underperforming set. Sonic Cage and Sonic Repulsion are almost completely useless and should be skipped. Clarify is optional. Sonic Dispersion requires an ally to cast it on. Liquefy is an interesting T9 but the recharge is way too long. The best that can be said about the set is that most of the powers don't require a lot of slots, which frees you up for pool/epic picks.

According to Wiki - not sure if possible, I can slot Sudden Acceleration KB to KD on Sonic Repulsion which I would imagine would be insanely powerful.

You can, but you can only cast Sonic Repulsion on an ally and they might not be happy about it. It's an expensive toggle to begin with, plus you lose 1 point of endurance for every foe it hits. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen this power used by anyone on live or HC.

Hmmmmm.  With fold space being a newer meta - I can see people being happy with teleporting a whole room into one spot then they are knocked down the whole time.  When fold space isn't available, is it really a bad thing to knock down enemies after everything surrounds the tank?

Now that I think about it, whirlpool which sucks enemies towards the center + sonic repulsion KB - KD seems like it would be hella strong.

i’d swap out tough/weave and pick vengeance / spirit ward. both great if you team a lot. a few def IOs in veng makes it really turn the tide of battle, spirit ward placed on the lead aggro taker makes a meaningful difference

you could get away with 2 end reduction slots on disruption field, the difference is minimal having three

i’d 3 slot amplify with 2 recharge and 1 guassian’s chance for build up. as amplify recharges so slowly you’re pretty much guaranteed to have the build up proc fire every time, double build up

If you're not dying you're not living

  • Sonic Barrier needs 1 more resist to hit ED max.
  • Swap your slotting between Shriek and Shout. Shriek has a 3 second recharge and the recharge in the Winter's Bite set is wasted.
  • In Howl, swap the dmg/rech for dmg/range. Add a 6th slot with a proc.
  • Only 2 endred in Disruption Field (+5 them).
  • Consider a kb>kd in Shockwave
  • Your slotting of Sonic Repulsion is counter productive. Accuracy, damage and recharge do nothing, while what you need most is endred (and you have a tiny amount). Slot 2 endred (+5 them) and the kb>kd and drop the other 3 slots.
  • Tactics needs endred. The power needs to be active for the proc to go off. I prefer putting the BU proc in Amplify so you can use it with Dreadful Wail.
  • World of Confusion is a toggle. It needs endred, not recharge. I'd drop this entirely as it only affects minions and has a tiny duration.
  • Don't skip Sonic Siphon. It's 30% -res with a 30 sec duration. All it needs is 1 acc and maybe a recharge.

@Crossie, check out @Nemu build (and all the info he provides) if your stuck on psi epic, somewhere near the bottom of that page. I'd swap in mu and powersink having played one on live and here for a few years i know what a nightmare they are on the blue bar. Its an old link not updated for page 5 sonic changes but it looks like an easy swap of scream for screech.

It looks interesting enough on paper that I'd want to experiment with it but:

  1. It is an expensive toggle and on a Tanker/Brute etc. you could easily be looking at a huge cost as they draw more in.
  2. If it works well you could leave a melee type (if the targeted ally) restricted to attacks with a range of 10 ft or more.  I'm not familiar enough with the various taunt aura radii on Tankers to know if they'd include targets kd 10 ft away especially with recent Tanker buffs.  Preventing foes from getting closer may hinder their aggro abilities
  3. Tic rate (relatively slow) may allow foes in closer than 10 ft.  This may be a good thing depending on the ally targeted.
  4. Lack of familiarity may be a hindrance for an melee centric ally as it potentially messes with their attacks (kd occurring beyond melee attack range).
  5. Because of some of the above a blaster or other ranged ally may be a better target as the anchor.

Lunch over back later
