From Oxford - so·ci·o·path [ˈsōsēəˌpaTH, ˈsōSH(ē)əˌpaTH] noun a person consistently exhibiting antisocial, impulsive, manipulative, and sometimes aggressive behavior (not in current technical use). From Psychology Today - The defining characteristic of the sociopath is a profound lack of conscience—a flaw in the moral compass that typically steers people away from breaking common rules and toward treating others decently. This disconnect, however, may be hidden by a charming demeanor. I tire of people excusing "main character syndrome" and narcissism. If you can't play well with others, why join teams at all? Nemu
12 hours ago, Seed22 said: Plus usually having a lot more experienced and knowledgeable players on the discord help quell lots, but definitely not all misinfo in real time. By those metrics I'd imagine that in game help channel should be a wealth of legit info but alas... Discord is point in time - you miss the chat and that knowledge is more or less gone. It's not a good medium for stuff like this: One can argue that misinformation can be memorialized on the forums and that's true, but conversely the forums also enable said knowledgeable players to debunk misinformation and provide details on why. Discord less so, the medium doesn't cater itself well to long, thought out, detailed explanations. It's designed for people with short attention spans. I can see people on discord directing people to the forums as a way to promote knowledge, but using discord alone - I have my doubts anyone can learn anything in depth. The problem I see with enablement is that not too many knowledgeable players are willing to put in the time to write up things like what Projector writes up. That kind of insight usually tends to be tribal knowledge and the folks that are "in the know" tend to hang out with other people "in the know" in private discord/sg/circles so that knowledge isn't really being spread to the masses. At most the masses will parrot generic stuff like "you need miracle/numina in health in every build" and I don't see it as any different on general discord or any other medium. Couple this by the fact that most people that play this game aren't generally interested in learning and you get this scenario where the blind leads the blind. 3 1 Liberty, Torchbearer, Excelsior, Everlasting Jezebel Delias Level 50 Fire/Elec/Mace Blaster I am the Inner Circle! Speaking of misinformation, most of the statements in this thread about Discord are misinformation posted by people who clearly don't use Discord. For people who claim to hate misinformation so much you all sure do love to spread it. I love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. The stuff posted on the forums is indexed by search engines, and is easily accessible without requiring an additional account other than the Homecoming account. That's a point in favor of forums. Discord, you're at the whims of Discord. Like many social media companies, Discord has begun using AI moderation. There's been many complaints on Reddit the past few months of Discord randomly banning people. And if you're erroneously banned by Discord? Good luck getting your account back. Also, yes, you can search Discord, but it's complete butt compared to a forum's search, and especially an actual search engine which indexed a forum. I've been told by young Millennial friends that the Homecoming Discord is better than the forums as well, with more knowledgeable and more friendly players. So I started regularly observing it over the past eight months. It's not any better than the forums. I've seen plenty of stuff said on the Homecoming Discord server that is just plain wrong. Quite a few people that hang out there also tend to be a bit on the toxic side. I've seen people pilloried, piled on, and bullied out of discussions. Much like the forums. The only differences between the Homecoming forums and the Homecoming Discord are that the players that hang out on the forums tend to be older, while the people that hang out on the Homecoming Discord tend to be younger. And the Discord server is harder to search.
Teklord
In no way is the discord better than the forums for information dissemination. Searching is worse, it is harder to see activity streams and it is so much more noisier with much less signal. I remember when everyone went to IRC from Usenet and it was a similar loss of information. But I am older and appreciate being able to digest information from something other than a firehose.
Neiska
Three thoughts- 1. The forums and discord need not be either/or. Many use both. 2. For all the claims of ages of users, I am interested in the source of this claim. Pray tell, let’s see some sources and citations on that. 3. My third and final thought is how in the heck is this thread still going? 1

But they are not unreasonable assumptions. Discord is just newer and hence likely to be more popular with younger gamers than a lot of us old farts. That doesn't mean nobody old uses Discord. Of course they do, but I'd be not surprised at all if it skews younger than people who hang out primarily on forums. That said, I'm sure the Homecoming Discord itself skews older than the average Discord community. 3

And i fly all the time. Apparently taking a trip to Null is so much of a hardship that there are now at least two threads talking about changing the Flight Pool. They are dumping on the player for using a power that negatively affects others and then crying when they get booted from the team after being asked to stop but didn't. And in many people's opinion, rightly so. And now it's being turned into "help they are poking fun of me for my poor decisions!" and "no, I can use this power whenever I wish, others have no right to complain they are negatively affected by it!" Spoiler alert - if YOU pick a power and USE it and it NEGATIVELY affects other people and continue to do so after being asked to stop, then YOU are the problem here. The fixes is fairly simple - either play alone, make your own team, or god FORBID - actually ASK in team chat "hey anyone mind if I use group fly" before using it. Because, you know, apparently trying to play and team well with others is such a hardship. But NOoo... instead it's - "How DARE they not abide by my personal choices that affect them negatively! Quick! TO THE FORUMS! THE INTERWEB SHALL MOST CERTAINLY HEAR OF THIS!" 5 1 1
