ZacKing Posted December 11 Posted December 11 With box office crapfests like Morbius, Madame Web and now Kraven, it's no wonder Sony's giving up on it. https://comicbook.com/movies/news/sony-marvel-spider-man-universe-spinoff-movies-ending-dead/ 1
Techwright Posted December 12 Posted December 12 That title is confusing (or bait 😉). It's the Spider spinoffs universe that's stopping production. The "Spiderverse" films, those with the name "Spider-verse" in them, are a hot button item, and will continue to be made. This is a good thing. Other than bleeding money profusely, the spinoffs were not really "family" films, and Spider-man is very much a family-film kind of property. Even the darker moments of some of the best Spider-man films do not reach the level of violence seen in the Kraven red-band trailers. So basically Sony created niche films. The other thing is: these characters were intended to be seen in connection with Spider-Man. Isolating them from him, therefore, is a turn-off to many. 3
Without_Pause Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Disappointed but not surprised. I had a sliver of hope for Kraven. I felt like the idea of Madame Web's character is an interesting idea if you strip Spider-Man out of it, but whoever green lit that character getting a movie shouldn't be in the industry. I never talked myself into watching the Venom movies because they never were that greatly reviewed. I feel like people saw them due to Venom versus them be standout movies. 1 Top 10 Most Fun 50s. 1. Nothing special, but not terrible either. Will eventually get around to watching the third via whatever streaming venue it lands upon. This time though more for Chiwetel Ejiofor than any other reason. I expect more Paint By Numbers with a couple of Entertaining Actors as a bonus. You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.

Luminara Posted December 12 Posted December 12 Sony: "We're going to make movies with Spider-man's rogues gallery" Everyone: "Sounds good." Sony: "Big budgets. Big." Everyone: "Even better." Sony: "Without Spider-man." Everyone: "What?" Sony: "We were in the movie theaters with someone's mom researching movies right before she died." Everyone: "..." Sony: "..." Get busy living... or get busy dying. That's goddamn right.

He plays some military dude in the 3rd Venom movie. Haven't seen it yet though. Eventually. Can be seen in the trailers. Great actor at any rate. He's in my favorite David Mamet film, Redbelt. Highly recommend to anyone who's not seen it. You see a mousetrap? I see free cheese and a f$%^ing challenge.
biostem Posted December 16 Posted December 16 I'm actually surprised that they haven't tried to create a live action film with Miles Morales in it...

It is my guess that they are biding their time until the animated version completes (perhaps with the next film) and possibly Tom Holland's turn as Peter Parker has nearly run its course. I'd not be surprised if there was a passing of the mantle film with either Tom or Andrew Garfield. 1
ThaOGDreamWeaver Posted December 16 Posted December 16 Ran across this on the interweb today... https://www.vulture.com/article/kraven-the-hunters-box-office-failure-superhero-fatigue.html Tired of cape flicks? No. Tired of Sony pumping out franchise placeholders? Absolutely. Yeah, nope. News reporter trying to make news there. There's absolutely still a market for superhero films, but now having a quiver-full of good ones given to us over the last few decades, fans expect a better-quality script. They can forgive other details like less than top-quality CGI (the extremely popular Avengers: Infinity War suffered from that) but it always goes back to the script. I'm very puzzled why Hollywood hasn't figured this out after decades. It's the same thing with westerns. The western genre was never dead, it had just been glutted with lackluster scripts. As soon as films like Silverado, Unforgiven, or The Revenant showed up this same class of reporters were amazed that the films did well. 2

The second one barely made $200 million, and was a financial failure, but it is garbage. 1 Being constantly offended doesn't mean you're right, it means you're too narcissistic to tolerate opinions different than your own.

Do you think you could write a movie around it?” Actually reminds me of the first Friday The 13th movie. The producer (Sean Cunningham) tells a ridiculous story where he had a title, poster and tagline (that he actually ran in newspapers) and said that if he just had a movie to go with it, he knew that he would make money. 1

Or for an example that's a bit of a classic, how about the OG Italian Job? (And just out of interest: how would the nerds on this board solve the Coach Problem? Any great ideas?) Frostbiter Posted Wednesday at 07:35 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:35 PM (edited) Maybe the poster that I had to block for giving me an unreasonably hard time on numerous occasions should consider being less of an overbearing douchebag? Nobody needs them crashing down on them like a ton of bricks for not conforming to their views on things. The world does not revolve around them and their take on things. Oh well. Se la vie. Not my problem anymore.
