So i am on a new 50 ( need badges ). And someone calls out Kronos in Talos in LFG.  I am in my base.  The Kronos was 100 ft from base portal.  Dead by the time i got there.  Okay.

5 minutes later…. The exact same thing.

*long clawed fingers drum on desktop.

Yeah, no.  I got to say something or go out and kill somebody and drink their blood.  And its Christmas.  Gonna be tough to find anyone.  So, yeah, gotta communicate.

in LFG i type something like “hey, you morons want to stop calling out Kronos when its being attacked and dropping fast? It’s irritating.”

immediately someone commented on my comment, diagnosing a few things about me and my personal life while at it…

i decided to “be polite”. Merry xmas, i wrote back, just trying to get people to think. They are wasting peoples time.

and here it gets weird.  They reply back, getting all friendly and consoling. Mentioning how they can relate because they used to be irritating.

i’m just looking at the screen in disbelief.  It was like someone leaned over the edge of my coffin and patted my hand…

to be clear.
1) there are stupid people out there doing stupid things

2) i will mention this. It amuses me.  Also, its Christmas and hunting for blood would be s pain

3) you may be a top psychiatrist able to figure out everything about me based on me complaining about being inconvenienced. (I kind of doubt it though…)

3b) this will have no effect on what i complain about (a top psch would get that right out if the gate…)

it just seems so odd.  Are we now in a world where people do not get dark humor?  I am drifting ever farther from my mooring to humanity it seems.  Ach, well.  Going to be trying to study German poetry this next year.  A stretch for my skills, but a good challenge.  Maybe? It will give me some insight into this behavior…

On a more serious note, what I have noticed is that there's always "that one person" who can't wait like 1 minute to let others get there, so they start attacking, then others let loose, and before you know it, the monster is downed and there's lots of people upset because they wasted a trip/their time...

I have a different take on most giant monsters, because they are open-world events: I dislike waiting around for more than 3 minutes(*1) for anyone to start fighting a giant monster. There is *some* variance in timing for how long a giant monster takes to defeat solo, but if a player isn't using Lore pets, and isn't multi-boxing (i.e. only one character is fighting) there shouldn't be any giant monsters that are defeated in under three minutes. There aren't many zones that take longer to check for giant monsters than 3 minutes, unless the character is rather under-powered.

If I'm going to be that one guy, I'll announce that I'm softening up the giant monster, but I'm perfectly capable of pacing defeat times. I can't help it if other people freak out in an open world... the Giant Monsters will be back. When I've done this, I've never used Lore pets, which ought to be enough evidence that this isn't going to be a quick fight.

(*1)  It is always possible to send a tell to someone who has announced a GM, and the folks kind enough to post the $loc of the GM in LFG means that once in the zone players should know where to go and not have to zone in with "where is it?" broadcasts. As for the duration of fights, I *know* there are players who prefer to take 10+ minutes to assemble a team of 8 (or fewer, for the multi-boxers) players, have everyone pop Lores and then be done in under a minute. I don't understand how this is better than a small team defeating a GM in four minutes without lores.

The monsters that can spawn in different zones, like Kronos, that's a slightly different kettle of fish. By now most long-time players should know that there is a good chance of a followup Kronos spawn,

Finally: I know when I see some players announce a GM, and I know that that player isn't waiting around... I know roughly how long they take to solo GMs, so I have a good idea of if I can get to the GM in time to join in.

Yeah. Of course another spawned.  It was way out on the map edge.  I held little hope but headed there.  One person was fighting. I was feeling unsocial so i never asked for a team and never looked at chat.  Others showed up.  I was surprised to get the badge at the end.  Which was all i wanted.  1500+ badges is a long road lol.  And i dont even know if i like the toon yet…

Since I solo and have yet to get any of my toons above 43 (dang altitis) I tend to spot a monster as I'm about and send out a notice...hang around for a bit...and listen to crickets then move on. So kinda the opposite issue...

I am guessing you are not on Freedumb…errr I mean Excelsior…

My anecdotal experience;

On Everlasting, people tend to wait around for a go signal.

Indom, it's a carefully curated time for GM season, though I think unless it's almost that time, doesn't matter?

Haven't done a GM hunt on Excel is some time.

Snarky, if you need the badges for Caleb, join one of Laucianna's  Lab runs.   The font spawns Caleb and it's a bit easier than having to do the spawn in Nerva IMO.  And several defeat badges get taken care of as well.  (plus the Lab only badges while there)

Mostly Torch...but I've been on Excelsior and Everlasting with a couple of the sightings. Babbage up in Boom on Everlasting a couple days ago.

Good luck with your poetry.

German is quite the epic journey from first syllable to sentence end.  Since I am dead and have the time though….

Not sure if you've been playing enough to realize something about Kronos in Talos...

Sometimes (anecdotally, it's rare) it's just one. But I've never been the first one to see one, but when I see the comment in LFG, I head on over, maybe it's dead already maybe not.
I turn on the jets and look around on the hill; down the cliff, on top of the buildings surrounding the hill. Generally - at least in the past several months, I've seen as many as 15 of them spawn. Sometimes in pairs. Sometimes, just one. And then...they stop spawning, or a Babbage spawns...and that's usually the end of it.

I never saw this on Torch or Indom, only Excelsior.

So, blood-thirsty fanged one, I encourage you to just wait a few minutes and see if another appears.
And then, remember the $loc command, as it will reveal the /loc coordinates in chat.

Example: Kronos here $loc
And what shows up is
Kronos here 1124.4, -23, 555  that everyone else can link and go right to it to assist. (helps to say what zone for those out of zone)

And when those folks arrive and it's already down, you can laugh at your coincidental hypocrisy.

Except for the people who seem to be convinced that the $loc coordinates are unique, so you get posts in LFG like "Kronos at [x y z]", and they don't understand what's wrong until you post back that you're rushing right off to Firebase Zulu to fight the Kronos, because that's clearly where it is from their message.

I would be nice if /loc included the zone or at least add a /zone command.

Then you just make a macro

$tar in /zone at /loc

What would be great is a $zone variable.    /whereami gives the map
