As i said i have all these alts but I might make one really powerful character.

If you had a decent farmer and could pay for it what would you build?

Something that either could kick ass or was interesting.

point of note to newer players: you absolutely do not need a farmer to have enough inf for a high end build

I do not have a farmer, and never had any interest in farming or Auction House work in this game. While I am probably low on alt counts sitting around 26 lvl 50 characters. Easily most of them are pretty much fully kitted out. While the one I def call my mains are highly kitted out.

Unless you want to immediately want to get all the powers slotted with purples, winters, PVPs, etc you can make quite a bit of money playing the game and through merits to get the gear you need. Just takes some planning on what your goals for a character are.

I never thought this would become a farming discussion but i enjoy farming or i wouldn't do it.

Never do what you do not enjoy -- if we are dispensing advice.

I have lots of influence and piles or purples and i thought what should i build with this?

I'm sure this isn't the answer you're looking for but I'd say whatever toon you're spending the most time playing or having the most fun playing. I don't think I'd start a new toon with the intention of dipping it in gold if I didn't already know that I really enjoy playing that toon.

The toons I go all out on are my favorites, Ill/Rad troller, fire/dark troller, arse/ta troller, elec/shield scrap and stalker, ss/rad tank, fire/fire blaster, ect. I love all those toons and I'd recommend them to anyone but who knows if they mesh with your playstyle.

I have been obsessed with numerous toons over the years.  On live i would shatter 50s for the next project, as I only had enough “good” enhancements to make 2-3 “perfect” characters.

My current obsession is the latest iteration of my “main concept character” Snarky the Vampire.  Who I am pretty sure is closer to a lich than a vampire at this state.

Snarky is currently a Dark Dark Corruptor.  I am doing every mission from every contact in the game on him.  I did invest a lot in P2W, and hot all my crafting badges (big money waste lol).  But he is level 24 and has 3? Global I/Os on bim, and a handful of Corruptor I/Os, along with a over force kb->kd.  Other than that on SOs.  So, a lot of fun with a medium budget.  At around 29 I will start slapping in a levelling build.  But even then most of what i use to level are pretty middle of the road.  At 50 there will be purples and hamis.  So, real funds spent fast.

All my alts, basically.  When I come up with a concept, I figure it out in Mids, buy all the Attuned versions of all the enhancements I want up front (so I can use them as I level the build), and then by the time that character's made it to 50 and got all their goodies and such, I've got seed money from them that I need to pay it forward to the next character I want to make.

I think that is the beauty of this game that you can make of it what you want and do the things that you find interesting.

I actually enjoy farming.  I enjoy making characters.  And i like to do stuff that is weird.

I have a vet level 30 petless mm for example.  Sometimes i will try weird or unpopular stuff and there is often a reason why some combinations are not popular.

I recenrtly got on this tanker/spine kick so i made my farmer which is willpower spine, made a fire melee willpower with sorcery enflame, and i made an ice armor spine tank.

After nearly six years, I have a 40 characters pretty well outfitted.  Some of them are a little outdated due to some power changes and need a respec to get full utility again.

My first few mains hit 50, had generic IOs and then started getting sets installed.  Mostly tankers and the like since I found blasters worked fairly well, but the more the 50s got played, the more influence, drops, etc... happened and I was able to afford more and more.   I still have 50 alts that need to be outfitted efficiently, but it's more a time and research cost at this point.   I find I procrastinate just enough to build up enough purple recipes and merits that I've been needing to sell off "junk" just to have enough space when the next character is ready for respec.

This. I don't mark a character "done" until they have a level 50 money-is-no-object build completed.
I've also got a few toons with multiple such builds (VEAT = both Crabbermind and Bane, etc) on the same character.
As for my most all-round powerful toon? Likely one of the /Marine MMs.

If your goal is the most expensive build possible, that goal will ultimately be achieved by  spending a 10-11 digit amount of influence on level 53 D-Sync Provocations. At one point I had a character with 9 of those 53’s slotted (at buy now pricing and before Ectosomes were released), so probably a 20 billion influence build at the time. Benumb, Heat Exhaustion, Fulcrum Shift, and Fold Space are primary examples of powers that benefit the most from these enhancements.

I know people that don't make a character done even after all that.

To clarify: the build is a prerequisite for me marking a character done.... but it's (usually!) not the very last thing I'll do on them before moving on to my next alt.

Thematic Badge + Title attained? All contacts at at least phoneable level of familiarity? All the Passive Accolades? At least one completed Lv50 Purpled Build? At least Veteran Level 100? All the relevant Incarnates (with multiple copies of Destiny; Lore and Hybrid) at T4? If the answer is yes to all of those (even on my "dedicated farmers") then it's done.
I don't particularly care about badge count or TF completion beyond getting the aforementioned accolades and potentially a single thematic badge.

Even my "done" characters will still get played occasionally; because I won't bother rolling a toon in the first place if I'm not going to enjoy playing it. However I won't intentionally make any further adjustments to them as long as the devs don't make any powers changes or introduce new IOs etc. that drastically upset the apple cart.

My spreadsheet requires that I fill in the following fields for each character, beyond being IO’d and boosted:

- 7 T4 Incarnates (6 + Incandescence)

- Mini mode purchased

- A T3 prismatic aether “effect” purchased

- 4 auto +HP/End accolades acquired
- Mobile dummy acquired

- Excalibonk acquired

- Veteran level (I’d like 100+)

Characters with all benchmarks completed are pretty much “done” I suppose, not that the adventure stops there.

I have a couple of characters that have pursued things like Undefined Mode, Block Mode, all of the other accolades I didn’t mention, level 53 Provocations, etc, but I would cry if I made that the standard for my whole list.

I do not farm.  (Well, unless you count Stardew Valley...)

But I have always been very Very happy with my Spines/Regen stalker tearing up huge groups of mobs and ending at full health.  Yes, he is fairly well tricked out, and yes, there are limits, and particular kinds of enemies that can make him faceplant. But for the most part he's a demon, and has handed out wakies after finishing off huge groups of CoT or DE that killed everyone else.

Well...I have more Influence than time for the game.  So Influence isn't the limit for me.  It's making great builds, updating and improving builds for existing Toons, starting some new Toons (but not too many), and finding time to do all that and play them.

This.  I find farming quite relaxing.  If I have 20 minutes I'll hop on my farmer and make a quite 5m or so while I watch a few youtube vids.  I seldom do it in long stretches (excepting that I have definitly farmed to help a friends alt to 50 in a pinch), because if I have a lot of time, I'll do more traditional things.

I have it.

My cold/ice proc bomb build. Great damage and very fun. Cost me 788 or so mil to make though

I guess if funds are unlimited whatever you build is going to outperform an average build unless you've done something horribly wrong (looking at you, six slotted brawl!)

I'd also suggest that if you have a penchant for a particular AT, powerset or play style, you're always going to enjoy that more than something you are unfamiliar with.

That said I can see that a few billion extra inf would work wonders on the following:

SoA - follow the centre "Huntsman" path. I had one on live and even averagely slotted it produced a veritable sea of orange digits and was tough as hell. I was able to solo the ITF on it, on live, which was an accomplishment.

Ice/En/Ice Blaster. I played one again on live and they were my third 50 ever when Ice was one of the highest ST damaging toons in game. It certainly hit like a mule and had a couple of useful AoEs too so giving that an ultimate build would be there or thereabouts even now I reckon.

Plant/Storm/Dark - I've never actually played this combo of controller but I imagine it would be amazing if fully kitted out. Great debuffs and mitigation combined with great control and pretty good damage. If I had the inf and wasn't already working on so many I would be tempted to try it...

If going to space for 11 minutes makes you an astronaut, then I'm probably an expert gynaecologist.
