I'm making a character, and I thought I'd see what people think.  As with most of my character, he's based on an existing character, in this case, the Silver Surfer.

Now, I understand that the Surfer's Power Cosmic is far too versatile in the comics to be simulated perfectly here, but if you were making a character based on the Surfer, what AT would you make him?  What power sets would you give him?  It seems to me the Surfer's main offense is simply Energy Blasts, so that set is a given (and has the Kirby spots!).  His Power Cosmic has other uses, though.  I've seen him healing people, shielding people, and so on.  He's got abilities to help his allies.

So, my first attempt was a Defender, Kinetics/Energy Blast.  His powers LOOK good, but the effectiveness just isn't there.  The blasts hit only slightly harder than a rolled up newspaper, and the Kinetics effects work primarily at the location of the enemy (eg. I can't heal myself unless I'm in melee range, where I don't want to be).  So, I just wasn't feeling it.

Surfer's blasts are notable for being POWERFUL.  To me, that says BLASTER.  So, I made him a Blaster, Energy Blast... but what secondary should he have?  I gave him Atomic Manipulation, but I'm not sure about that either.  There's not really anything there to help his allies.

That takes me back to the Defender/Corruptor.  My next thought was Energy Blast/Radiation Emission.  This one looks decent again, does help his allies, does give him healing... but he again has no POWER.  Aunt May does more damage smacking things with her purse than his Energy Blasts do.

So, I'm kind of torn, and I thought I'd see if anyone had any suggestions.

My Silver Surfer homage back in the day was a PB.  Having said that nothing in this game remotely comes close to emulating the Power Cosmic.

It depends;  A rad/rad sentinel could work if you want range and durability;  Color the powers white to light grey or gold if you want a more "cosmic" appearance.  If you want something that's more about manipulating fundamental forces, I'd go with a grav/time controller...

I did think about doing a Peacebringer, but I found them awfully squishy, and the bubbles didn't quite hit the mark visually.  I figured if I wanted a combo of range and defenses, I'd do a Sentinel... but then there's nothing to help the team with.

I just did a team with the Defender, Radiation Emission/Energy Blast, and he still didn't feel quite... right.  It's hard to explain, I hope you understand what I mean.

I'll try the Blaster again... is there a secondary you would suggest?

If PB is out IMO the next best thing would probably be an Energy/RadArmor Sentinel. It's appropriately blasty and glowy and explodey and Ground Zero can heal allies even before Epic/Patron pools and Incarnates are considered.

It's hard to beat the sheer power of Energy/Energy Blaster. To be more of a team player you could always take the Leadership Pool, Energize makes it easy to run lots of toggles.

FWIW, once the PB gets its tier-9 survival power and adequate recharge, the character can be capped (85%) to everything but Psy all the time.

A PB would probably be most like him, but if you don't like them then maybe a Dominator would be good. You could do Gravity or Electricity control / Energy assault. They have a good diversity of effects in the controls especially gravity, dimensional shift and wormhole are really interesting effects you don't get anywhere else. The secondary does good damage, and maybe pick Psi for Link Minds to buff the team.

I've been gone for 4 months and now Kin hits like a rolled up newspaper?

When did *that* nerf happen?

What this team needs is more Defenders

I'd go */Energy Dominators with the Energy Mastery Pool - that gives you most of the primary and secondary powers of an En/En blaster with a side of controls.

Gravity is probably the best primary with it's fairly unobtrusive pet and "space-y" powers like Wormhole and Dimension Shift.
Earth is great if you want to lean into Molecular re-arrangement and transmutation.

And En/En Blaster gets Nova and higher damage, and can be built for capped defences if you lean into it with Fighting and Manouvers and so on. I can attest to that feeling very cosmic too.

I'd forgotten about Dominators... that may be something to consider (though, I already have so many of them...).

Hey Psy, it's been a while since I played my Kins, but the last time I did, they were just as awesome as they always have been.

I suspect what is the case here is @Ultimo is just unfamiliar with how to run Kins well: bouncing into melee range, then back out, rince repeat.  Or if the Toon is tough enough, the Level is high enough, and the Toon is well known, familiar, and practiced, live at close to melee range.  It's why I have a Kin/Electric Defender, a Fire/Kin Corruptor, and a Kin/Rad Blast Defender.  😺

Weird that the obvious hasn't been mentioned, an ENERGY/Invulnerability SENTINEL.

WHY there is even a patron pool with KNOCKOUT BLOW to show strength.

THEN look into side pools to fill as you desire.
