That lets you temporarily or permanently ignore a player as you see fit. I have to agree. My tendency is to put annoying folks on ignore. And the next time someone's on my ignore list, I remove everyone else that's on it. So, other than this one character, who I'm thinking got banned for racial slurs, there's nobody else on it. As far as raid leaders and such...I just make notes, mostly good. The bad ones, well, I've only rarely run into truly bad leaders. 1
battlewraith Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I was on a team of three one time. I kept asking one of the others to do something and they never replied. Finally, I asked the third person what was going on. He communicated with the second person and then told me that the guy had me on ignore. I asked him to ask the second person why I was on ignore (I didn't recognize the global or anything). The third person said that the second didn't remember why I was on ignore. I think this is reasonable QOL suggestion. I think a lot of people are prone to use ignore and then just forget about it. It doesn't just affect them. 2 1
tidge Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I think a time-limited Ignore feature would be a good thing, and it is something I would use. The limited number of players on my ignore list are a mix of folks who had public meltdowns of hateful talk or just an endless sort of jibber-jabber across channels or for some reason got into public spats in open channels with each other. Some of these just needed to be off my radar for a short period of time. 2
Uun Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Putting people on ignore in game doesn't punish them in any way. You're not depriving them of any rights (other than the ability to join teams you lead). It's a tool to preserve your own sanity. While I certainly use it for offensive conduct, I use in-game ignore for lots of mostly trivial stuff. Spam LFG channel for a farm every 30s? You're on ignore. Behave badly on a team? You're on ignore. I just checked and I have 26 people on my in-game ignore list. The pool of players is large enough that I don't think this limits my gaming experience in any way. I can't think of a reason why I would want ignore to be temporary, but I have no objection to adding the option. 1 Uuniverse
Ghost Posted May 6 Posted May 6 (edited) I put people on ignore and forget why, all the time. I usually unignore everyone every few months. The one who really need to be ignored will usually find a way to earn their spot back on my ignore list. As for the OPs idea - I think it would be a waste of time. Mainly because it’s something that players should easily be able to manage themselves. But who am I to decide what the devs want to waste their time on. Edited May 6 by Ghost
Troo Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Quality of life (QOL) improvement for players and moderators. Not sure that's a waste of anyone's time. A guide on how and when to ignore folks might be helpful. Different types of ignores (I think there is global, character, and spam?). How to modify chat tabs to avoid unwanted chatter. What to do when one ends up in a task force with an ignored player. Suggestions on how to maintain an ignore list. Add temp ignore and ignore to tips & tricks. I don't didn't know how to edit the ignore list.. can we dump the whole list or is there an interface with select all or select some? When you add the 31's one, the first player you ignored rolls off the end of the list. You can see by my signature, that I have no issue with putting players on ignore. I rolled through that 30 spots petty quickly when I first joined Homecoming and people were falling off the end of the list for a while ... maybe a year. After that, I have rarely had to put someone on ignore. The people that had put on ignore that rolled off the end of the list weren't around any more or I wasn't coming into contact with them any more. On 5/3/2025 at 11:06 AM, Mystoc said: I feel like perma ignoring is a very drastic measure only saved for true spammers in chat who are intentionally being disruptive. On 5/3/2025 at 11:06 AM, Mystoc said: so, I'm actually almost never using ignore because I feel most people don't warrant such an extreme response Sounds like you are using it to fit what you need. No need for the DEVs to change something that is already working as intended. (NOTE: the ignore list can't be made longer because doing so causes game crashes) If someone is spamming a channel, you can ask them not to in that channel or in direct tells or place a support ticket (the GMs will take care of it). Of the chat spam mitigation options from the DEVs side, I think first and best thing to do is remove the "say" command. Why "say" was ever a command, I have no idea. That was a bad idea from the get-go. New people tend to write macros with "say" instead of a channel name which means the chat is targeted at whatever channel you are in ... like say /lfg or /help (for the most part these days). I know that some players will find it cool to yell out something every time that they use a power, but it is very quickly annoying to other players that see the chat. Can't stop that, but you can stop players from sending that "spam" to the channel that they have currently selected by removing the "say" command. If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore. (It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications) Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case. But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable. Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Just hold the temporary ignore list in memory, and when you quit the list goes away. If that doesn't work, then more work could be done, but something like that would be quick(er, -ish) to implement and allow feedback for the devs before going all out. Edit: also "yes please." Ridiculous Girl Posted May 7 Posted May 7 if you ignore enough people it will start removing people from your list automaticallly... that is how i refresh my list frequently. i make notes on everyone that i ignore and why, so people that get noticed again for ignorable behavior getting ignored more easily the next time. 🙂 "I'm not crazy, my reality is just different than yours" the Cheshire Cat "Ce n'est rien de mourir; c'est affreux de ne pas vivre" (It's nothing to die, it's terrible not to live) Jean Valjean "وطن المرء ليس مكان ولادته و لكنه المكان الذي تنتهي فيه كل محاولاته للهروب” (Home is not where you were born, home is where all your attempts to escape cease.)
