Apologies if I confuse Winter Lord and Lord Winter.  I know that these are two separate enemies.

As an alternative to only allowing the Winter Lord to spawn once per hour when opening packages...  Why not change it so that the merit reward only drops once per hour?  This produces precisely the same results.

Then you can turn off the time limit for the Winter Lord spawn entirely and allow us badgers to badge ungrieved.

I find myself in agreement with the sentiment even if not necessarily the idea. Very Naughty is only available during the winter event, only obtainable from a single, specific, unique present in the zone, is apparently not team credit awarded, and only spawns once per hour after the existing Winter Lord has been defeated. That is 5 Praetorian zones, 16 hero zones if the Shadow Shard also has presents, 4 PvP zones if they have presents, and 8 villain zones. (I have no intention of popping into a PvP zone or the Shadow Shard to check for presents.) So that is a max total of 33 characters that can get the badge per hour on any given server. That is a Jack Emmert level of Fuck You to badgers.

You’ve got a month to get it. I was able to log on to one of the busier servers and get the badge within 5 minutes because I went into a PvP zone. I’m not even a hardcore badger, I just wanted the title on one character. You don’t get to complain about how hard the badge is to get if you refuse to use the resources available to you.

At any rate, 33 characters earning the badge each hour is around 27,000 characters per server over the course of the event. The players who are completionists will get the badge eventually, and most other people probably won’t care.

Excelsior has 821 players online right now at the time I am typing this up. Of those 821 players, not more than 33 can get the badge in any given hour. Once the suspicious present spawns, it is first to the present gets the badge no matter how much time any of the players spent trying to get it just to spawn. It took me an hour to get it today in a zone I had to myself. You are completely missing the point of my comment. The only way this is better than the lone Contaminated in Recluse's Victory is that there are more zones to try in.

For that matter, who said anyone wasn't using the resources available to them? You are making an unsubstantiated claim, for what?

Edit: It doesn't matter if I got it on my main badger. It doesn't matter if you got it on your main or only badger. The game isn't just played by you or me. It is played by lots of people, at the same time, with who knows how many of those players having multiple characters they want the badge on for any reason. "Completionists will get the badge eventually"? That is a rather optimistic statement and disregards anyone you may not consider a completionist that is pursuing the badge for any reason as well as the people on these forums that have already previously stated how little time they get to play any given day. But hey, I guess they should just go without or hope to find a suspicious present others have been putting the effort into spawning and take it from them. Your 27,000 requires the players to be getting the present as soon as it spawns playing 24 hours a day. Sure, there will be some players playing at any given time, but how many players don't get that luxury?

The hour cooldown is not after the Winter Lord is defeated, it's after the box spawns. There can be, and often are, multiple boxes in a zone.

That is more fair than my understanding of the matter. I have to wonder why it took me so long to get one in Imperial City then.

The snow is tied to the same hourly cycle, so you can use it as an indicator to know if the present has recently spawned. If you do one cycle around the zone and you don't see the present, you're better off trying a different zone; when the snow goes away, it's been 45 minutes since the last special present spawned; when the snow comes back, a special present has just spawned or will spawn shortly.

That's just the power that applies the snow effect to you. The next patch to live will allow you to delete the power by right clicking it from your powers window if you find the effect too distracting.

I also got this badge with no effort.  First someone kindly advertised a present cus they already had it, and after that I knew what they looked like.  Went to a less popular zone like FF and got it almost instantly.  Keep in mind that there's A LOT OF ZONES including PvP like Macskull said, you can definitely get it if you want it.  You can also help someone else get it.

I did a few loops around the Zig in Brickstown, and was able to get the badge within an hour, and that's with multiple people doing the same route. Now, killing said Winter Lord by yourself is a different story. 🙂

I've been able to rotate thru my chars that used to be done with winter badges, but it's not a guarantee.  I did find if I did it when no one was around, the map would reset, so once per hour wasn't happening.   I got three in a row on an empty map, then someone else entered the zone.   So it's going to be easier on less populated servers.

I'm not much of a badger but this thread inspired me.   I got the badge within 10 minutes in Siren's Call and Warburg on different characters.    Very low population as one might expect.  Actually fighting the WL in a PvP zone with the changes to your powers is not advisable however.
