I'm curious if anyone has tried a Fire/Fire brute for farming?   Just took a rad/fire through a couple dfb's - I'm just not feeling it.

Pretty much any random primary along with /Fire can farm fire farms.  Much of the damage comes from Fiery Embrace, Burn and patron AoEs.  You could be an effective farmer with Energy/Fire if you really wanted to, its just that most everything will be faster.

Got bored with my spines fire so I'm leveling a Rad/Fire right now (through comic con farm). It felt slow until you unlocked the final PBAOE attack from Rad, now it is disgusting. I'm running +4/8 without bosses at level 34. Just have 6 purples on me to start and the rest reds. 3 purps take you to defense cap and resistance is already capped. +1 to rad/fire

I hear ya. That is exactly why I started a rad/fire as well. I like it soooo much better than spines. No need to position myself to maximize damage, just stand there in the middle of the swarm and go nuts.

Nice little concept for those with infinitely deep pockets. 503% damage when the stars align, 217% haste when +recharge proc and hasten are used simultaneously, getting you super close to perma hasten, capped s/l, e, psi, and a few other quality of life things. Decent defense, too. mid to high 20% without hybrid. 30's with. Endurance management seems to be great as well.

It's more than just positioning. Force Feedback in Radioactive Smash has ~50% proc rate due to the Contamination mechanic triggering off nearby enemies as well as the target. Irradiated Ground does ridiculous amounts of damage when slotted with procs due to triggering every 5 seconds rather than every 10. The -def on Radiation also allows slotting Achilles' Heel to amplify the rest of your damage.

My current build is designed for fire farms, but with the ability to function outside of them as well:\

That is interesting. Looks like it would do well in either Fire or SL farms. Hmmm, maybe my next uber expensive alt project. I am thinking of making a farmer for my melee toons for vet level grinding. That way I can two box one (this build you provided probably) and then have something like an MA/WP toon on /follow and a PBAoE on autofire and just plow through SL farms

Posted (edited)

Rad/ can potentially be faster than spines, but like spines, in order to get max speed, you have to actually pay ATTENTION to your attack chain.

First rule, ALWAYS fire off atom smasher right after you hit fusion. That will irradiate pretty much every single mob around you that you connect with. Atom Smasher's damage is okay, and like burn you drop it whenever it pops, but if have to wait a second or two to get off fusion before atom smasher, it's worth it for the secondary effect.

Radiation contamination- Now, from what I have seen, contamination damage is 20% of the attack's damage in an explosion. That means (as far as I know) an 8 foot radius around the target, up to 5 targets. When you follow up after the atom smasher,  you do an average of 80% of it's damage to targets around the primary target. After a fusioned atom smasher, pretty much any target you randomly picked is extremely likely to be contaminated.

You can often get off a radioactive smash and then a radiation siphon, OR a devastating blow, in between atom smashers and burns. This makes up for the lack of  a decent cone like spines, except that against bosses, MY devastating blow does almost a thousand damage and recharges in 5 seconds, as well as putting down -15% defense for the next hit. When you are down to a boss or two and too far from the next spawn, you drop the 'leftover' bosses with your ST attack chain.

And, of course, once you get your defense up, you can set your burn on auto and afk farm while you type on the forums, like I am doing. Speed is gonna be the same for any fire armor brute.

S/L farms might rarely require a hint of attention, but not often

Here's my build, as it stands:

Now, I will admit that it could probably be tweaked a little, but the build has served me well for 87 Veteran levels, through fire farming, MSR, ITF's, Lambdas, Stealthing ouro arcs, Katie Hannons, s/l farming, and lots of TF's.

Gonna concoct a rad/elec version. Will post in a bit =). I like /elec because it's great on end. Especially when you slot in +end on the lightning aura.

Here is the rad/elec build quoted in the spoiler. You can ad more +recharge by replacing the 4 stat ATO slot with the Force Feedback proc in radioactive smash, if needed, but it reduces s/l resistance from cap, slightly.

I created an alt last night based on the ss/elec brute build suggested by dreadzor. I used my main to two box and PL the alt to mid 30's. My main is a MA/WP brute at vet level 23 with T4 Alpha, T4 Judgement and the rest Tier3. I have superior ATO in two powers and the rest are all slotted based on advice given here. It's a very expensive build, but it rocks. I can do a large SL farm at 4x8 and never take a scratch and my end bar never moves. It's very solid and easy to grind 4x8 SL, but it's slow as I have one primary aoe and one from the T4 judgement. So it takes a long time. That is why I was interested in creating an alt better suited for SL farming.

I took the ss/elec alt out of AE for a spin. I slotted endurance reduction level 35 generic IOs. One in each attack and two in each defensive toggle and one in the ancillary powers like tough, weave, manouvers, combat jumping. I counted, I think, about 15 endurance reduction. Each defensive toggle also had 2 or 3 level 35 IO for resist damage, and my attacks have similarly level 35 IOs for attack and accuracy. Not impressive slotting, but good enough for a test drive, pre-50 kind of thing.  It did not perform well at all. I could barely do two attack chains before running out of endurance and my health bar was constantly going very low. I was only fighting +1 or +2 groups of maybe 3 mobs in the upper right corner of Croatoa. I was disappointed in the build at that point.

It must be a build that only really shines when level 50 and decked out with ATO and other expensive sets? I only have about 100 million on hand, so I just used generic level 35 IOs to see if I could get a feel for it. I will either have to plow on and gain more levels and hundreds of million more influence, or possibly abandon the experiment.

A couple guildies have SS/Elec mains, the only thing I've ever seen tougher is x/stone, but that's like molasses.  They're quite well IOed.

Spines fire can be better than Rad but it requires the user to line up throw spines to hit more targets.  For lazy people like me Rad ends up being better.

And yes it takes out bosses faster as you will likely only have 1 single target melee attack on either and Lunge does less damage than Radioactive Smash

If you just jump vertically and activate Throw Spines, it hits everything. Had been doing that since issue 5 with my Spines/Regen.
