shomaplayz Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Greetings everyone, First of all, a huge thanks to the homecoming team for giving us the possibility to play again the game ! I wanted to know if there was any possibility to give us back the language choice ? I am not very sure of all the different translations that existed, but i personally as a french player would really love to see again the game in french. The localization was here until a very late update (maybe something like issue 23..). Most of my friends would like to play on homecoming servers but they don't understand english quite well. If it doesn't represent too much work to just 'restore' what previously existed on the game, i'm sure every people of the concerned languages would be very grateful ! Thank you for considering my topic.
jkwak Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 i like to see localization to, if the needet files still exist i m a german playerand my friends dont really underastand english back to the Zukunft @Jkwak
gilce Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Same here : my wife doesn't understand English so this is quite harsh for her should she play on her own. Hopefully, as we play together, I can help her. Though I doubt this could be possible, it would be great and let us play in a more comfortable way. I also doubt this could be sustinable in the long run for a small team such as Homecoming's compared to NCSoft's. It would be too time consuming translating everything they could add into the game. This is the reason why I would favour some semi-localized shards (which I actually already asked for in another topic) : everything would be the same as the other shards from a dev's point of view except the communities who would be French speaking or German Speaking players, like we once had Zukunft and Vigilance. No real need for more, since these two communities are the only ones to have their own server in the original game, thus the ones that might be the most uncomfortable with full English speaking servers. This would allow for a more comfortable experience of the game for non English speaking players given their own language would be widely used. It would be much more convenient to ask for help for instance, as it would allow AE mission arcs dedicated to these communities. This could also be the difference between a failed mission and a successful one, particularly for task forces if a non English speaking player is unable communicate with the others.
Erydanus Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Just so you guys know, the code they're using is what happened to be on the main Test Server when the game was cancelleld i24 beta), with the work finished by 3rd parties in the years since (our i25). The other language versions are probably 100% lost and would have to be retranslated from scratch so perhaps a different group will take that on. See me on Excelsior as Eridanus - Whisperkill - Kid Physics - Ranger Wilde - The Hometown Scrapper - Firewatch - and more!

I get the idea, but the localisation really disappeared a short time before servers shutdowns, just a fews months before. I'm not sure of the update we were at, but it was probably i23. I don't know how the game is coded, if the translation have been removed from i24 or just disabled with remaining traces in the game files... Even if nobody own a i23 client, maybe with the original CDs we could hope a partial translation :/
shomaplayz Posted May 11, 2019 Author Posted May 11, 2019 Hello again, i'm sorry but i would really appreciate a clear answer about this from the homecoming team if possible...
Microcosm Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 If the translations are lost, as long as localization is a toggle somewhere in game then I'm sure there would be a group of people willing to help translate over some things. Inspiration maker's guide
Healix Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 It would be lovely if there was a EU section for French, Spanish, etc. threads for our world friends Forever grateful to be back in my city!
HuffyGML Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Hey i'm new there (but i'm an old one on CoX) and i may help to translate to french if someone needs some.
Chance Jackson Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I'm not a programmer but I don't see why everything needs to be re-translated, wouldn't people just need their own localized files from before the shutdown & for score to support such people?
Prototelis Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 There are a couple of groups working on Localization. The code is not "lost" Its just difficult to reimplement and update certain parts of the game that were not already localized.
City Council Widower Posted May 23, 2019 City Council Posted May 23, 2019 I understand that for our French colleagues, the Vigilance people (from whom our dear French GMs have come) are working to restore the French localization. You can find their forum here. If anyone knows of an organized German community (or Spanish or something else, I suppose) please let us know - we're happy to talk! "We need Widower. He's a drop of sanity in a bowl of chaos - very important." - Cipher Are you also a drop of sanity in a bowl of chaos? Consider applying to be a Game Master!
