Electric Melee / Shield Defense how much is enough?

IneptAdept

Recommended Posts

I have 57.7% Melee Def, and essentially 45% Ranged and AoE.  S/L resistance is at 75%.  I know that a brute can go up to 90%, but hopefully he will be fighting a lot 🙂  Is this a good build, or did I miss something obvious, or are there tweaks to make it better?  I think I am fine, but I am interested in what people think.  Thanks.

That is way, way too much melee defense.

Why are you aiming for so far over the soft cap?

Yes and no.  The more he has, the less susceptible to Cascading Defense Failure they are.

And it may just be an unintentional side effect of their build process.

And, looking at it, it is.  He's actively hunting up S/L Resistance and getting lots of additional S/L/Melee Defense.

That being said, Not sure why there's 2 slots in Hurdle.
Yank it out and stick it in Combat Jumping.  Toss in a Def/End.
Go Agility for Alpha.
You should have basically NO problems with Endurance.

In my place I might forgo one of the Obliteration sets (since you're already so S/L/Melee Defense-rich), even if you lose some S/L Resistance out of it and go Armageddon + Force Feedback proc in one of your AoE Teleport attacks.

Also KICK >>> Boxing!
At least with Kick you can slot an FF proc in there!

The hurdle slot was a "where do I put my one left-over slot?" which I should have announced in my post.  I love fighting Romans in ITF, but their Def Debuff hurts, a lot.  I guess I need a reminder of what soft cap and hard cap means, as I have forgotten a lot.  Thanks for your suggestions.

True but adding a slot to Hurdle gives almost no utility, given that you can't really put anything decent set-wise in there. You'd probably be much better served putting that someplace else, ideally someplace it can help you get a decent bonus.

I'd describe the melee defense as 1.3% too little, rather than way, way too much. 🙂

Soft cap defense means your defense has lowered most enemy chance to hit you to as low as it can go. Any more defense will not change their chance to hit you. The soft cap for normal enemies is 45% defense, for incarnate enemies is 59%. Defense beyond those numbers can be situationally useful when dealing with defense debuffs, or the occasional enemies with higher to-hit like snipers, maybe other situations I'm not thinking of. Exemplared down and running +6 content? I did that once.

Hard cap resistance is 90% on Brutes. No matter how much more resistance you pile on, the game won't apply any more than 90%.

Doesn't having a Force Feedback proc in your Kick imply that you want to actually use kick to get that proc off ??

It might imply that the only situation in which we'd ever use Kick is when radically recharge debuffed, in which case a big buff to recharge might be the most useful thing to us. I never thought of it before, and I don't know if that was the intent, but suddenly it sounds like a good idea. 🙂

LOL, yes. If I were doing Shield Defense, I'd be shooting for 59% melee (incarnate soft cap), 46.5% ranged and AoE (one small purple from incarnate soft cap). But Agility can get us there, and slightly past, so then I'd probably back off of powers or set bonuses very slightly in favor of other things in the build. Hard to say.

But it's a 10% proc, if you are full recharge debuffed, im pretty sure you there are better things to do with your remaining endo than try to proc a 10% thing off a useless move

Against some mobs your recharge can get totally floored.  You use every single regular attack you have and are staring at a bunch of tiny dots waiting for them to get bigger. At those times I'll take a small chance at having the proc hit.

I'll stick to eating my blue cookies in those situations instead of hoping on a 10% thing. At least you don't need to spend any powers or slots on this, just a bit of money on an enhancement

Blues do nothing for your recharge and would be even less needed if your recharge is floored as you would not be attacking. Purples however would at least potentially reduce getting hit with more debuffs unless you are at the soft cap already.
