For someone who's not yet into "fine tuning the numbers", Will this allow itself to be installed into another location without interfering with the existing version that I have? Since you mentioned the "messes with old builds" that I'll need to sort out.

Just the basics to check first: Make sure the game is not installed to a system controlled folder (My Docs, Downloads, Program Files, etc) Best choice is something like C:\Games\City of Heroes The game is portable in that you can drag the whole folder to a new one, but make sure to correct your shortcuts if you do (desktop link, the MODs app if you're using it, etc) Whitelist the Game folder in your AV/Firewall Most know this by now, but people have said that some AV's definition updates are mucking things up When downloading Anything, it's possible for things to get corrupted, but this is pretty specific. I've seen it mentioned before on the forums, so a quick search for say "data files" may prove helpful until the next GM browses through.

Any Updates on the "no streaming" rule?
WanderingAries replied to jackalcoh's topic in General Discussion
I see this being locked by Monday, but just because other servers don't care to risk the chance of being squished doesn't mean HC does anytime soon. They took a risk as it was when they began their journey and have made Every effort to bring the game back well and beyond what we can see. I understand what people who stream are getting at, but I'd be willing to bet that those who read their streaming platform EULAs may find that it violates even That platform's guidelines. -
Allow a character to be in more than one supergroup
WanderingAries replied to garvisdol73's topic in Suggestions & Feedback
This is basically an extension of the many "we need more base storage" threads where essentially the same requests have been made. I feel your pain, but there are many reasons this won't work and they all revolve around the base code of the game. Something they won't be able to solve unless they rebuilt it from scratch. -
Windows 10 intermittently making number row unusable.
WanderingAries replied to SableShrike's topic in General Discussion
I had an issue for a while (not sure it was a Win10 issue) where the taskbar being on auto-hide would cause the area where it was to become unusable in FS mode. Additionally, you are able to tell the notification center to be quite during certain situations and times. -
Someone mentioned that you can right click and check the system properties on the app to see if it's being blocked (and then unblock it). It was likely a definitions update that triggered it.

[Guide Referal/Request] Power Slotting Optimization
WanderingAries replied to WanderingAries's topic in General Discussion
Heh, I tend to slot Acc first, then DMG, then Rech in most cases that have them. I remember well before the temp attack powers when that was a more deadly issue than it is now. Now a days, you use the temp attacks as your attack chain fillers as you level up. -
Yeah, I've done that a few times testing out what filetypes browsers will open. :p

You mean like the sign for the gaming stores and actually good restaurants that are no longer there. 😞 -
That makes sense as that's how they'd manage localization voices (if introduced).

Checking the AV was a good start as is your general firewall options, but checking your network settings on the device is good as well. @GM Tahquitz, you always seem to know something about networking.

[Guide Referal/Request] Power Slotting Optimization
WanderingAries replied to WanderingAries's topic in General Discussion
Nice, all good things to look into when I get a chance. I've been around since i2, but somewhere around i13 (I think) I took a break for a little while and kind of lost a lot of understanding. I tend to get most of the concepts, but, like many, get lost in the numbers more often than not. I do know that there's always been some powers where you kind of want one of each slotted and others where just a recharge is sufficient as the power doesn't seem to give a good reason to slot anything else (the trade-off between slotting your attacks vs lesser powers). I'm not sure I'll Ever get into sets TBH as I'm pretty casual and tend to Solo (unless requested otherwise), so I've mostly dealt with SOs for simplicity. Well, that and the upper tier powers. -
I'm not entirely sure what this would be called, so I'll go with the above. I also need to note that I'm not actively looking to mess with this, but I'd like something I can read back on later. Essentially, I'm looking for a sort of guide that helps with choosing the "best" case for slotting on a per power basis (not a small request) as I'm notorious for slotting things more than necessary or with Enhancements that end up being pointless. Also, to minimize the headache, let's stick to Regular Single Origin based slotting as I'm more concerned about how effective the actual enhancements are. Sure, there's Mids, but that doesn't seem to help if you don't understand what's pointless or not. I'll try for an example: Midnight Grasp accepts Accuracy, Damage, Endurance Reduction, Immobilization, Recharge Reduction, and To-Hit Debuff. Now, MY instinct is almost always to go with one of each for powers like this that have a large variety, give or take the amount of Endurance the power seems to take, but it may be that say Recharge Reduction could be pointless as some powers recharge super fast. Taking into account that I generally take triple slotted hasten as my Auto (or not if it doesn't matter), do we have a guide that covers something like this? If not, can we maybe get something that covers a power-by-power as a guide from somebody that understands the numbers very well? Acknowledging that how many slots you allocate depends on the power choices and character focus, I still feel like there has to be a +/- baseline for most powers on what is useful/essential and what is optional/pointless in most cases. A guide like this would be pretty big and likely in a PDF format or split into individual powerset guides.

If this had been an actual poll, then information would have been provided to give members some arbitrary choice based on limited information. Again, this is only a test

Homecoming Server Background Information
WanderingAries replied to Glacier Peak's topic in Website Suggestions & Feedback
Nice idea, but I'd perhaps avoid posting the "founding of" until all the NCSOFT stuff (finally) allows for an official approval of said servers. -
Feel free to use either (Old/New), but this is easier usually:

Heh, I'd be doing the same if my funky config didn't basically break it, but for "normal" people, it's not a problem. 😉

About what you Might be seeing WRT the permissions. There's this thing about APFS where it treats volumes rather funky as an effort to prevent intrusion. You have a single (wrong word) group of sub volumes all within a single one. Generally, you shouldn't see more than the "Catalina - Data" volume (Yours appears to be called Macintosh HD) as that's the User modifiable volume. It also has a "Update" and "Catalina" volumes as well. AFAIK, you can't really (easily?) modify either of those (and probably shouldn't). I tinkered a while when I first noticed them and realized anything you put into the protected OS volume was wiped out on next boot. That said, if you're on an HFS+ formatted volume, then ignore all of the above, but consider changing to APFS for a list of benefits I don't know off hand. If you haven't already, go ahead and boot into Recover (Command+R at startup chime), then use Disk Utility to run First Aid on your drive to make sure everything's fine (it'll fix or complain it can't) at that level. Now if you don't mind not being able to personalize it too much, then you could download the latest Windows ISO from MSFT and install bootcamp. That would (hopefully) knockout most of your problems as you'd be running Completely separate from the current OS and permissions. The process is straight forward, you've got Plenty of HDD space, and you've already tried most of what I can think of so far. Give Windows like 256 GB - 512 GB just in case you use it more in the future.

Very true, You can get a decent KB for cheap and a good (not great) monitor for <$100. Only downside is now you've made a desktop. That said, laptop KBs aren't that much usually, but the LCD screen is hit or miss. All in all, I've done a task like this and it ended up being a couple hundred in parts.
