  1. "I assure you my good man, Nemesis is definitely 'down with the street'. Word up my homie, as it were". Lt. Ferguson
  2. In the current context, the origin is generally attributed to Dungeons and Dragons. Dude! What are you talking about?! Being this is a question in a game forum, the current societal precept seems obvious in this situation. As you say, it depends on the context. This is true. However, there are few if any real world costs in our current context. Giving my Barbarian a 3 intelligence probably won't effect anything beyond his skill points and dialogue options Yep! Some don't care a whit about min/maxing in game terms. So It's also true that it's human nature NOT to min/max. Your example isn't the best here as the benefit and cost are rarely a consideration in that context. Indeed. All kidding aside, thanks! It was an interesting read.
  3. This has always been my interpretation of min/max. I'd also add any computer game in which you can allocate points towards stats: Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Pillars of Eternity, and Knights of the Old Republic come to mind. The closest I can think of regarding City of Heroes is taking and/or slotting a power with a set bonus you have no intention of using while skipping or underslotting powers that may be useful in some circumstances.
  4. Agreed. Many of my characters are Latin derivatives. I also recommend looking up examples of descriptors, adjectives, adverbs, and even nouns as descriptors (ex. Calamity Jane). Place names can be cool (ex. Brooklyn Brawler). Using doctor, agent, Mister, Miss, sister, brother, and other examples before a name can work too. If I'm still stumped after exploring those options, I've either used a made up name (a couple are random elven names from a DnD site) or a portmanteau.
  5. Whether intentional or not, your posts are riddled with loaded language, most often subjective. In other words you're doing the exact thing you're accusing others of. Which makes them react. Which makes you react. Which makes them react. And around and around we go. I have no idea if that's cognitive dissonance, tribalism, or FUD, but it does explain the stronger reactions to your posts. As for your substantive arguments, when I realized City of Heroes was playable, I had two choices(that I knew of). So, the first thing I did was check out the forums. I chose the Homecoming team because they seemed more organized, had clear goals, advocated a PG-13 atmosphere, and wasn't motivated by greed. It was an easy choice for me. Would I like new power choices? Sure! But it's not a priority for me. I have 40 Alts and still have sets I haven't tried. Stability is more important to me. An active Dev team with clear and stated goals is more important to me. If every shard had the same priorities, then I could see shared changes. Call it ego if you will, but the HC team is under no obligation to share anything with anyone, and I'm ok with that. If that makes me a lemming in your eyes, then so be it.
  6. In retrospect, my second sentence was unnecessary. I can see it as being a bit passive-aggressive. I could just as easily expounded a bit with something like 'It's unfortunate it's typed defense, but that 9.75% is pretty good. With three slots, Weave, Combat Jumping, and the two Unique defense IOs, it's around 30% defense to Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative Energy which is pretty easy to soft cap with a few IO sets(although the best are a bit expensive). On my Willpower characters, this allows me to use the other IO sets to concentrate on Smashing/Lethal defense and resistance.' Or something like that, I wouldn't consider myself a master builder. Anyway, let's all be friends here.
  7. It has 2.48% defense to smashing/lethal, 9.75 defense to fire/cold/negative energy/energy, +perception, and defense debuff resistance. Seems the opposite of useless to me.
  8. My first was a Katana/SR scrapper. The first dozen or so levels were a blur. My most vivid memory was running through the streets in Steel Canyon. I looked up at the skyscrapers and saw someone super jumping between the buildings. I'd never seen anything like it. Needless to say, my next power choice was super jump.
  9. I've actually been thinking of trying to start a TO/DO/SO only static team for a while now. Perhaps generic level 25 IOs too.
