  1. If you see a character you think needs to be brought to our attention please put a ticket in so we can see it and take action if we need to. That's the quickest way of dealing with it
  2. In fairness to Thiery he is totally correct. We spend time as lowbies smacking on Skulls, but you get a mission in Atlas at high levels and the poor woman getting her bag snatched is on her own. Powerful heroes walk past her without a second thought and she's on her own. I was in Kings Row yesterday and walked past three cops getting beaten by their own night sticks and I didn't even look twice at them.
  3. Hi everyone Just to clarify, the HC Wiki is run by Michiyo who hosts it on their own with no financial help from the main Homecoming team or monthly donation window. If you can, any donations would be gratefully received. I can attest to Michiyo's integrity and honesty, so any money donated will only be used for the costs associated with hosting and running the wiki. As GM's we find it invaluable to helping players navigate what can sometimes be a complicated game. We use it all the time when we get tickets asking about things from mission difficulties to badge locations. There are a small dedicated group of players who go through and edit old information up to date and add new information when we change or add stuff. Michiyo and their team recently went through adding links to badges and places of importance so you can just click the copy button and paste into the game for a pin to appear on the map. I think many of us would be lost, or have a much more difficult time if it wasn't there.
  4. I think the main problem is people really aren't that interested in PvP. Some people have tried to get players excited by organising events and ended up receiving so much hate and abuse they gave up. While smack talking and abuse to your opponent is perfectly fine and a well crafted insult is a joy to behold, some people took it too far and followed it up in emails and private messages. I don't think extra player rewards would ever happen though. The devs allowed a PvP character to be created at level cap which I think is as much as you are going to get. At the moment you get a decent player balance, but once there are rare rewards you just know the person with the farm alts will throw as much inf as they can to make the most min/max alt possible so they can dominate and suck the joy out of what should be a fun part of the game. It's not as bad as pay to play in retail games where someone will throw vast amounts of real money at a character for the absolute best loot, but it's still something that while in the rules of the server is against the spirit of the event.
  5. The film makes no sense. There are plot points that get lost in the edit, and some of the deleted scenes are way funnier than what stayed in. They also had to totally reshoot the ending as the original ending was awful and audiences hated it. Which is fair. The original ending is on the DVD and it's really bad. Still a great movie though 🙂
  6. History is full of abominations. Much of our medical and scientific knowledge is grounded in the suffering of others. The hard ethical point is that experiments and research has to be peer reviewed and replicated. A lot of "breakthroughs" have been faked and debunked when other scientists try to recreate the experiment. How can you do that when the research is obtained unethically? We are also in an age where opinion is as valid (in the minds of some people) as actual proof. The covid vaccine is a good example. Lots of misinformation about the vaccine spread like wildfire, and most of it was made up out of whole cloth. So many people jumped on the bandwagon that it was a new, untested and experimental vaccine, when the reality was very different. Scientists have been creating SARS vaccines for decades and the research is very much out there. Covid is SARS-COV-2, and just like the influenza virus it didn't take as much effort to modify the existing research to take into account the new variant as it would to create a vaccine from scratch. The difficulty with covid is it's rate of mutation, but even that seems to have slowed down as it stabilised. Flu mutates every year and the vaccine you get is targeted at the most likely variant to spread. Sometimes they get it wrong and have to create a new vaccine, but most years they get it right. That doesn't stop people from thinking crystals, aromatherapy and horse medicine is a viable alternative.
  7. I like Drinker, he's mostly on the ball as is Doomcock. Some of the others tend to err too much on the right wing side of the spectrum (not to the crazy end) which is their right but they tend to be a bit more biased. The best one is Ryan George and his pitch meetings. Those almost always hit it spot on. I just don't get how Barbie and Oppenheimer ended up conflated. Wildly different movies with wildly different audiences. I'm more Barbie myself, and can't think of anything more dreary or tedious than a jingoistic biopic by a director I've never enjoyed a single film from. Yes even Batman.
  8. I'll give America it's due for the Pacific side of things, that was horrific and there was much suffering. America took the brunt of that with support from the other allied powers, but sadly it wasn't as much as it needed due to them being busy this side of the Atlantic. From what I understand it was a damned if you do and damned if you don't with the Atom bombs. Japan would never have surrendered and would have had to be subjugated completely or annihilated. Their code of honour was such that they wouldn't have accepted any other result. Until Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That showed them that annihilation was on the table and America was done playing. If they wanted it to end America would accept the surrender. If they didn't America would bomb them so hard there wouldn't have been a country left. Germany had surrendered, Europe was winding down, but there was an alliance that would have stomped all over Japan and left a greasy stain now they were free to help. The bombs were vile, but they saved a lot of lives in the long run. America held to the adage "Only make a threat if you are willing to follow it through". We non Americans often joke about how Hollywood always shows America as the saviour of the world, but without America as an ally the world would be a very different place.
  9. I don't know if that film will be as popular outside the US. Everyone I know has zero interest in it. American biopics and revisionist history generally have a smaller appeal in the rest of the world. It might do well because of the hype, but from what I've read there doesn't seem to be much (if any) reference to the work done by the UK and Canada before the Manhattan Project was formed. Not to take away from Oppenheimer and his team, or the abominable way he was treated afterwards, but contrary to popular media America didn't single handedly save the world while the rest of us looked on in admiration 🙂
  10. Discord can be useful for a more immediate reply. GM's hang about on there a lot more so if you ping @game master the chances of instant help increase. We don't always see tickets quickly. There are also discussion channels for different aspects of the game, plus voice channels so you can invite people to a team and chat to them in real time if you wish without any specific apps. The disadvantage to Discord is it scrolls up endlessly and posts get lost in the mist of time. Forums are more useful for debates or bugs or suggestions. As for other iterations of CoX. They have their own discord channels. We use one for Homecoming and it's exclusively ours. Players have their own discords too, and a lot of the big SG's and roleplaying groups have ones specifically for themselves so they can plan events, hang out and do whatever they do without any interference or oversight from the HC team.
  11. I know, I don't mind his posts and he does generally drip with sarcasm, but some people do actually believe the things he says in jest.
  12. It's not that I'm against sarcasm, but it's a point of view that some people actually hold so putting the record straight doesn't hurt. I've genuinely had abusive DM's stating that we have ruined the game for the player and that one change has destroyed their life. It got particularly bad when the changes came through for fire powers and AFK farms suddenly became lethal overnight. You'd think our dev team had publicly sacrificed puppies to the great god Imhotep the way some people reacted.
  13. Things change. That's the nature of things. Our team tries to look at what is underperforming or is bad and make them comparable to others. Constantly calling it power creep and demanding everything is set in stone and is never changed again is not helpful or productive, and frankly isn't going to ever happen. Even Rebirth, which prides itself on minimal changes from live, has updates and changes, though not as big or as many as other servers. We could of course walk away and just maintain a version frozen in amber like a lot of legacy games do, but the reason we are popular and the biggest server by a long way is the fact we have a dynamic team that works hard on stability and balance. If people don't like that they are free to go find another server to play on more to their liking. That's the beauty of it. There are so many flavours of the game that if you don't like one version there are others out there easily accessible that may be more to your liking. We don't generally discuss other servers or what they do for their players as it's not fair to them and they don't have a right to respond, but we don't have any bad feeling towards them and actually think their existence is a good thing. Players have options if they don't like the direction one is going in to try a different one.
  14. We can, but screenshots and chat logs attached to tickets are very helpful and let us react quicker
  15. See. I'm the kind of person who wouldn't really care and would pick that piece out of spite and eat it in front of her. A licked finger? Baby I've had much worse than that in my mouth in my time 😛 Plus I'm not bothered by other peoples germs. I've probably got more on my finger than she has!!
  16. I have 49 alts. I have deleted far more than I've kept, and I've stripped the deleted alts of everything of value. 39 of the alts are incarnate tier 4 and retired. I have 2 farmers but I use them for levelling not inf as the inf I get from teaming is better. I also have a base full of useful enhancements and sets so it doesn't really cost me that much to slot new alts. Considering how many purple sets I have on all those retired alts I dread to think how much inf I'd have if I sold them 😛
  17. You'd think that, but sadly we can't grant stuff to ourselves any more than we can to players
  18. I have Fairy Nuff, Hairy Fairy and Airy Fairy. Also Glossy Box, but never got any sexual inuendo tells so was slightly disappointed 🙂
  19. I went through all my alts and collected the inf and merits. I now have 1.8 billion sitting in my global emails and an alt I use as a mule for the merits. I currently have 68 hero merits in his inventory
  20. You find out all those answers as you go through the game. The clones were created by someone you later meet, From the dimension they came from, and you learn a lot more about the oncoming storm at higher levels
  21. You missed selling everything not nailed down in the Auction House then emailing yourself the inf. I sell all the enhancements, converters, catalysts etc. I just save the rare enhancements like purples and PvP and procs, the rest are just clutter. Convert vanguard merits to merits, convert merits to enhancement converters, pop those on to the AH for 10 inf each, grab the cash, voila!!
