Great replies all, thank you. π First off, Sir Snarky... getting to level 38 in like... 30 mins?!? Holy, that's some grinding you got going there (even by using a 2nd account it appears); mucho respect... though that is really not my cup of tea, as I really do just enjoy playing the game itself and not PL'ing the character (heck I still love playing the single digit lower level's lol). Interesting idea though, just doing 4 DFB's & TF's up the whazoo; might be something to think about, thank you. And @Sir Myshkin... the Sentinel is an interesting concept indeed, for all the reasons you stated. I have never used Energy Aura before however, so my experience/knowledge of it is fairly next to none. So how would a Rad Blast/Energy Aura Sentinel be actually? And how is Energy Aura as a whole? Might have to do some more research on it, especially seeing as (from what I hear) Sentinels are nowhere near "top tier" as far as either their primaries or secondaries goes. Any input anyone has on the combo, especially on a Sentinel, would be helpful, thanks... π And finally @ranagrande, it is very interesting and ironic that you would mention a Kheldian. Because not only did I not think of it at all (and yes, a human only Peacebringer would fit nicely), but last night as I was sleeping, I had a dream where he was in fact that; talk about symmetry. lol Of course, there would be the pesky Quantums and such to deal with, which can be definitely annoying as hell (though I do think I have a keybind saved somewhere that would look & target them specifically first), but having played one for a bit in the past, I did find it enjoyable. The question(s) is, how is a human only Kheldian nowadays; especially for solo play? Is it still a viable way to go, and more importantly, "powerful" enough to take on most things in the game, survive, and be of good use on teams? Great idea though @ranagrande! So add that one to the list too... π * Kheldian: Human only Peacebringer In either case, thanks for all the thoughts, replies, and ideas so far guys! And please, keep em' coming too... π

Thanks for the imput @Sir Myshkin. A Unicron type character is sorta hard to nail down right, in such a way to give it that "mass feeling of presence" as you said. That being said though, Unicron (as I mentioned) is more of a distance character than a in your face melee one. Or think of it this way... Galacticus (who Unicron is very much like btw) can do both... melee and range... but he would rather destroy you at range than otherwise.... BUT, if you get in close, he is more that willing to give you a beat down. Then when he knocks you back due to it, he will go back to blasting you to atoms lol. Hence, why I was thinking of a energy set that did mostly ranged/control/x-ray eyes, with a touch of melee... just in case. π
-
Thanks Snarky, I didn't think of making him a Tank (or brute). The only issue is, Unicron is more of a ranged attacker than a melee type character, even though making him a Tank would certainly make him the most durable. Interesting idea though, thank you. π A question though... the Ancillary power pool is the only way I can get any form of "eye beams", right? I only ask because I really, really don't want to wait until at least level 35 to give him them. Usually it wouldn't be an issue, but as I don't/can't play as much as I even used to (and I can't stand power leveling, or door sitting... most times), that is something that would take way too long for a poor fool player such as me. π Another good idea for thought though, thanks Snarky... π

Hi all... Having altitis, and loving it (lol), I am working on a concept character based on Unicron, from the Transformers series; specifically the one from the Transformers: The Movie (1986)... well, movie, when he first appeared onto the scene. I have his look basically down, though of course NOT an exact replica (of course), but I am sort of stuck on what AT to give him, and what power sets. As I want him to have the ability to fire energy beams from his eyes and have some sort of melee attack too, that sort of leaves me with the following options... * Blaster: Radiation Blast/??? (Atomic?) * Corruptor: Radiation Blast/??? (Radiation Infection?) * Dominator: ???/Radiation Assault * Sentinel: Radiation Blast/??? Using Radiation, in the above forms, does give him X-Ray eyes, which would fit the bill of him being able to fire energy beams from his eyes, but I am nowhere near set on it as I "think" there is a power pool I can tap into which would give him a similar eye attack (or am I wrong here?). So I come to you all seeking your wise counsel... What AT/power sets would you think would make for the beest "Unicron" type character? I do want him to be very effective during solo play, as well as good on a team to of course, without sacrificing the "theme" of the character concept. Also remember, Unicron is the Transformers version of Galactus (from Marvel), so he's gotta be powerful against enemies (at least in looks lol). So what do you all think? I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas, so thank you in advance (and btw, everything is on the table here... so long as it doesn't break the character theme π)...

I may have found the Unicorn! Ice/Dark Corruptor

Oh... Thank you Snarky. Took me a while to put together just right... (I am a old, old hand at character design looks... π) -

Ok... In honor of Sir Snarky, and his great Undead idea self, I have made a Ice/Dark Undead character of my own (to try out). May I present to you... Count Ebon... π Of course, he's on hero side, so I guess that means he's Snarky's black sheep brother, huh..? lol π Oh well... As the old saying goes... "That's the way the Undead crumbles!" lol -

I may have found the Unicorn! Ice/Dark Corruptor
BjorJlen replied to Snarky's topic in General Discussion
Actually, I think that picture sums it up quite nicely. I mean Vamps tend to "get a life" to feed off, so as to "live" the Undead life, so yeah. π But yeah, way to go @Snarky! Get down with your new single target, no-melee, super hold, undead self, and let the good times roll! π -
Awsome... Maybe someone will now create a plant base Thor then? Ya know, call him (or her) Spiky-T lol...

Interesting topic, though I would say direct copies are not the way to go, despite CoH having won a lawsuit against Marvel long, long ago, over how the game can make semi (or exact) duplicates of established copy written characters (like Wolverine for example). And that includes, Thor the Thunder-Frog (as pictured below. π Instead, do what others above have suggested, and make a spin-off of one's own. Like maybe make a "Wolf" thunder character, or a Headless one. I don't know... be creative; the certainly has enough in it to make some very unique and interesting looks without having to "copy" anyone else's look, established characters or not. π

Ok, new update... Looking into what you said @Number Six (and thank you very much for posting btw π), I did happen to see that a data folder had been somehow created in the hc-bin64 folder, and so deleting it, I then tested Sweet Tea to see if the (64) bit version of the game would launch; and low and behold, it did!π So now everything is running up to specs again as normal, and I couldn't be more satisfied or happy. So thank you very, very, very much for your thoughts @Number Six, as it was the key to getting my issues solved. And also a big shout out to @Arc-Mage, @Bionic_Flea, and @lemming for your replies and assistance too. It just goes to show why you all, and the community in general, is so great. So thank you once more, and now... onto gaming! lol P.S: You can now close the thread if you wish Mods... Thank you...

Hi Bionic... π Yes, Sweet Tea has a very good update & verify function, which I use quite often in fact. And yeah, I have done both with Homecoming on both the (64) bit & the (32) bit gaming options (using the correct manifest of course), and so far only the (32) bit version seems to work, where-as I have been using the (64) bit version all the time, until recently. I only started having issues with the (64) bit version with the new update, which is why I know it's not a Sweet Tea issue per say (especially seeing as the (32) bit version still works). It's all very confusing to me I must say, and a bit annoying to not knowing what's wrong, and why the new update "broke" things. But thank you for the suggestion Bionic; it's always good to get new help and info on a problem (the more the better in fact). π Oh, and no problem Arc... Nothing but respect here for you, and in fact everyone in the CoH community (which is why it's the best around imho). Cudo's... :0

Great; yet another thing the new Homecoming team is changing (presumably). How times have changed lol. Anyways, thank you for your replies @Arc-Mage. While it hasn't solved my issue at all, at least you took the time to reply ande do so looking into the matter. Looks like I'll have to make a "official" request to the Dev's here for some help on the matter, seeing as not one of them has said anything about it as of yet; especially seeing as this issue has come up before from what my own research has shown (with little in the way of a fix for the public I might add, other than to move my CoH folder around). Thanks again... π

Oh and just as a test, I tried logging in (using Sweet Tea of course) via Homecoming (32) bit, instead of the (64) bit, and wouldn't you know it... it worked. Which was strange, as I have never had any issues logging into the (64) bit version before. So please help, as this is really confusing to me. Thank you.

Thank you for your reply, but... no. Sweet Tea is not "just" for Rebirth, nor would it be for any specific server actually. Sweet Tea, as well as Tequila & CreamSoda, were created so as to have alternate launchers for CoH servers in general, such as New Dawn (Cake), Thenderspy, Unity, or even the newest one, Purrgatory. Where as the Homecoming launcher is different; it was created specifically for the Homecoming server, and as such, can not be able to be used to launch any other servers other than this one (as far as I know). In fact, Sweet Tea is considered one of the "safest" one's to use, security wise, which is why I use it, as Tequila (for example) and others are "vulnerable" due to manifest issues. GM Widower & Number Six actually brought this fact up to in 2019 (see the interesting Homecoming link below that talks about it). Also, please keep in mind that not everyone likes using the Homecoming launcher, for one reason or another, which is fine, because there are other options available to CoH players (as there should be imo). In either case, I am still having the issue, so again, if anyone knows why this is happening & more importantly, how to fix it, please share (looking at you also GM's). Thank you... π CoH Launcher discussion:

Hi there. π Last night I tried to log into the game after the update, which I did download, and was unable to. I keep getting this error... File: bin/clientmessages-en.bin Unable to locate bin/clientmessages-en.bin I am using SweetTea, and before the update I was able to log into the game fine, but now... issues doing so. Using the normal Homecomming launcher though, I can indeed log into the game, but I would still like to use SweetTea for it as that's where I have everything else installed to. So please, any help in resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I did search for a solution to this issue here (and via google), but sadly to no avail. π

I never knew her much at all, but from reading her post's she sounded like a nice smart good person. I just hope she is not leaving due to something that was said, done, or otherwise to her from either here on the forums, or in game. It would be better if she just wanted to try something new, cause the way you explained things @Apparition, it "sounded" like she was just sick of something here. Especially when you said she said "Homecoming" specifically" (both on the forums and in game). And to go to Vanilla WoW instead? To me, that doesn't sound so good, but who am I to judge? I think CoH is the best MMO in the world lol. Thanks for the heads up though... Peace...

Bah... I got one better... "Who's on first"? )I'd post the link, but hey I just woke up and am lazy atm lol) Peace...

Thank you for the kind words. It took a while to get the look down, but I gotta say I love the look too. And I am soooo happy now that I finally have a dark set that feels good, is fun to play, and fits her well. Was a struggle, but it finally payed off... Now where's yours @Snarky? lol π (Still wanna see it) Peace...

Greetings all. Well it is yet time again for me to post some of my Character creations as I haven't done so in a while, so without further adu... The first one is a Blindfold, a Mind/Psy Dominator. My SG (The Legion... A great group btw... hi guys!) is going to be running this event this coming Monday (Theater of the mind, an all psi melee/blast, illusion, mind theme), and so as I don't have much experience with Mind/Ill/Psi in general, I created several characters that was a mixture of these sets, and what I came up with was Blindfold. And so far I am liking it immensely... π The second character on the list is the Golden Xun, a Dm/Ea Brute. As I only create concept characters and like to make challenging ones, the concept for her is that she is a super speedster who's mutant powers come from being exposed to tachyon particles. As such I only use Shadow Maul, Sands of Mu, and Flurry of Blows (for the most part) as her melee attacks in combination with other non-melee powers in the sets (like Siphon Life, Super Speed, etc). And so far I like the character very, very much as she is fast as heck, and looks great in a fight (despite only relying on those three melee attacks for the most part, even though they are far from the best)... π And last but certainly NOT least is a character I made in homage to the Super Group I am in, the Legion, so I present to you the Spirit Legion, a Db/Em Blaster. The concept for this one is that it is a magical construct created 1,900 years ago during the height of the Roman Empire at the command of Emperor Hadrian. It has two purposes... one being that it was made to act as the ultimate Legionare and ensure that his armies did not run from battle, and two it was created to entomb the spirit of Da'Kali, the Mayan Demi-Goddess of Darkness. For the longest time I have tried to make some sort of Blaster, Controller, Dominator (etc) with dark powers, but for one reason or another it never felt right to me; until now. And Da'Kali was the character I made and used to try out these concepts and powers. So as I finally made a character who's dark powers I actually LIKE the feel of, and work fairly well together, I wrote this characters bio in such a way as to not only use the Spirit Legion's look as a homage to my SG, but also as to use Da'Kali as well (as I use my 2nd costume slot for her (she comes out every now and then in the heat of battle lol). It was a long haul, but finally I got a Dark character concept and set that works for me... Not to mention that I am finally able to use Da'Kali herself as a semi nod to Sir @Snarky, as I sorta like him being a ornery Vampire... person lol. So even though she is on hero side. being entombed within the Spirit Legion as she is, your not alone anymore @Snarky lol... π So there ya go folks; three (four) characters for you to look over. Now I just gotta post all the others I got lol. Have a great one, and as always... Peace... P.S: @Snarky, let me know what you think of Da'Kali too (and please, show us YOUR Vampire character too while your at itπ)...
