  1. I have experienced the items going wonky when released too quickly, and indeed, many glitches that happen while editing can be resolved if you slow down. However, when I had those problems, there were problems on my end of things that were causing it, not in the editor. Internet speed, a mouse with an attitude, limitations in CPU or memory, all have contributed to this. And it usually means you are working very close to the capacity for whatever limitation is causing the problem. -Dacy
  2. Okay, folks! We did a poll about changes you'd like to see in the editor, how about a poll to see if there is another style you'd like to see presented in the base itself? Like tech, arcane, sewer, etc, style choices affect how the base walls, floor, ceiling, and trim looks. So, if you had to choose from four styles: Arachnos, Ritki, Praetorian Office or Praetorian Tech, what would you favor? -Dacy
  3. Oh, I mentioned that I had another base tour debuting shortly, and here it is: Comments and upvotes appreciated on YouTube so that more people see it, if you feel like being kind. 🙂 (And if it's genuine, of course!) -Dacy
  4. I love this community 🙂 Got a problem? Here come the people who want to help! Thank you all for being AWESOME. -Dacy
  5. Agree some things need resizing, but as for the rest of this: first, remember we’re working with a game that’s 20 years old, has a volunteer work force with limited time, and the base part of the game is complex. It’s doubtful an entire overall could be achieved without blowing up everyone’s bases, and the team doesn’t want to do that. Regarding comparison to the SIMS: in that game, building your environment is at least half the entire game, instead of a quality of life sideline. They could afford to put the kind of resources towards that that you see. We do have one of the most flexible editors in the industry, you can do things with this editor you just can’t even dream of in other games, or really in most games. I’m not saying it can’t and won’t be improved, but you’re never going to see those level of changes. -Dacy
  6. That is not a common bug! I’m not sure what the cause is, but it’s not an editor bug, because I can place anywhere on the screen. I’d have to say, and I’m not an expert on how systems work, but seems like a problem in your system. -Dacy
  7. That is very odd! I have not heard anyone else reporting this. -Dacy
  8. FINALLY Dacy got off her lazy butt and put out another video. Man, that woman needs ...well...less to do, probably. 🥴 It's been a while. Too long. Hoping the next will be out MUCH SOONER. But, here, and I hope you enjoy, these bases are killer. -Dacy
  9. This was one reason I stopped working in LInux, I was having difficulty with editing. Not always, but enough! And then, I can't use my video editing program in Linux. so...now I pretty much stay in Windows. 😞 I'm sorry, -I- don't have an answer, maybe someone who knows Linux really well could help. -Dacy
  10. See the end of my post, "resetting the base does not change this, it is not a ghost." 🙂 It is not persistent. -Dacy
  11. Dacy is actually one of the TWO Community Reps for base building, the other being @Easter Bunny. Yes, I use my own bases. I mostly use them for the convenience of having nearly everything I need all in the same place, plus the salvage so I don't have to go buy each thing I need when crafting. But bases have many uses. Some people use them for RP, some people use them for socializing (in clubs and such), and they can even be used for games. My Witch's House, which I open every year for the Halloween season and do a huge giveaway on Halloween, is more of an experience than anything, like a haunted house + amusement park ride. I have slowly been doing video tours of some of the amazing bases that I know, but, the awesome builders here are outpacing me. So far, I have tours of some of my own bases (excluding the Witch's House, which, as I said, is meant to be an experience, the fun is in the surprise), plus : The Pagoda GHOST-1471 (by @Spirit aka Squidget) , Rat City RATCITY 2259 (by @CrazyCataka Gizmouse) , Sleigh Belles XMAS-7920 (by @Easter Bunny) , Karma KARMA-508 (by @Dropout), Paragon Galleria PSHOPPING-13668 (by @TwentySix aka Pshaw), and coming very soon, RAINYDAY-14113 and SKYHIGH-15065 by @BBBadger). Future plans include showcasing Granny Victoria's Tea Room TEATIME-17990 (by @aalyasenai aka Aalya), Vault Luxe VAULTLUXE-17647 (by @Easter Bunny and @BBBadger with some help from a few others), and I hope Boardwalk BOARDWALK-20034 (by @Wravis/Jibily), All of those except Sleigh Belles are on Everlasting. There are so many bases I've missed; not sure of codes on all of them. I do recommend Shades of Arachnos 315-6811 on Excelsior (by @Gio Valia), and DIVINE-1512 (by @Invigilium). And I need to get out more because that is by far not all of the bases that are awesome. PvP in bases could be a lot more fun and perhaps challenging than in other places. Base raids are a nope, would rather keep bases are they are, because what has allowed us to build as we do was in part, getting rid of the rules that they needed for PvP. Many people want to be able to put foes on a base map; that could make for an interesting custom mission. Base needs: well, see my thread, but we'd really like everything from more building pieces that are basic in different shapes so we can use them in many ways, to smaller letters, customizable NPCs, a copy/paste feature, the end of base shift, the ability to surface map surfaces so we can FINALLY get sand and snow, more walls, doors, door jams, windows, floors, ceilings and roofs...and so many more things. 🙂 -Dacy
  12. The FX on the Praetorian Reactor 3 seem to not be anchored to the inside of the piece. When the item is tipped, the FX glow and steam stay where they were when it was upright. Moving the piece moves the FX, but in the same relation if the item is still tipped. Resetting the base does not change this, it's not a ghost. -Dacy
  13. However, a thought: some SGs may not be recruiting, but people want to find who is the leader or where is the base, so, SGs can list on the SG find list even if not recruiting, and base code info can also be included. This way, if someone is curious about a SG or wants to know where the party is, there's a handy in-game reference for the code. -Dacy
  14. Sounds good to me. Passes the dev concern I know I'd hear about privacy, while allowing information to be more accessible. I'll put in a request, but again, no idea if this is feasible or not, so no promises. -Dacy
  15. What if we asked for a sg listing in game like the team search feature? Leaders would write descriptions like players do for search messages. Maybe they could give the group different colors as in, RP, Villain, Hero, PVE, PVP, mixed, and then flag it if looking for members, not looking for members, and if someone is active in that sg right then, the color is bright, if no one is active, the color is greyer. Now, I have NO idea how pragmatic or possible any of that is, but it'd be nice. Also should list the global of the leader, or they can voluntarily list that in the search comment. Perhaps they could make it so that the most active or most recently active are towards the top of the search. That would be using an interface the players already understand and use. People who didn't want to be included could hide their sg. Maybe they could even tie in the mechanism that deactivates a leader who hasn't logged in in x number of days, and if that flag has been triggered, the sg doesn't appear in the search (because it's assumed inactive). -Dacy
  16. I think an interesting topic has perhaps gotten to the point of being overthought, at least for me. Good discussion. Thanks! -Dacy
  17. This is a MMORPG: Role. Playing. Game. And although it is also “massive multiplayer”, there is a good section of the population that plays solo. In what way do their actions then affect others? Does that not also trash the idea of a game where rules affect others? There are many bases that affect others. My Halloween base is a whole experience. There are clubs where one can mix and mingle and do activities; this, I should think, affects others far more than the soloist playing in solitude, which is more akin to your analogy of playing with dolls, since that is solitary, but mingling is social. Of course, perhaps it’s the anarchy of imagination that bothers you? It was a bit unclear what was annoying you. A lack of rules everyone follows at the same time? The idea that something can be used in multiple ways under different circumstances? Bases and supergroups are tied into the game, and they also tie into and derive from the comic books that gave the inspiration for the game. Your supergroup can be displayed as part of your identity. Your supergroup can be your team, your backup, your own personal League of Justice or Suicide Squad…as long as you don’t infringe on trademarks, heh. Bases are transportation, restoration, storage, a place to strategize, improve your powers, and access missions, none of which requires role play, and all of which connects directly to the game. The fact that they can *also* be used for role play and other fun activities, I think, is a testimony to the flexibility of this game, and a big part of the reason that it’s still beloved and played nearly 20 years after creation. -Dacy
  18. Bases are not necessary to play the game. Bases, like it was pointed out earlier, are an extra like costuming, to flesh out a character or concept. Bases are no more necessary than all of the zone teleporters, mission transports, different ways to fly, run, jump, cosmetic pets...all the little QOL things we like to have. They are convenient. They make gaming easier. They pair nicely with particular concepts and passions. Relevancy is all in how you process things, it's very individual. However, what may not be relevant to some may be indispensable to others. And what you say isn't relevant to the main game, I'm sure is true for you, but I can name a ton of people for whom there is no game without the bases. Batman has his Batcave. Superman has the Fortress of Solitude. The Teen Titans have Titan Tower. (Hmm, DC is much more base oriented than Marvel...) So is it strictly necessary to fight bad guys? No. Is it necessary for some people's character concepts? Yes. And, bases can be, as Arc-Mage said, a whole other world even past that. Interesting discussion. -Dacy
  19. I'm honestly happy to see people with low post counts contributing! I feel like the forums are not visited by many people who'd benefit. But, I haven't been influenced by seeing posts of "trolls" from such folk. At any rate, even tho I don't think bases are irrelevant, I feel it's clearly a fair question from their pov. I'm actually pretty happy that some feel that they get by just fine without bases; for me, even without the ability to create worlds for my characters and others, and for the creative outlet, bases are way too convenient, I get all my services in one spot and I can teleport to it immediately from anywhere. (Well, all but AH, but it's just a step thru the entry to get to that, and pop, back in the base). Unfortunately, there are far more requests to build bases than our base building population can keep up with, so, seeing people say, "Eh, I can live without" eases the tension, to me! I really hate seeing people go without what I consider to be essential equipment. 🙂 I hope to see a lot of low post count posters, to me, that means the game is growing! New people welcome!! And if you're new and you don't know what bases can be...come see me. -Dacy
  20. Agreed. Even tho many of my bases are larger, I prefer a smaller base. I also prefer to build inside the base when possible. The bigger you go, the longer it takes, and the more you risk memory problems with the way the storage is integrated into the base. When we start doing contests, I may make a category of something like, "Coolest functional base under 2k items" or something like that. 🙂 I mean, given the editor, sometimes you have to use up a lot of pieces to get the effects you want, but big just for the sake of big does not make sense to me, especially when there is often, as you pointed out, a lot of wasted and empty space. (None of which, of course, applies to this particular base, or any base just because it is large. It's not about the size, it's how the space is used.) -Dacy
  21. And duh...sorry! lol. Did not notice that. Thanks. 🙂 -Dacy
  22. @Easter Bunny did a great base on Indomitable, XMAS-7920, well worth the trip! I don't have a screenshot atm. Go see it! -Dacy
  23. You follow the directions listed above, the file goes to where your other City files are under "demorecord" or something like that. It's a small text file. You would contact the HC team through a GM if your base was corrupted, and they would get it to a dev who can work their magic to reset it. The only thing you can actually do is have the recording and give it to them, there's nothing you can personally do to restore a corrupted file on the server. -Dacy
