  1. I have used a lot of self restraint and editting in posting here...what I have allowed through the filter is mild...I would have long been banned had I exposed my true thoughts on some of the topics we discuss... You seem to take FUD as some sort of extreme thing, when it can be minor, even as it remains the reason for people to do things, you seem to think it only means 'shaking in your shoes weak at the knees' fear when I use the term...always find it odd...equally odd that you seem to want to go out of your way to pick a fight with me...just odd... FUD keeps humans alive, it keeps us safe from the horrors of the world. It also clouds our judgement and logical thinking, in large and small ways. The only thing I recall right now wanting to be as a kid was The Six Million Dollar Man and An Airplane - for the longest time, I wanted to be an airplane, not a pilot, the plane. Typing that sentence makes me want go make a Steve Austin/Jet Plane Transformer...
  2. To You. Having a unique name is what makes it unique to a lot of people. This has been a 'holy war' in CoH from Day 0. Even at the end of Retail Live, we were still able to make new characters with uniquie and fun/interesting/timely names. It is one of the few places IMO no changes should be made, as it is such a deep part of what makes the game what it is, coupled with the real life problem of actually doing it - the information I have suggests that the unique names are a deep part of the underying code, so a change of this nature might be a lot more trouble than it could be worth - just to piss off the same number of people that feel pissed on... Like so many changes, it is very hard to gauge just how much this is really wanted, with the real potential to cuase more players to leave than to stay...
  3. I understood you perfectly and my previous reply stands. If NCSoft decides the game is worth re-launching and does so, then we have a game. If HC gets to to that, then we have a game. Both are acceptable to me, in that we get a game to play. Both are undesirable to me, simply because it creates another single point of failure, not because of any ill-will toward either entity. I would vastly prefer the game be released like some kind of rule-book like a DnD set, so anyone could pick it up and make shards w/o fear, pipe dream it may be. I have none of this lingering hate/grudge/whatever you want to call it over these things.
  4. Setting aside how over-the-top this is... I chose to not give NCSoft any cash after they dropped CoH and I have not. If they choose to help bring the game back, even if it means *gasp* they make a buck, I am fine with that. Personally, I have no real trust of longevity about anything that is ever contolled by a single entity, because a single point of failure then exists. Thinking HC will somehow magically be 'better' than another single point of failure is not, IMO, wise. Since the HC team is mum on what, exactly, is being discussed, all we can do is wait. Last I saw, NCSoft had filed for copyright to the code. I cannot seeing them give that away for free, so I think NCSoft will be part of the solution. I think the number of people it will turn away because NCSoft is involved will be dwarfed by those that get to play. So, as an individual, one must follow ones heart and mine does not harbor the hate toward companies some do here. I hope you can find a game you like run by a company that meets all of your expectations.
  5. A smaller team works out well IME to add some challenge. As has been pointed out, Incarnates have basically outlevelled PI, just as 50's outlevel Talos, really. IMO, just increasing the +Levels will not do much. Love the ideas of allowing EBs and/or AVs and more varied enemies. In the end, CoH has been way more popular around 'making heroes' than it has been around 'challenge'. MMOs all lose the challenge at maximum optimization. Personally, I specifically choose to play 'characters' and then although I min-max them, I don't go FOTM (on purpose) with any of them. IME, this makes for a nice balance - choose the flaws/weaknesses the character should have from an RP perspective and not just build pefect chess pieces...I get more attached to them and it makes the game more fun. As I always like to point out in these threads as well, if you really want a challenge, play the stock market. Personally, I play games like this to just relax my brain from the real world, I have enough hard choices to make everyday w/o my game demanding them.
  6. Some people cannot help but worry and they come here to vent that worry to have it lessened. It's just not that easy for some people.
  7. Unless there is easy money to be made, corporations don't move terribly fast....
  8. I feel this way every year when school starts and traffic is suddenly a mess. I have never had kids, never been on the school cadence, gets me everytime, suddenly one day traffic sucks for two months while everyone learns new routes and learns to drive to HS. I often forget what I have known for years is new to a whole lot of people. I try to rememebr that when I interact with them...I fail often...
  9. Yup. Just like some people here think clone/homage is 'bad' rather than 'heartfelt', some IP owners are on both sides as well! IMO, the very public response you have of "If you are the IP holder, talk to us" and "If things have to chnage, then they will" is perfect! 'We will cross that bridge IF it appears' is a reasonable stance. It acknowledges the situation and provides clear 'rules' for the moment, using logic and reason. Thanks!
  10. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks! I have been looking for a good melee idea, that is friggin' awesome! (It is a euphamism for something I hesitate to mention on a forum, *wink* *wink*, *nudge* *nudge*, say no more!) I think it needs to be Popeye/Hulk/Barista - yes, Baristas can be Heroes! So is that idea original, or a knock off, FIght!
  11. Stay Grumpy! I run on Anger, Green Hungarian Spinach, and Caffeine most days. Some poeple really hate how much I can discuss a topic, just look at these forums! 😉
  12. Both IME. The issue can only go in a circle, as no one on these forums can give any kind of definitive, world-correct answer to either validate to remove the fear of the Copyright/Trademak Police. Been having this discussion for at least 15-20 years.
  13. Some people like to discuss things? Do you think all forum threads have to end in a bullet list of tasks to be given to someone, or come to some definitive conclusion? The point is for people to converse.
  14. This is the crux of the matter. The reason these opinions matter at all, is because someone, somewhere, pays $ to turn them into Law, or a the very least, Restrictive License Agreements. There is still a huge gap between 'not liking' a world where not everyone can be creative enough to come up with thier characters - a lot of poeple in the world really just don't have much of that spark - and a place where no one can Cosplay as thier Hero due to litigation. There are a ton of characters and names and themes I absolutely detest other people would bring into the CoH happy-fun-time world. I will not name them nor shame them, because my opinion is the issue, not the way they have fun.
  15. This. Precedents matter. CoH is cosplay in the modern world. If the 'big evil coporations' decide that CoH is infringing, they know they have to go after every single MMO. DCUO, SWTOR, STO, they all have clones/homages running around, all the time. These homages/clones can be found in all MMOs, all the time, since I started playing Asherons Call. The only difference is that we have a few more costume parts to make them better due to the awesome character creator. The moment HC or a player starts trying to make $ off of those copyrights and trademarks or starts trying to represent themsleves as the owner, then there is a problem. That has not occured, TMK. If someone wants to live in fear of the 'evil coporations', that is thier choice, I choose not to do so. One of my favorite songs has a line about people being more afraid of credit cards than terror squads. Corporate lawyers want us to be full of fear over these things. I refuse.
  16. I try to remember, the person at the keyboard might be a child or a person with special needs, all kinds of reasons being the Hulk for a little while makes them feel better. Why would I want to take that joy away from another human being? I have dealt with this my enitre life as a hardcore geek. There are some people that see cosplay/homage/clone as evil and wrong. I have simply never understood the outlook, especially in comics where characters get re-written by new faces all the time. IME, many of these same people are the ones that love to argue over minutae about what should and should not be 'official' in thier IPs, something I personally find interesting as a topic, but not as the holy war many make it out to be... I just want people to play and have fun, without the busy bodies and hall monitors telling them they are doing it wrong...
  17. I have reused my 'characters' but they are not always the same ATs and powers as they were at the Retail LIve ending. Like I think lot of RPers, some of the characters I use predate CoH by decades. This time around, I am trying hard to create characters that 'eork' and 'fit' more into CoH, rather than show-horning in my RP world characters. That has been really fun!
  18. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself! - FDR We all make our emotional ties and it hurts to lose things, but IME it hurts more to not even try...
  19. C'mon man! Let them Google all they like, they might learn something!
  20. 'Totally Not A Villian' is also, sadly, too long.
  21. I label FUD when I see it. The OP is trying to get people to be scared of something that there is no reason to have fear over, IMO. It has nothing to do with self-restaint and attempts to use caution as a weapon to instill fear to, in turn, get people to obey. Self-restraint and caution are two of things I live my life by, but I base them on facts, not FUD. It is fear, uncertainty, and doubt being used to make poeple Obey rules that do not exist. Until HC issues a rule, there is no rule. So, I don't think it is approriate for people like the OP to roll in with nothing but vague Fear and tell the rest of us how to be creative.
  22. Yup. The creative elitists that try to shame others for cosplay are the worst of the hall monitors.
  23. I am of lesser intellect because I do not choose to interpret law falsely and try to scare others with the boogie-man? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  24. And many of us players completely and totally do not agree with this outlook, at all. So, no, you speak for you and only you, unless other tell you implicitly you have their voice. This is old, tired, worn out FUD.
  25. Awesome ideas.
