  1. Never too soon for a fresh start though! Perhaps after the lawsuits over the IP infringment, you could live happily ever after?
  2. Both! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Why go half way?
  3. Yup. Make your Fun, with the tools provided, is the better plan. Sure, everyone that plays games would love thier favortie game to get an endless amount of new content...that is just not reality... MMOs especially appeal to a wide audience and therefore IME have more to offer a player willing to set thier own goals.
  4. So if there is a fee to be paid by HC to NCSoft, you will stop playing?
  5. We can and we will, you are not the dictator of thought. Your opinion is not the end-all-be-all of the situation, thanks, you are not even a lawyer TMK. Simply because your opinion differs on a definition of modern cosplay/homage does give it the power change reality. Now you are just arguing that in-game avatars are not cosplay. How about fan-made creations, fan-art, use whatever pedantic term suits you. Bottom line is that until an IP holder says differently, it's all good and IME, encouraged, by the very people you seem to be 'concern trolling' for... So yeah, I will compare these things because it is a valid comparison, regardless of your opinion.
  6. So by this, almost all fan art is to be litigated against and prevented? Really? Loving an IP so much you want to emulate it is a bad thing in your world? Wow. The IP holders I have personally spoken with over the years at conventions, in thier homes, at parties, etc., typically love the fan made creations. Pretty much across the board...so your outlook, based on personal interactions and general infromation, is not one held by most IP holders... 'Do you want to date my Avavtar' comes to mind....
  7. Well @ShardWarrior, while I can accept the fact that sometimes the only answer is 'mean brain chemistry', that answer is not terribly satisfying. ๐Ÿ™‚ Additiionally, until I hear whay from the pepole doing it, it's just an inference. The only answer to why so far has been 'because it might get us shutdown someday', without any real evidence, only FUD. I don't want to claim I know the motives of these posters w/o them reveling those motives themsleves. We can only speculate there, but we can highlight the negative impact these outlooks have on people...
  8. Oh, I am good! I am well aware of the growing pains ahead for the CoH community, many of not most of whom do seem to like change all have an idea of how things 'should' be... For me, like you, it is just a game. I still have plenty of others on the list to play as well. I won't stop asking 'Why?', 'How?', and 'Who?' though, because I am interested in this game, for a number of reasons. ๐Ÿ™‚
  9. And this is someone trying hard, really hard, to put someone elses words in the worst possible light, in an effort to discredit them. Add to that the fact this post continues to insult the creative abilities of others. Why? What is to be gained by trying to mis-represent this data? And again, why should people that simply have less ability or desire to create unique characters in a video game have to suffer such abuse and ridicule? Why?
  10. As the saying goes these days (or at some point, I am old), this x 1000...
  11. But that will not stop many people from finding the absolute worst way to interpret each announcement, sure that the HC team hates fun and the game... I mean, after all, HC gets to be the 'bad guy' now for 'ruining' the game, right? ๐Ÿ˜‰
  12. Ah, the rollercoaster of the rogue server world! Always a thrill-ride! We are still in Year One since the Big Reveal. Fun times ahead!
  13. While at a certain level I agree, the reality is that a lot of players read the forums even if they do not post. It is just a game, but this still holds true, IMO... โ€œThe only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.โ€โ€• Edmund Burke I do in fact, consider the attacks on peoples creativity to be part of the dark tetrad and evil. IP holders have rights, just as NCSoft has really all the rights ATM. That does not mean lighting torches and picking up pitchforks to go after cosplayers is 'right'. ๐Ÿ™‚
  14. Objectionable to whom, exactly? The IP holders are welcome to contact HC is they have an issue. So far, based on the GM responces, this is not an issue. So for whom, exactly, are we trying to 'curb objectionable activities'? IP holders do not want others to make profit or represent themsleves as the IP holder in an effort to dilute market shares. All I see are rapid fans showing love for those IPs, not 'objectionable activities.' The reality is that there is not an issue currently other than busy-bodies and hall-monitors and if an IP holder raises an issue, it wil be dealt with as needed, none of which implies, IMO, a reason to start making rules and restricting the creative output of the players or shaming them for not having the creative abililities others do...
  15. Well, in most every MMO, once you reach the Apex of Power...you have become god-like...the only challenges left are the ones you create for yourself. There is not a single MMO forum I have ever read that did not have this issue. It is simply a function of the type of game this is. As soon as more difficult content gets added, then there will be a call for more powerful rewards and the cycle just continues...
  16. That is a fine explaination of your opinion on the subject. Put simply, not everyone is gifted with the creative abilities you posess. Does that mean they should be faced with this ridcule?
  17. โ€œYou can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you canโ€™t please all of the people all of the timeโ€.โ€ โ€• John Lydgate
  18. That is my whole point. The basic fear of the type of lawsuit that hit the game so many years ago is simply no longer relevent...the IP holders have even taken big PR hits now for doing it. IP comapanies don't typically care that much now unless you are trying to make $ off the property, acting like You own the IP, or actively making the IP 'look bad'. There nothing, nothing that players do in game that would rate any different that a cosplayer at a con. Yet some people hate these companies so much, they live in fear that all of them are predatory. I just try and find real evidence these people can use to lessen thier fear, no one should live in fear of lawyers, IMO. ๐Ÿ™‚
  19. Yeah. Also funny.... So, at the same time we have people advocating we do not make clones and homages, we have people that want to remove the unique name restriction....allowing for more reuse of all names...this community does not speak in a single voice, no where close...
  20. Thing is though, I am on an island. Look at the attacks I get just for trying to remain level headed and fact driven, or, heaven forbid, push for more real data and not be satified and happy with the crumbs given. Yeah, I don't see this 'community' in a terriby positive light these days... ๐Ÿ™‚
  21. There are the creatives that just attack others for not being 'good enough' to come up with new ideas, yes. Most of these threads trying to get clones/homages to stop though are based around the idea Disney will sue HC into irrelevance for 'allowing' players to make homages and clones, IMO. The IP holders would have to go after every single MMO and they know it. There is no reason to do this. So many poeple forget Marvel made it's attack at a time it was almost dead in the water, but still habor hate toward some big company for having sued someone, somwwhere, of an IP issue.
  22. I know you mean well, but some people worry, it is thier nature, they cannot change it. The 'stop worrying' thing may as well be like yelling at a child to stop crying. No such thing in my own worlrd as 'too much thinking', I find that to be a terribly negative PoV, personally. The real fear being shown around this is the loss of the game itself. Some people fear big companies with IP enough that they really think using thier IP will cause the game to be lawered into the ground. IMO, the only way to combat that fear is with facts that condridict the reason for it to be feared. All of the precendents we have right now in modern geeldom, from my PoV, would equate this game, like all the others with homages and clones, as cosplay. HC is apparently in wide communication with NCSoft, based on Tony V's goodbye message, so I think we would have already been told if this was a sticking point for anyone. There is no rule. So right now, other than the vague fear of 'wht if', there are no real facts that support the reason to fear homages and clones, because no one is doing anything different than other games, other IPs, etc. here.
  23. I think some people live to find things to hyperventilate over, honestly.
  24. I have no clue what you are talking about? I have never sent notices to any company, about, well, anything, other than you know, as work, because I build stuff for companies... When did I say this? Where?
  25. Sure, I can see that scenario, but in the eyes of the bigger community, that is failure. Most that play want to do so on a very populated server. I mostly play by myself or with just one friend, who will leave the moment there is not a big server full of people. Having to deal with the stress of being hidden bothers a lot of people as well. The game might still be playable, but to most, it will not really be CoH if the servers are populated like the local MTG playroom...to most players, based on what I have read. My trust list is very short and does include any corporate entity per-se, beyond trusting they will act like corporations. That includes NCSofta and HC. We have no choice right now if we want a game that appeals to the majority, but to play ball at some level with NCSoft. Just like because they have the ball, because of the playerbase, we have to play ball with HC. There are no easy buttons here, just a couple of 'good enoughs', IMO. Even 100% Open Source won't please some, because plenty think that there 'should be only one', they prefer thier IP to have solid 'rules', etc., woth now 'fan modifications'. So in the end, all I hope for is the 'good enough' that makes the most players happy, because that's the whole point, for the game to bring joy to people. No outcome will please all of the players, so I just hope the majority can live with what occurs.
