What are my options for challenging content?
jubakumbi replied to Illy's topic in General Discussion
I agree with this assement. While posed as an innocent question, the fact is this thread was opened with a post that says ''I'm too sexy for your game, it was never really sexy". Then when it is explained that is WAI, challenge in on the inside, not the outside, we get comments like "well, it that's the way you want to play" - a lot like the comment from my father when my mother told him she was pregnent with me - "well, if that's what you want" - totally passive agressive condemnation. It is fashionable on the Internet to tell everyone else how good you are to tlet them know how bad they are at a game, as if mastering a game, especially an MMO, is anything to really be proud of - it is just a video game. Some gamers allow thier competitive side to override thier empathy, IME, and try to use game familiarity as some sort of club to beat other gamers with... -
What are my options for challenging content?
jubakumbi replied to Illy's topic in General Discussion
Every single 'challenge' I see listed is simply a 'punitive mistake system' from my PoV. No challenge, no brain work, just finger presses in the right order, over and over and over. Lots of tedium only challenges our ability to stay awake. I have yet to see an example of the mythical 'challenge' that is desired... -
What are my options for challenging content?
jubakumbi replied to Illy's topic in General Discussion
And? At some point, it's all just hitting buttons and killing pixels, challenges in these types of games are getting humans to cooperate for 5 minutes or setting personal goals. The point is playing and relaxing, it's a hobby not a life-commitment. The challenge in all of these types of games lies with the player, not the game. Look inside, not outside. Raid-progression based games are no different, it's just learning the dance and the key-sequence, it's never a challenge when all the rules are known, just a repetitive task. Try the stock markets if you want a challenge. -
Vet levels after maxing Incarnates?

I think I like this idea, the choosing of a significant number, and mine will be 111. "Today is my one hundred and eleventh birthday! Alas, eleventy-one years is far too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable hobbits. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve." -
I saw no reason to say a word about this particular topic. Could have just said "Summer Time is here and we are working on stuff, will announce stuff Soon, hang in there." I simply have more respect for the players this will upset than I do the ones clamoring for 'info' and 'progress' on a dead game. The fans that think they should have been consulted? Screw 'em, someone will always hate change. If they wanted to be involved that bad, they could put up and call NCSoft and make a deal or contacted you with plans. The armchair laywers can all go jump from my PoV, idle speculation does nothing good IME. There are already posters talking trash about NCSoft over this, so even hinting also opens the can of worms that includes the Internet Hate to flow toward the company. So yeah, the Silence was golden ... to me.

Fair enough. There are simply So Many People with raw emotions around this game, to hint something like this, I see as a grave misstep among many other smart moves. I have no issue with being wrong, but I see a lot of poeple already setting thier hair on fire, and anyone that really knows this community would know that would happen, regardless of caution being advertised. Good luck.

Been in business too long. The deal is not real until after the ink is signed, the money in the bank, and the lawsiuts have all been settled after the first year... 🙂 The community has heard nothing but these kinds of promises for years. I have heard the names Tony V and Titan Network in those too, even if my information is not perfect. IMO, it would be much better to wait until it really is a done deal before engaging what is arguably one of the most volitile MMO fanbases on the planet. You have all done a great job with this, if it comes to frution in a way that everyone benefits, that's awesome, but announcing it before it's baked is just not a move I would have made.

All I see is the same messages that we had years ago before shutdown, riling up the masses with hopes, dreams, and additional arguments over legal minutae they can only speculate on, in the end causing nothing but angst and upsetting everyone. Why not just wait until something is actually a real deal? Why bait people in this way? Just the same old smoke blowing at this point form my PoV. We have been 'in talks' for what, 7 years?

Thoughts on making a Super Strength Scrappers
jubakumbi replied to Ironscarlet's topic in General Discussion
Or big ones, or better ones, or terrible ones. So many possibilities, so little time to write code. Right now there are people turning up their noses at the changes that occured while the game was Retail, when they even think these were added later...who won't play any of the new combos...there is always going to be someone that does not like a change. Screw 'em. 🙂 I anxiously await everything anyone is trying to add or change to make this game better, even if it falls flat and has to be redacted or changed, I don't want to see this thing stagnate if there are people will to tweak it. The only speed bump to proliferating powers in the game IMO is the time and energy to do it, not simply because a few people wiil not like it, or will bitch about the minutae of how it ws done...you cannot please all of the people... -

jubakumbi replied to Ironscarlet's topic in General Discussion
Can, sure. Should? Subjective, IMO. My point is that I can make any combo into a god with the right IOs and build. Just because another combo can do 50% more damage than is needed to do the same thing I can already do - clear the content unharmed - why would I care...why would anyone care what the 'others' do? I see a game to relax and enjoy, others see a thing to beat, others see a thing to beat and then use the way they did it to beat others into submitting to the Meta... Players can get to 50 within a few hours, fully incarnate in a few more, mixed in all the time with lower levels, etc. When is anyone really in some perfectly balanced team anyway? Thus - Thor and Hawkeye. I have no problem with taking a whack at these things to get them in the ballpark of baseline, but c'mon, this is a frickin' video game in which we already become comical gods, with the top dog shifting with every single update ever made to the game. A baseline is fine and all to adhere to, but missing the mark won't ruin the game and things can be tweaked later, as they always are. -

I am totally onboard with not doing a straight port, there needs to be tweaking. Scrapper SS can be bad for all I care, I would still use it as it fits some of my character concepts and prefernces better than Tank or a Brute. As for overall balance, I have to admit, I really don't care all that much. While some relative level of overall balance is nice, IMO, Thor and Hawkeye are not 'balanced'. This does not make either power level is, IMO, more or less fun to play, it just means they are different. I really do not care at all if someone 'feels' like other players can build stronger/better characters - this already happens daily... -

While I understand your point, the constant refrain to support this has in fact been about 'everyone' will do it and it will ruin the game, for the very reason you bring up, because some portion of the playerbase will suddenly 'feel' as if they have 'made a mistake'. To that I say, try and avoid peer pressure and anxiety based envy. If you don't like playing with a character that makes you 'feel' as if you mad e a mistake, don't play with that character. For that matter, don't let the actions of others in game impact you, at all, for any reason. At a fundamental level, IMO, it is terribly silly to think just because someone else can build/has a character more powerful than yours. Why would you even care? Why would you succumb to elemetary playground level peer pressure over getting a few larger damage numbers in a game? -
Thoughts on making a Super Strength Scrappers
jubakumbi replied to Ironscarlet's topic in General Discussion
Yup. IMO, there seems to be some pervasive idea that 'the entire population' will all run to make the 'most powerful combo available' and all others will go un-used. I have yet to see this happen in this game, since the largest portion of the population cares more about fun than min/max. IME, the people focused on 'beating the game ASAP' who follow the current meta like it's a religion, don't really stick around very long after doing so. Why does this 'flocking to the meta' fear exist, I wonder? -

Power up a personal server and tweak the SS numbers and powers on a Scrapper until it looks good, then share the data. Everyone is terrified of the Scrapper crits with SS, IRRC, so just tweak the numbers. No need to wait for someone else to do it... -
Aug 26, a classic mmorpg releases. How will
jubakumbi replied to wjrasmussen's topic in General Discussion
Meanwhile, I look at people watching these streams and think 'why?'... I don't watch sports either. Watching someone else have fun is just not my idea of fun... For some truly competiive things, I get reviewing strategies, etc., but the entire 'ecosystem' around watching other people play video games baffles me ... Lots of people have lots of reasons they love it, I am glad it brings them joy, it is just really odd to me. -
Server population seems awesome to me. Perhaps a server could be designated as the Red server, like PvP and RP? This has not changed from Retail - a small portion of the playerbase actually likes being villians.

What you describe is emotional maturity - wisdom - whatever word you want to use. The future is uncertain. Dealing with that incertainty is not restricted by Age. Your words imply that Age is the factor needed here, rather than experience, knowledge, and wisdom. Most of the cultures we have do this very thing all the time everyday, it is 'the way of things'. I realize exactly what I am typing here - I am not attacking you, at all, I am pointing out that while your viewpoint is valid, to attribute ability based on Age, rather than Experience and Wisdom, which are not resticted by Age. Dealing with the uncertainty of the indicators and what they convey takes emotional maturity, wisdom, and experience, but Age is a small factor in these things. Implying a greater understanding of the universe just from time-on-planet is not something I agree with, even if I agree with your other points. The moment I read 'well I am probably older than the rest of you so...' it starts to invalidate everything that comes after that statement.
-
Please don't pull the Age card like this, IMO, even though I doubt you mean anything truly bad by using it, it is not needed. Emotional maturity has little to do with age. Emotional maturity is needed to deal with the uncertainty of life. Some players realize that the game, like everything in life, is a fleeting ephemeral experience to be enjoyed while it exists. Some players allow thier lives to revolve around it. Others literally build thier lives around it, with little regard for the consequences of when computers no longer work. The snowflakes are endless. No one can predict the future and IMO grousing about what will or will not happen, idle speculation based on patterns with sufficient data, might be a nice time waster, but is not going to provide any tangible solutions. This is a niche game. The people that really like it will never un-install it and will fight to make sure it remains online. That's all we can do.

So glad I don't play with people like that - ugh - and people wonder why I don't team much past DFB... Pick a few players, jump in the mission...anything else for me is silly, TBH.

I never notice these things, like, ever... Do you guys look at peoples builds or something? I never think twice about what my teammates have for powers...

Remembered one of the things I hate about CoH... its RNG.
jubakumbi replied to Jeuraud's topic in General Discussion
IMO, the assuption is more along the lines of 'If this code does not do what I expect, then it must be broken'. I personally deal with this on a daily basis from people that do not understand technology...it is a very, very common outlook. In fact, as I type this, I am listening to my wife on the phone dealing with a client that is determined the code is broken, when they made a mistake. Even though I have dealt with this for so many years, it still gets me everytime. When the poeple pushing the idea there must be something broken start telling us that we are all part of some kind of conspiracy to hide it, either through big money, lazy, or out of some level of spite/hate to make consumers upset, then it gets really interesting. -

Wise words. It ia fascinating and hilarious to watch in the gaming world. It'a almost as if humans love to make groups based on what they all hate...
