  1. The 'reality' is that we have no idea what is actually being discussed, who is running the actual discussion, what it entails in the business considerations, who will own the code, will other servers be allowed to run, nothing. All we have are, yet again, are a few 'well meaning' players that think they can successfuly negotiate with a company that has typically been pretty hard to deal with in these instances, telling us 'we are talking'. We have nothing more than we did years ago, just some reassurances from a few people that were able to get some servers online, which in the eyes of the 'community' makes them gods, but all it really shows is that they can stand up a few servers...it does not show they have the negotiating skills, finances, or business experience to pull of something very skilled people tried to do multiple times and failed. Yes, this team got the servers online. No, it does not mean they know how to really take this to the finish line. Am I hopeful? Sure, but I am also a realist. I stated earlier, there is nothing good about revealing these talks, in my personal and professional opinion, until it's a 'done deal'. I have wished the HC team luck on this a couple times. I don't want to see it fail, but I do not have any data right now that in any way assures me the HC team actually has the needed skills to accomplish this. They just have a lot of hope and promises from my PoV.
  2. You realize you are basically describing strong arming a company based on the fact thier code was stolen and is in the wild, right? It's very close to blackmail, actually. None of the events leading up to this point, other than they show interest in the game, are in anyway a positive for NCSoft in the marketplace - their stuff got stolen and the current users of that code are now using it as a lever to get more from the company - a company that worries about how it looks ... Yeah, I don't see this as being in a better place now.
  3. Just to have the wider variety when I want it, and I figure that is where the more 'dedicated' might hang out...
  4. Yeah. I have the same handle, but I was just as much a recluse then. 🙂 I meet a few people heere and there but then lose track. The biggest thing for me is the freedom for all these kinds of players to enjoy, and to be able to play one way and then another, from one mission to the next, at will. Mostly, when I sit down to play, I want to kill pixels. Not chat in the chat box, not discuss builds or the weather, not listen to some plan about 'herd to here', I just jump in and start killing pixels. Many people play the game as a social outlet, I simply don't use it that way. Had a buddy with multiple 50s who could never play the game really at all - he just made characters and teamed with us while he typed away about life - he would get team invites when we were not around and just had no clue. 🙂 I figure once I go to Pocket D and start doing iTtrials I will get a few more on the list.
  5. Whereas my quiet time soloing/duoing with a (RL) friend and not having to wait for other people, deal with useless drama, and be subjected to players telling other players how to play is the games most valuable reward for me. Teaming in most all games ruins the game for me, unless I actually know the people in RL and I like to play games with them. So few gamers I meet, even in CoH now, are actually playing just to relax and have playtime, there is almost always a carrot, a goal, a rush to finish, and I don't dance to the tune of other people or a games incentives, I play at my own pace, even when it means skipping out on whole 'events' in the game, I do what I want to do, the herd is not I can afford any of the high end builds I design, as I have plenty of resources as well to make my characters, with very little teaming. Specifically in CoH, I can cater the difficulty of the game endlessly, based on what I chose to play and the game settings, without having to interact with another human, or having to wait for them to finish the RL task they decided to start in the middle of my playtime... One man's treasure...
  6. The bigest issue with updating the client to 64bit is security. The foudation that runs this game is trvial to hack in terms of encryption, etc. Any 32bit system is far more vulnerable to attack vectors. Without 64bit support, there is no good chance of a secure password store, for example. If I were NCSoft, for example, I would not enter contractual agreements for anything that cannot provide good consumer security, so I imagine this might also be a reason for addressing this at this time, just speculating. Most platforms these days are also 64bit native and running the 32bit code requires an extra layer of code, so the 64bit versions _should_ run a bit better on lots of HW, making the experience for enveryone better..
  7. I know. Look at my post history. The only beef I have with humans are those that want to suppress other humans, based on some made up BS to make themselves 'feel' better. I have dealt with tis dark underbelly of our 'community' since its inception. Some people minds are simply so closed, they 'feel' and 'believe' they must protect the rest of us from ourselves. My parents are long dead, do not need new ones, thanks. It was obvious to me as HC started, there are elements of these personalities 'at the top'. I was very happy to see the way they handled the AE resources, not so happy with the way they have announced this initiative. As the GM has stated, they are trying to remain neutral as long as the conversations stay within their boundaries. To me, that just means we have to put up with mean players, which is really nothing new.
  8. And I will not back down from the PoV that those that think they are 'tacky' are a big part of the problem - they are basically saying other people are 'not creative enough' for them, which is some serious ableism and elitist behaviour. There is no call for taking another person to task over their joy in playing a game because you think their character is 'tacky'. That's just a human choosing to be mean to another human. Talking about it in the first place makes those same people turn away from the game, because who wants to play a game with mean people.
  9. I have no issue protecting my interests - fighting FUD. The GM has spoken! There is no rule. If, in the future, there needs to be a rule, one will get made. So why are the creatives _still_ trying to shame people because they like to cosplay, based on some supposition that IF a rule is made, there will be enough 'rule breakers' to shut down the game, when, if fact, there is no real evidence of any of that occurring, only vague fears based on supposition and hearsay? You guys sound like an elementary playground arguing over what type of ice cream you might get if the field trip next year stops for ice cream. What is the intent by the people that just _have_ to let everyone all know how 'bad' coplayers are? And, for the high and mighty posters that just love to throw it out, I advocate for creative freedom and have never, not once, built a trademark, simply because it's not my thing. The conspiracy theory on that one is easy to shoot down. People are not slaves to corporate copyrights and trademarks, no matter how much some people fear the Evil Corporations. People do not have to play in fear just because a few busy-bodies want to be the costume police to 'save us all'. So really, how many posts about the actual rules on HS have to be posted by the GM before the wannabe costume police and elitist creatives will back off on this? Really, how many will it take? I am willing to donate dollars to the GM that makes them so we can get it out of the way so we can stop this FUD from armchair GMs.
  10. I don't 'believe' anything. I wait for facts to arrive. When they do, we can then address them. Anything else is conjecture and speculation. In this case, a subset of the creatives here try and shame others over this and I find that to be disgusting. Beyond that, the fact is, until the HC team says otherwise, it is a non-issue. How in any of that, or anything else I had typed, did you manage to come up with me believing, well, anything? If a deal is struck, there will be details. Duh.
  11. Great. Not only has this announcement brought out the fear and angst, but now we get to be subjected to the creative elitists and worry-warts about how to spend our super happy fun time 'properly'... Where does this hate for people that like to spend thier time as a known character (cosplay) come from? The HC team has specifically stated they do not care. Why then are the rabble rousers trying yet again to make people feel bad for the way they choose to have fun? What is with this whole 'I am more creative than though' BS? I'll follow the rules the HC team has laid out for us - the airchair GMs can go jump. Just a bunch of FUD pushers.
  12. Catgirl/Catboy Control Set: Confuse Libido Attract - Placate Force Small Gift - player gets a gift instead of an attack Dance For Me - AoE confuse/hold Force Large Gift - player gets rewards for defeating the mob Fangirl/boy - mob becomes controllable pet
  13. Players complaining about the company running the game making a profit. PS: And the developers trying to make moral judgements against players based on how they choose to play the game, because the system they built could not handle the load.
  14. Oh, the other thread was spot on my attitude, I tell it like I see it. My point with my additional information is simply that challenge is still player based, even if the game in fact is not challenging. At this point, I am out anyway. 🖖
  15. Fair enough. In this case, I did not see a hint. TBH, I thought we were discussing it rather well, then boom. 🖖
  16. I am NOT innocent of using provactive language, nor am I innocent of wanting poeple to think about these things. I am in fact an insensitive prick quite often, both on purpose and by accident. Why? It gets people to think. I do not, however, actually enjoy upsetting people. I remember the poster's name well from the Retail forums and posts here, which also influenced my words. 🙂 I am just the kind of person that likes to challenge why people think what they think, myself included, first and foremost. No, I don't go to parties, my friends know better than to invite me unless I am maning the grill. The whole 'brand loyalty' / 'brand warfare' thing to me, even though I engage in it as a consumer, is in fact kind of silly at the same time as it is effective. When I learn about someone carrying this level of vitriol for an entire organization, based on the actions of just a couple of it's employees over a non-life threating, non-service impacting issue, I find it fascinating, and I want to understand the brain chemstry behind that level of focused rage and anger. I mean, they make 'lists'... The mere fact I want to discuss these things upsets some people, I have had my curiosity called a 'ballistic missle'. I know better, I was just sitting here with my coffee and enjoying the nice morning, typing what I was thinking. How terrible of me. 😉
  17. The OP has definately looked down thier nose at players enjoy what the OP considers to be a challengeless game. People outgrow games all the time, sometimes before they play the game, which is why I sugessted the stock markets to the OP if they wanted a challenge, I was not joking. The reason I love this game? The simple fact I don't have to feel like it's a challenge to want to play. I don't feel like I am grinding, I don't feel like I am working, I don't feel like I am following someone elses carrot, all of which I find challenging. Falling down when I agro too many mobs or the RNG say "Not today"? Wiping out hordes of bad guys in the blink of an eye? That's just playing the game, IMO. I play this game to relax and explore pulling the the characters in my head out into 3d worlds and fiddling with them. To me it really is a video game, in the original arcade sense, just insert coin to continue, kill all the pixels.
  18. As I stated, I have avoided giving them any cash. I was trying to discuss the idea of people villifying a corporation over the actions of just a few of the employees, not judging you, this happens all the time. I don't entirely agree with your viewpoint and I was exploring the ideas. Now that I have worked in big corporations and I have seen consumers do this more often, it's something I like to explore, I love "Why?'. If the exploration of those ideas has upset you, I apologize, that was not the intent. Be Well.
  19. Bingo. Challenge is the challenge to define here. 🙂 The whole point is that you can set things on -1/x1 or +4/x8. You can run solo or grouped. You can play TFs or streetsweep. It is up the Player to find the challenge within the game, it is all based around the Player being challenged. Therefore, the Game cannot be expected to be challenging if the Player is not ready to define thier own view of what is challenging and then seeking that out in-game. It takes the players imput, not just passive play, and the OP and many like the OP try to blame the game for which the blame lies elsewhere.
  20. "You can't just zerg" does not immediately imply a challange. The OP is asking for real challenge. What you describe just means moving more slowly and fighting more 1v1 fights, using some basic tactics that any gamer can master in a couple minutes. Not really a challenge.
  21. A large group made a specific plea for a corporate descion to be over turned, one based around personal data security, a hot topic. Big difference from having a couple people in the company treat you badly because thier bloodsugar was low, they were having a bad day, or were just idiots and then never allowing the members of the other sub-sections to show you thier work effort. Not the same thing at all.
  22. But what you describe is just a punitive punishment for missteps, or just relying on luck to get you through. How is this 'challenging' for anything other than personal patience?
  23. The challenge there is in the brain power used before entering the ring, to insure you have the tools to win, like a collectable card game. The formulas are all already know, all strategies are already worked out... Dancing around and hitting the keys in the right order after you have built the deck...that's what we do...that's all we do, other than herd the cats. IME, the people that pine away for challenges in this channel (gaming) are still trying to get life-meaning out of the games. They want feedback from the game to let them feel like they have grown from overcoming some sort of life-challenge. It's a video game. Once you know the formulas, which are pubished and followed to create the meta, it's just learning the dance - time comsuming repetitve taks to learn muscle memerory is just not a challenge to me, it is a time investment. To make real challenges in this game, you as a player have to participate in the creation of those challenges. Posters like the OP IME seem to be looking for a higher power to give them direction rather than realizing "it's all inside".
  24. Terribly simplistic and over simplified. Positron was the boss for one tiny office in the larger corporation. 'The captain' cannot always control the minute actions of the worker bees. Again, this is villifying hundreds of people over the actions of just a couple in the group. Having worked with large corporations for a long time now, I have a different lens, especially ones like NCSoft that are made up of other, smaller companies that were acquired. The whole idea of villifying the whole group over the actions of a few members, is just not cool to me, that's all.
  25. I get you are upset by this, I would be as well. However, it is a lot like denying someone help because one of thier ancestors wronged you, IMO... You are vilifying an entire corporation based on the actions of a couplr of low level flunkies. I have not given NCSoft any money after how they handled the closure of the studio, as that IMO is a real 'corporate' move. Even so, this many years later, I wonder how many, if any, of the people that made those choices are still there. I have no love for NCSoft, but I have learned over the years the reality is that there are bad people in companies more often than there are bad companies...
