  1. The very thing that makes this game different goes against the current mass-gaming market - personal creativity. Even if you can make a custom character, it is typically no more than cosmetic in most games. These days in the mass market, people pick characters to play, they don't make them. Look at all the Spines/Fire Brutes. That's new players looking at the forum, listening to Broadcast, and finding the most detailed premade they can that makes a profit. New players want builds, they don't want to find them. In a game this old, all of the meta builds are well known, so they can be found, bit to modern gamers, that feels like work. So, while I think a number of new players will show up, it will be very interesting to see how many stick around to actually play. For example, saw someone in chat have a meltdown after hitting 50 that they had to do all this 'complicated work' to gain Incarnate powers. While I would love for a new Supers MMO to make a great game, exactly what makes it great will be the key for me...
  2. IMO, just another indication the boards for a game are not, in fact, the 'end all be all' for accurately modelling the games player base. If you look closely, the main combos are what worked 'best' at the end of Retail Live, most especially the ones 'advertised' by the forum build posting power-levelers. It will be interesting to see some statistics on what combos get the most actual playtime per account. Based on these charts, like 5 out of 10 people are running around as Spines/Fire, yet I have only seen like two while playing the game... The number of character types only scratches the surface, these statistics will be really interesting over time!
  3. Thanks, you sum up my PoV in three sentences. And thank you, the flavor you add to these outlooks is mine as well. IMO, the villain side of the game is flawed at the core because it was made by people who like to play heroes that created what they thought villains would want to do. Add to that this idea that villains would create nothing more than an 'industrial prison island system' to live and it fails miserably...villians love posh. Ever been to Monte Carlo? Where did that money come from, hm? 😉 IMO, the 'red-side' was created trying to make all villains look like Benny Hill / Keystone Cops 'bad guys' as well, placing yet another constraint, forcing them into being comic relief as well... Good execution, but a flawed plan.
  4. Wow, what a bunch of judgemental players.
  5. I totally agree that we have to trust whatever you give us. I am completely convinced I have all I am going to get. I have accepted the answers given that I have seen, I have tried to be very specific. No nefarious intent, no reason other than my unbridled curiosity. I understand the fear behind not wanting to give out too much data for all kinds of reasons, I have been responsible for protecting employee and consumer data.. As the poster mentioned, if someone really, really wanted to, they could find you - me, anyone with the real desire to do so, it's just time and energy. Then I simply started responding to the people talking to me, trying to reflect back at them whatever tone they threw my way. Apparently, I ruffle feathers in how I communicate, this is nothing really new for me, neither is people getting 'fed up' with my 'ballistic' curiosity. When people get mad from my persistence, they start making me the bad guy, nothing new for me, and here we are. So yeah, I can be the bad guy, no problem. I totally agree there is nothing beneficial being accomplished in the thread.
  6. For example: "Collectively, the team of people, including the lawyer, have closed multiple deals between business entities, some in the software channel, so we are confident we have the right resources." I work in an industry that has to obfuscate clients and companies all the time, yet provide this type of information. It is completely and totally possible to do correctly and securely. If anyone wants to just write all that off, OK, but since I know these things are done daily, I know it can be done. *shrug* There are a ton of ways we could get some 'comforting words' just like the emotion based gamers. Yet, everyone lines up to shoot down the idea, without actually thinking about ways it could work out well... You know, like humans do with anything that scares them.... Can you imagine the outcry here if I did what you suggest? I already considered it. But, I thought I would ask the company that stated they wanted to be transparent to in fact be transparent, rather than using my skills to track them down..I agree, at this point if I wanted to put on my grey hat, I could find all of them. All I wanted was a little PR that was more than just emotion based placating, without substance. It is obvious that will not happen, and that, apparently in the eyes of the community, with the exception of a few PMs, I am a 'bad guy' even for asking such 'real' questions and having such a persistant personality to go with my curiosity, it must be trolling or some other nefarious purpose, just having curiosity cannot possibly be it, right? And much of this static from people who, themsleves, obviously understand that all our brains work differetly, attacked by people with their own demons. Look, this team had done a great thing and continues to do that thing. The only reason I am still posting on the topic is the simple fact that the 'community' has decided I am the bad guy for being having persistant curiosity and wants me to feel bad for asking persistantly and having the balls to clap back. But, really, if I get to be the 'villian' in the community over my 'ballistic missle' curiosity, that works fine for me. 🙂 I already gave my personal information to the GMs, by the way...so they know who I am even if I do not yet know who they are...
  7. Just open the laucher as usual, wait for it to finish, then click the 64-bit button....on Windows...more complicated on a Mac...
  8. If adjusted for taste, the cell shading adds a huge improvement IMO to the game. I have the settings set really low. Experiment!' It does hit the FPS, but I IMO the 64-bit client helped a lot.
  9. Totally agree. The new client makes the game simply 'better'...better sound, smoother play, I think some of the texture processing is much better, at least with cell-shading turned on, things like the body tattoos look awesome. An excellent advancement!
  10. This gets as close as I have seen to an answer. We have to trust the HC team (or not) regardless of infomation, that point has long been the case, you guys have the ball. (Why is this basic fact repeated so often as if it's some bit news by people that just don't want to think about it?) It's a unique situation, no doubt. IME, even in these unique business situations, and yes I have dealt within the quasi-legal realm on plenty of occasions, previous experience matters. Here, at least, you allude to the idea that there are experienced industry veterans involved, which helps. You allude to the fact in a few places the team is leaning heavily on a lawyer, also not a bad move. But, I really have to be honest here, at this point, it still sounds as if you do not, in fact, understand what I am asking if you are talking about CV's when I specifically stated PII was not needed. That basic lack of understanding a question I have posed so many ways, in and of itself really tells me all I need to know. Good Luck. 🖖
  11. How am I the smartest one in the room when, after so many posts, I still cannot seem to convey my point/question? That puts me on the bottom of the list, not the top, I would think...epsecially since I have been told so many times I am the one doing the wrong thing... If I was the smart one, I would have asked the question and gotten the answer immediately, right? And, yet again, when I clap back I am the bad guy! As the old saying goes, This Thread Delivers!
  12. FUD. How is 'this person has closed many/no deals over the years at multiple companies' in anyway a grey area? I could talk all day about someones experience and never let out PII. Again, this assumes the intent is uncover PII data, which is not my intent. I agree the information being made availble is unlikely, simply because no one seems to understand what I am even talking about... 🙂
  13. To someone looking for a nefarious intent, sure, I can see that. It makes the assuption I am 'up to something' from the get-go... Perhaps I am the nemesis plot! Yeah, that's the ticket!
  14. This is hilarious. I am not stressed out about this topic, I would simply like some data. That, in turn, has led to no end of emoitonal dsitress on the part of a number fo people, it seems. I don't harbor hate or ill-will on this. I am fascinated by the whole thing. I have simply been very persistant in an attempt to get data. Persistance has nothing to do with emotion, curiosity is a state of being. How does that equate to an emotional state? Yet, just for asking, I get RWAR! I get told to calm down. I told to agrre to disagree. I get told that I don't need to know... Really, this has been the most awesome forum thread I have been a part of in years, maybe ever. All over - "Hey, could we get some background data on the people brokering the business deal we all want to succeed?" ... too funny. PS: And like with the above, when I in any way slap back, directly or with snark, I am, yet again, the bad guy! HAHAHAHAHAHA!
  15. Thankfully so. It has not stopped you from making me the bad guy though. 🙂 If it brings you dopamine, by all menas, carry on!
  16. Again, I specifically did not ask for specifics. "This person hasd worked at three companies and brokered manyfew/lots of deals, for various business entities." We don't even know if the people involved have ever even had jobs, or are independently wealthy from great investments. No where, BTW, not once, have I stated that I or anyone is owed anything. I have asked questions. Probing, real life questions about tthe real world skills that the HC team may or may not have, and been attacked frm the start for having the audacity to aks them. But @PaxArcana, by all means, please, please continue to villify me for having the audacity to ask public questions of a company that claims to want transparency during a volitile issue, so everyone can hear the answers, because you don't like my process of data gathering...it's really filling up an otherwise boring week...all this angst over a basic business inquiry, and people wonder why someone might not have much confidence in thier business prowess. I totaly agree they need a PR position to be filled by someone qualified. At this point, the whole thing has become hilarious to me, I have been sharing the story widely with my peers. "Hey, can you guys give us a hint that you know how to close business deals?" "Go screw yourself, you are not entitled to know that!" Yeah. 🖖
  17. Wow, I thought we were not discussing this, Thanks for dismissing me, again. 🙂 Why you have all this hostility for me over simply wanting to know more relevent data is absurd at this point, IMO. I am married, happily for 25 years, in case you are being mean to me to get me to 'notice' you, just FYI. The fact you and others are fine with not knowing this data is irrelevent. The fact that so many people prefer 'faith' over facts, is irrelevent. Like others, I ask for data. The data I ask for is, in fact, typical business information, used daily in business transactions and given freely by any group that values transparency, IME. So, while you may be very confortable to 'just trust' a group of people you don't know, who skillsets are unknown, with the fate of a game that so many people love, some of us might, in fact, want to understand what skills they have, so we can possibly provide support to them during the negotiations! Is it really so hard to understand, perhaps the whole reason I am asking the question, is so that perhaps, with the pool of people and resources I might have at hand, I could provide some help to the team during the negotiations, in some way, because I do this for a living? The HC group has been happy to provide comfort and words to the emotional gamers. Is it really so hard to understand some of us simply prefer data over 'trust us' and they we also would like to hear the words that comfort us? But, you know, go right ahead and yell at me for asking questions, it is what you do, right?
  18. Close. All I have been asking for this whole time is something, anything, that indicates this round has something, anything, going for it that was not there before. It seems, the existences on the servers is 'it' in most peoples eyes. If so, just say that. If in fact, the only single difference in the situation is the fact the code is out and there are server running, just say, that's our only leverage. I would love to hear, even in the most vague of terms, about any biz deal the HC team on this have previously negotiated. That's all. Something. Anything. Just some tiny indication the people involved know how to successfully negotitate a business deal between entities. Nothing more. Just a 'This person has been a business leader for three companies and had close some/lots/many deals between companies/corporations." Some indication that the individuals with whom a ton of good will and hope has been trusted, that they do, in fact, have the skills required to properly handle the task. It's the most basic question asked when conducting a business deal besides 'can both sides afford it'. IME, when no one can or will answer this basic question, the deal is not going to work out... I am not interested in the posts trying to tell me and others to 'calm down' or 'be positive'. It has nothing to to with that. This is a fundamental biz question that any typical group of biz people IME can readily answer and does so eagerly to showcase thier skills...
  19. You are responding to my comments. I totally understand your PoV, I simply have a different one, as stated. TBH, you have given us no more information with this, only the emotional reasons for announcing at this stage. Honesty, I don't get, at all, why some of the people involved do not understand my PoV. All the community has heard for years and years is 'we are in talks, it feels good', that's all we have been given now, nothing more, just the vague feelings about the deal. Like it or not, the optics also have parts of the HC overall group involved in the 'long lie' and that does not instill confidence in words. The information we do have tells us good business people have tried the previously and failed, all we have TMK are some anon chat handles and no resumes. IMO, this 'announcement' just strings along the community, it makes that sword just seem a whole lot larger and more imposing. In fact, it does exacty what happened in Retail live, just a bone thrown out to the community out of a fear of losing interest, like a hand grenade. Does anyone understand where I am coming from? All we have gotten is flowery words in the past, that's all we have now, yet we are somehow supposed to think 'this time is different' with absolutely no data... I run on data, not hope and dreams and promises and there is no data. *shrug* I could care less when, what the exact terms are, etc. What HC has not provided is any reason this round of talks is, in any way, different from previous rounds, that makes this one 'better'. Plan, people, nothing...just 'trust us' because we can prop up some servers... I know you all want me to just shut up, so I will. Good Luck.
  20. At this point I can honestly say ... you lost me. Seemed like we were having a fine discussion. 🖖
  21. SIgh. We do not disagree. it's impossible to even get to the real reasons for any of this when all you want to do is tell me to stop talking. 🙂
  22. It's not a matter of being moved. I am agreeing with you - there is no data - there is no proof. 'Faith' is where we diverge, I have none in anything, 'faith' is blind hope IMO. You, and others, are being led to think that this group is capable of doing something other groups have failed multuple times to do, with no evidence they can succeed. There is no evidence to agree or disagree over, there is only the vague Hope that HC has lit a candle for with this thread. I am simply trying to point out the fact that this 'faith' has been placed in a group of people that have provided the servers, but very little data on how they plan to pull off what others have not. I want to see some facts and evidence, not just vague promises from online chat handles. Who is the Board of Directors? When do they meet? When can we pose questions? What are the terms they are trying to contract? How long will the contracts be in place? Is it exclusive? Will the end users have to agree to a contract/EULA with any company other than HC? I can keep going. If you or anyone wants to place thier faith in such thin data, that's fine, people do that all the time. This deal would not be one I would go to my boss with anything more than a 10% based on the data at hand. IMO, for anything resembling a reasonable use of the word transparent, HC has not net the definition by a long shot on this. IMO, they are winding up a whole group of people with Hope and no facts. TBH, that is what I dislike the most about the situation - HC made this tiny crumb of an announcement, and gave us nothing of real value, just making us all dance on the head of a pin over the tidal wave of angst and supposition...over a vague hope they might know how to take it to the finish line. I simply don't find it to be at all professional or good business relations, and yet there are people lining up to give them money...the world is a strange and wonderful place.
  23. Not about belief or hope, or a positive or negative outlook, from my PoV. I have no data to show the HC team can or cannot do this, except how they have handled the issues that have been public. That's the point. There is no transparency, no data, nothing either way ... just Hope. So we have no data on if they are qualified to make these kinds of deals or not. You seem to want to turn my realism into a negative outlook when that is not the case. From my PoV, it's all just faith and hope, there is no data. That is a statement of the facts at hand, not a positive or negative outlook. Without data, all we can do is rely on past experience in similar situations as we speculate. Business deals can and do go badly for all kinds of reasons, this initiative has been attempted previously, and we have no indication that the current team has any more skill than the previous teams ... the data at hand is slim. I am not attching emotions to these facts.
  24. You outline right here how they are not being transparent. It is not a matter of outlook, at all, it is about the facts presented. It is not a matter of opinion, or optimism, it's about the facts. The HC team has shared precious few facts. Why? Typically because that is how business works - don't talk about the deal until it is done. So why bait the community like this? My opinion has nothing to do with the outcome. The outcome relies entirely on the business accumen of the HC team, and we have nothing, absolutely nothing, that shows us the team has what it takes to succesfully negotiate. Again, I would love to find out one of the names in the ring is someone that has the right skills, when so many have failed in the past. Perhaps a couple succesful deals they have made previously? HC has not given us anything other than hope and some monthy revenue info in this area. I am simply watching as the events unfold, without false hope, with the knowledge that business deals go sideways for all kinds of reasons and that is is always a bad idea to mention them before the ink is dry, on a deal many others have failed to seal. None of that means I do not want a good outcome, but I have the distict impression what I consider good and what HC considers good wiil not be the same. 🙂
  25. But what the HC team shared is NOT transparency, they just shared Hope. No details, nothing. NOT transparency, it was just 'feeding the beast' because they were worried about being 'too quiet'. Again, a well meaning group that simply has not demonstrated the business experience and actions to take this to the finish line. HC has been transparent on some costs, but that's about it. I am just being real, they have not demostrated, through actions or resumes, anytihng more than players with hope that can run servers.
