issue 26 Patch Notes for May 30th, 2019
jubakumbi replied to Leandro's topic in Patch Notes Discussion
So a group of (arguably inexeprienced at running MMOs) people trying to take a server configuration/codebase that was modded to be a bit more comfortable with a smaller population and tweak it to work a little better with a larger population, in an effor to make the game a better experience, is then, in your opinion, just a cover for 'nerfs' to people being able to 'farm' effectively. Did I get that right? That sound like some grade A tinfoil stuff right there. What evil purpose do these rogue server runners have that justifies this outlook? I mean right now, you just sound like someone ranting on a street corner about the end of the world, TBH. Additionally, if the server runners, for whatever reason, are not fond of what you call 'farming' and chose, on the servers they run, to restrict it, how does that impact anything? So some of the characters in the virtual world no longer earn rewards at the same rate. So? How does that mean I should be worried or concerned? I am still going to be able to play the game and have fun. You really sound like a grognard that just wants to rain on the fun we are having, IMO. -

Can we have a real moment? Is Homecoming SCORE 2.0?

And yet the same community would have no issues going to a steakhouse without being more involved in the cattle-raising-and-slaughter cycle... :P Yup. Just because _some_ organizations/people are big on constant posts on the Internet about every detail, does not mean everyone is, nor should they be required to do so. Just because an individual or group would like more information, does not mean they are entitled to force that information, yet the Internet runs on peer pressure... I applaud the effort to make sure ones time and resources are allocated in a way that makes sense with ones view of the world. That does not equate to being able to demand everyone give you the whole production lines social resumes. Over a ressurected video game, no less. -
Awesome sauce, looking forward to playtime now!

Federated Servers + Centralized Character Database Participation?

But these kinds of questions, 'pushing a server runner against the wall' to make a decision 'right now' that will 'dictate' where the player chooses to play, IMO, do nothing but stir up angst. They are impossible to answer accurately about vaporware. Yet the mind of the gamer moves at the speed of a phone app. As you note, 'they could just' is the battlecry of the uninformed. Placing these kinds of pie-in-the-sky, vaporware, hope-based questions on Internet forums full of non-technical people, IMO, only stirs up FUD, because anyone not 'promising to be in the cliche' is now the 'bad guy'. To ask the question, 'will HC consider this at some point' is fine, IMO. Fear mongering that characters will get lost (all MMO characters get lost) if someone plays on the 'wrong' server is just spreading FUD. The digital bits that make a character can be created on personal server at will. There is no 'central trusted authority' to sign anything like this. It would be trivial to hack. And, it is currently vaporware. IMO, hanging your hat on this 'hopeful idea' as the reason for choosing a server is .. naive. Just my pennies. -

Yes, it is. You are jusy trying to stir up drama where there is none, IMO. You are asking volunteer players that just want to play the game in peace to act like MeToo CEOs and tell you how virtuous they are before you spend your time playing with thier toys. IMO, it's pointless drama. -

Don't assume then. :) No character in any MMO on the planet has the level of 'permenance' you are describing, it is vaporware, and to assume that 'all' players and developers want the same things is ... not reality. There is no software development team on the planet that can create 'something in the works to make everybody happy.' What you propagated was mis-information that is yet another 'dig' at the HC team for not loudly saying they are 'in the cliche' with the rest of the CoX server runners, that are generally trying to _compete_ for players right now, with HC and some of whom are outright spreading FUD. So yeah, right now, with the temperature of the situation where it is, these constant 'dings' toward HC to make snap decisions to assuade frighted players that are only frightned because people spread FUD is really, really getting old fast. -

The world is full of humans that love to be dramatical. This game has ALWAYS had a large portion of players that 'worry' over how others play the game and by extention, how they live thier lives. It has always had a ton of busy bodies and hall monitors. Now, many if not most of the most cranky and controlling players were not allowed on the secret server and now they have are determined to rain firey vengence upon those that did - even if those same people are the ones now providing game servers and support. Small minds that live in small, vengful and restictied realities have decide that HC did not/does not do everything to the 'moral' standard they have laid out, so HC must be the enemy...while they play on the servers HC provides... Just like any other MMO... -

And I think bringing these things uo the way you did, leaning HARD on the 'fear' about 'character safety', does nothing but stir up ore angst and create more misinformation, all the while under the guise of 'trying to to help'. In the us-vs-them ANY sort of question like this, about VAPORWARE no less, does nnothing but sow angst. Frankly, I think your purpose is to sow FUD. -
I am all about the joking. I think it is _hilarious_, the level of indignation and moral high roads some of the 'community' are saying they are taking ... while running 'non-commercial' servers. Watching the reactions to the inevitable changes that will occur with rogue servers in proliferation, I think I will have plenty to joke about for a while.

And I'll third it. Motion carried, grow up people! Hey I got thirds! But in the spirit of the thread, I'll share. :) Only I should be able to be third. Devs please nerf other people who claimed third before I did. It’s not fair that they get to it so fast. They should take it slower and really enjoy reading past first and second before rushing to claiming third. In all honesty though, I fully agree with OP. Oh No. We are thirds already! Firsts and seconds need to be nerfed, thirds need to be buffed! IMO, this community is simply now going through what many have before, just with a really long lag and an odd path. Not the first game to land in this area and now this community has to deal with it ... some deal well and others not so much. The next year will be a roller-coaster!

Federated Servers + Centralized Character Database Participation?
jubakumbi replied to Marstead's topic in General Discussion
What I don't understand is why people think the people spending (all of) their free time keeping the game running, playing it, and setting aside some time to passion-project improve it, need to keep answering a string of questions about every single little detail that arm-chair developers can make up to add to the game. The entire _idea_ of some sacrosant character authority where all CoX characters can live on in eternity ia awesome. So is solving a ton of things. How about we let the servers get stable, the various server runners do thier thing as they like and let them be, rather than trying to pin them down on things companies with hundreds of employees and budgets won't directly commit to, hm? Just sayin'. PS: Someone has now posted in that reddit thread questioning if the HC server are 'OK' to play on...misinformation just breeds... -
"Toxic" Community?.. My thoughts, feel free to add your own!
jubakumbi replied to PseudoCool's topic in General Discussion
Also, this is not the playerbase at the end of Live, aka, 'You can never go home.' There have always been people that are loud about tellings others in CoH how to Play and how to have Fun, nothing new. These people IME have alwayes been a _loud_ minority. In-game I have experienced nothing but fun, happy people, with the exception a couple incidents of people trying to get support for a rollback to gated cosmetics and a couple worried over the threat of losing the game overall. All of the toxicity I have seen has been on the Internet, out of the game. Several players are trying to add in Social Justice and other RL things to thier choice of server-runners. Perfectly acceptable IMO, free choice and all that. However, rather then just going to the server they prefer, some have decided to continue to tell anyone that will listen how un-ethical the HC version of the game is because 'reasons' and that the rogue server they play on is 'right', tossing around misinformation along the way. Not as acceptable, IMO, and as my wife likes to say, "If you don't want people to laugh at your beliefs, don't have such funny beliefs." There is a reddit post right now where someone is fear-mongering about characters not being 'safe' on any server other than the ones 'in the cliche', yet the functionality is both vaporware and hopes. This is the Internet of today and no matter what the channel, some humans are trapped into being unable prefer something, without first showing thier contempt of something else to prove thier level of conviction to the tribe. HC was the first and is the largest and has ties to the secret stuff, so it will be the villian, thus it is written. I have always enjoyed covorting with villians. -
Ah c'mon! Some people define themselves by what they love to hate! Don't take that away from them! ;)

Thanks HC Team! Tell the all haters to go do it better if they think they can and keep on rockin', because all the tools exist to do it. This narrative by the haters that HC is somehow holding people emotionally hostage is BS, IMO. So go do it better if you think you can...go do it all 'right' if you think you can. Those of you think think this idea is devisive, fine then, go change the code to add the options you desire and submit that to HC. Basically, to anyone whining, Put Up or Shut Up. If you really think you know better, Show Us. So, basically, just like on Live, there are bunch of busy-bodies and hall monitors that think there is only one Right way to Play and have Fun. And? Some game things changed and some gamers are losing their minds over it. And? People are running off the end of the pier on fire, with only half the data. And? Sounds like just another day in CoX or any other MMO to me. Some are going to be angry/sad/mad, because they love to be angry/sad/mad. Others are going to be happy, because they are wired that way. I think most of us are just happy to be playing the game and the minutae of controls to generate income being removed is awesome. Thanks for making it happen. -
You did not create this monster. It lives in the human psyche. Some people seem to just get thier dopamine hits by talking about what they hate and how much they hate it. Watching this one after so many years just shows me that some humans, once they think they have been wronged, will wait an eternity for vengance and live with a deep level of anger for years to fuel it. While I can understand this kind of thing over RL issues, I simply do not comprehend this level of angst and anger over a video game, never did. After watching the spittle fly off of a couple of gamers ranting about changes in games over the years, I tend to just back away slowly.

OSHA has left the building... Who am I kidding? OSHA was never here... -
Wow. Just wow. You seem to equate my passionate confidence in my words in an attempt to get people to consider the facts with being a bully; fascinating. Let's be clear. I am not trying to bully people into reporting other players over things no one running the servers asked. I am not trying to shame players for a perceived lack of creativity. I am not promoting the extremely unlikely event that a C&D appears over characters that use existing IP. How am I the bully or the extremist here? And finally, laughably, I am not asking you, have never asked or implied, that you martyr yourself to come and clean up anything. I don't need anything from you, emotionally or otherwise. Just wow.

PK, I am not putting anyone on ignore. I am a big boy and I will happily hash out _anything_ this board can throw at me. I don't come to message boards on the Internet not expecting to encounter people who don't like my PoV. As I have posted just recently, if you don't understand me, just ask, I will try to explain. If you take the worst view of my PoV and then attack, I will fight back...and still try to explain my viewpoint. I try to use data and logic, but I am human and I have passions and emotions. Everthing that occurs on boards like this is just idle speculative dribble anyway and besides, how else am I supposed to waste time at work?
-
That's why I _asked_ if that's what you meant, because to me it did (and does) sound like you are trying to tell them they need to do it your way. Calling thier way backwards is _not_ an attempt to shame them into changing? What word would prefer besides shame? Correct? In case you did not know, there has been a consistant wailing agaist L and HC team for 'not helping other enough'. I am a proffesional geek. IME, from the data I have at hand, people are asking for things they need to figure out for themselves and I tire, in RL, of non-technical people expecting geeks to do their bidding and bossing them around, saying they are doing is 'backwards' for example. *shrug* Call it a hot button. If you think the Development community can communicate better, then you have the power to join that community as an information manager. I see no lack of direction, I see many directions. I also see people that want to see a 'dedicated plan' they can sail by though, like a retail game. :) Nit picking where other people choose to spend thier time, for free, working on a passion project is rude, IMO. :) These people got the game running for us and I don't feel like being quiet when I see some one tell them what they 'should' be doing.
