It's too bad it didn't stick around... I wanted to use the title for Eddie, but forgot to set it before I logged him off on the 1st. *sniffles* Now it's gone...

March 31 patch and its effects on the marketplace
Coyotedancer replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
I'd cry. I plow all of my farming and marketeering profits back into my characters' builds. Losing the gang would be a huge loss of both time *and* resource investment. Also... I'm one of those nutty roleplayers. I'm kind-of attached to them all as characters. I'd miss them. 😞 -
Any bit of sense that that particular bit of lore ever made flew right out the window the day they introduced Wentworths and the Black Market , BB.

I kind-of think of the little spud in Roger Rabbit terms... He's very Baby Herman. (And as such SO NEEDS the cigar. XD) -

It's too soon to tell if this is going to be "the way of things" but... yeah. From what I've seen so far? There are some definite Barrens Chat vibes going on. o_0

Yeah.... I thought the little dude was funny, but I'd feel bad dragging him all over Dark Astoria. 'Glad we can dismiss him now. -

March 31 patch and its effects on the marketplace
Coyotedancer replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
Yeah... I don't get the doom-and-gloom bit. The exploit itself needed to be closed and while losing the XP-for-INF bonus is a little irksome, it's just not *THAT* huge a deal in the grand scheme of things. If they go ahead with the custom mob damage recalculation though, THAT may cause a bit more of a ripple. It's going to make the farm missions a lot rougher for all but a few very specific builds... And that may be enough to slow some of us down, at least for however long it takes to re-spec or re-equip our farming characters to deal with that situation. (A not-quite-soft-capped/proc-monster/traded-some-security-for-speed farm build like my guy's is apt to really feel that 2x damage from the higher-ranked mobs. I'll have to scrap some of Harry's extra damage to pick up another 3% DEF. Boo! Monoculture builds are boring. XP) -

Believe that if you like, but no... that really wasn't the point. Anyway, since it's unlikely this conversation will turn into anything more productive than your continuing to harp on a point I never argued, I'm not going to reply again. Carry on and enjoy yourself. -
March 31 patch and its effects on the marketplace
Coyotedancer replied to Yomo Kimyata's topic in The Market
Honestly, I'm with Solvera... I doubt it'll actually change much of anything long-term. Enough of us who farm actually do seem to enjoy it enough to just keep doing it, so supply shouldn't take all that much of a hit. -

Actually, no. I didn't. What I SAID was that marketeering was, along with farming, something that drove the perception of "I must do [X] to make progress in this game instead of just playing regular content!" that Jimmy and the others seem to want to curb. They target farming as one thing that causes the 'haves and have-nots' issue. I was just pointing out that marketeering ALSO plays a role. That's all. No "OMGMarketeers are EBIL"... No "You're wrecking things by marketeering"... None of that. Just a reminder that farming isn't the only thing minting top hats and monocles, and that if they want to curb the impression that regular play isn't enough, they'll probably have to look at that source of wealth-accumulation, too. -

Way to completely miss the point.... but hey, you got to lecture someone about economics, so I guess you got some fun out of it. -

Personally, I think the situation we're in actually is a pretty good balance point. You just can't balance progress around what an 8-player wrecking ball can accomplish. They always have and always will blow through things at a ridiculous rate, rather it's Taskforces or iProgress. If it's already tedious and time-consuming for us as-is now, then reducing it enough to slow the smash teams down, say, to the pace of a current 4-player average would leave everyone ELSE moving about as quickly as a snail in cement. I can't agree with that. I suspect a lot of us couldn't.... We're all older than we were in the Live days. A lot of us have more demands eating into our "fun time". That's why massive time-sinks are pretty much out of favor even in modern games. They're simply not practical for players. -

And as a mostly-solo, I completely disagree with THAT. Running on an 8-player smash team? Maybe... But it can still be absolutely TEDIOUS when you're doing it on your own. -

If I had only heard that from newbies like the poster up-thread, that would be one thing... But some of the folks I run with on Everlasting are by no means "new" to the game and still grump about that kind of thing. "I didn't sign up to play City of Wentworths" isn't an uncommon sentiment. -

No. Just... no. Making the iPowers more accessible was a Good Thing. "Scaling it back" just means "Welcome back to some portion of the grind". -

Except a lot of people DO end up feeling like they have to, rather they enjoy that kind of thing or not... (For an example, see the post up-thread that stated basically "New player. Looked at Wents. Decided my first character had best be a farmer.") It sounds like that's one of the problems Jimmy & Company want to address. That's not a bad thing. -

Exactly. Now we're on the same page, so to speak. Farming just isn't the only source of that "OMG. I can't afford to equip Hero X. I *have* to build a farmer.... Or learn to marketer... to get anywhere"-feeling. -

And the "unaddressed issue" is exactly what you mentioned in your own post a few minutes ago, Jimmy... And what Doc actually summed up pretty well in his. If the idea you guys are going for over-all is to make everyone feel like they're on a level economic playing field, then it's going to take addressing more than just the INF-earning potential of farming. You're also going to have to look at the other eight-hundred-pound gorilla in the room. Marketeering. Which is going to be a proverbial can of worms. This probably isn't the thread to do that with anything approaching depth or detail, granted... but it IS an issue if your intention is making players feel like they don't have to do anything but regular play to get goodies at a reasonable rate when they interact with the in-game economy. That was my only real point in bringing it up, and one that you (And others... you weren't alone in that-) kept basically ignoring to repeat the Inflation point, even after I specifically said that WASN'T what I was actually talking about, That was the bit that makes me feel like it was a deliberate deflection. -

Not an attack so much as an observation. You know what I'm saying, and yet your replies are all about a different issue... One that I specifically mentioned, multiple times, that I was NOT addressing. It may not be "nice" to feel like you were ducking the issue, but that doesn't make it any less what appears to be going on. -

It really isn't... And darn right I will. XD Like I said in another thread recently, I actually find tossing Harry (my "farm-bird") into a cave full of angry cosplayers to be a fun thing. I enjoy it enough that I'd likely still do it if we didn't get INF at all. It reminds me a little of the how-many-hundred Underground trials we did back in the Liberty days. Beyond a certain point they weren't about the rewards. They were about "I actively enjoy this". Which is sort-of the point of playing a game.
