Not the oldest by a long shot but I clock-in at 46 this year. . . I remember back on Live, I had a regular crew of players that I hung out with and one day we all started talking about our ages. . . One of our tanks who rarely spoke but was an AMAZING TANK finally chimed in and said, "All you youngins are making me feel old. . ." When we finally browbeat "her" she admitted that first she was a woman and second that she was 72 years young and always loved comics and this was the game that kept her young! We lost her a few years later but I know she played until her final days and I know somewhere she is tanking in the big beyond with an Invul tanker making everyone go "WOW!"

This may be my issues also since I play a lot of Shield characters. I am trying to tweak my second build a bit to see performance with the S&L defense around 45% without Incarnates. -

I actually did a Stutter TF and forgot to turn difficulty down and that first mission ambush she came through it quite well! Had to kite quite a bit but didnt faceplant at all. . . The team did, which I apologized for since I dont have my second build done (which has taunt), but they were all shocked I kept going and going. . . Seriously, I may never forgive you for showing off what this stupid combo can do. . . -

All good and happy for the feedback! As I said, I like to soft cap either my S/L or my melee defenses - yes I know without any DDR it isnt worthwhile but just my playstyle hence the Slash slotting. I actually never use Swipe so I wanted the 10% recharge since Hasten isnt perma (another peeve of my playstyle). But I definitely see your points here. And didnt @Bopper show that procs in auras is the best way to trigger them? Hence the Gaussians in Tactics and MotT but again I see your point especially with the over resist cap. Keep in mind, the build is without any incarnates turned on and I like to maintain my soft cap, and resists without the incarnate slotting since I do tend to examplar a lot and when I do I just enjoy being the meat shield! I am not a pylon player so this is just a rather ultra durable, damage dealing, fun toon to play. .. Which again I totally blame you for! Oh and ignore my power choice selection levels. . . I did take the order you suggested I just never got around to editing the build while I was toying with ideas! -

I am so not happy with you after this thread. . . Every time I have read a reply I make a new tank until you came out and pointed out the awesomeness of Fire/Claws. . . Thanks. . . Thanks a lot. . . Now I havent touched any of my other characters in a week! And at level 42 I have burned through multiple respecs trying to find the build that works for me because this girl has been way to much fun!!!! And to think, I was so enjoying my Shield/StJ character before all of this. . .

For the most part, this community has mostly been helpful and informative. . . True sometimes we argue and bicker - usually over math (which thankfully I am to dumb to argue about) - but the OG (Original Gamers) are usually exceptionally helpful. I think the biggest issue I have with this thread is I need to quit reading it because everytime there is a new response I make a new tank!

I HIGHLY recommend Shield/Savage. . . I know you have your Shield/Elec but my girl is one of my most played characters! SR/Savage is also quite intriguing although may not be enough mitigation for those "oh, crap" moments!

I started slotting at 35 and it is ridiculous. . . So much fun and I forget I am playing a Tank until I look up and realize my health barely moves. . . Soul Drain Ground Zero Radiation Therapy Dark Obliteration Shadow Maul. . . Maybe a boss or a couple Ltns left standing and that is at +8/+3 and I am only level 42. . . Seriously just scary fun!

It may be sacrilege for you @Heraclea but if you haven't tried re-rolling her since we came back I HIGHLY recommend Rad/Dark. . . Nothing my girl cant stand up against and the damage is right there with many of my scrappers. . . So MUCH FUN!

You two - @Bill Z Bubba and @Werner - are a big reason why I have gotten hooked on tanks lately. . . Every time I make a different character I come to these threads, read something one of you posted, and wham. . . back to my tanks. BillZ you are one of the biggest reasons since I met you on my first day in game way, way back in the OG days. . . I had a mace/stone mini-tank and you dropped a million influence on me when I was a teeny baby tank in Atlas Park and then spent 15 minutes helping me out with the difference between a tank and scrapper. . . Still to this day, one of the coolest moments I have had gaming in my - ahem - 35+ years of MMO's/gaming in general.

I have been playing more tanks then ever before after the adjustment a couple months ago and have to say I am hooked and in love! My Shield/Savage is far and away one of the most played characters I have (out of 250 or so) but lately she has been supplemented by my Rad/Dark - WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW AMAZING THIS COMBO IS!?!??! Now that being said, who is your tank god? That character that just walks into any mission, straps on his/her boots, and says, "F*** it, try to kill me!" And proceeds to just cruise through with ease?!?!?

I used something like this for leveling but the damage was a bit all over with procs sometimes firing sometimes not. . . So at 50 I went the route of 1-2 procs per power to add some damage but not proccing out the entire attack chain. I like keeping my to-hit and accuracy higher as I definitely noticed the misses without build-up active. I, have also, moved things around to pick up Rune of Protection so for 90 seconds I am nigh unkillable between defense and resists. Musculature is so enticing though. . . That being said, I do like some of the slotting on the defensive toggles and may mess around with some of those changes.

My Shield/Savage is by far the most fun, and most played, of any tank I have ever played including back in the OG days (before shield was even a thing). I absolutely freakin' love her! Good sprinkle of proc damage but HUGE radius on her attacks and she is nearly unstoppable!

I know this hasn't been mentioned but I quite enjoy my Shield/Savage Tank for damage. . . Yes, she uses procs liberally and no I have done a pylon test but she just "feels" stronger than even my /TW tanks. - even though their damage is better it "feels" slow . . Bio/SS is definitely powerful but the rage crash makes me twitchy. . . So I will cruise along with my savage melee tank and while I may not be the "uber" i feel like it!

And this is why I loved and still love this game. . . So many of the originals have come back and while I haven't teamed with many I still see them pop-up here and in game and love it. @Mother's Love, @Bill Z Bubba, @The Philotic Knight, @Abraxxus, @Heraclea, @MunkiLord, @Sir Myshkin, @Myrmidon, and so many others I met when I played originally (I have never found my old super group mates: Twilight, Agent, theDoc, and Fionnaulla). . . The one who had the most impact (other than the SG I mentioned) I have not seen in game and that was @GothGirl (even though that name does exist here). . . She was the one that started me on my badgewhore days because I teamed with her for a TF and she had like 930 badges (all of them at that time) and I never forgave her for that. . . I am sure none of this community remember me as much because then, as now, I mostly solo and am a rather infrequent poster on forums but for those of you mentioned here and so many more know you had an impact on me and I appreciate it. . .

So one of the first things I loved about CoH back in the day was the ability to customize my key mapping since I cannot use a "standard MMO" layout to play - long story but have nerve damage in my hands. . . So I was able to map my keys to suit my playing ability and was just wondering how some of you have your layouts - whether you are a newbie or an old timer like me. . . I run a pretty normal tray set-up: Tray 1 = 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 then down arrow Tray 2 + Alt+ 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 then up arrow H = hasten B = any build up power C = Combat Jumping S = Travel Power R = Sprint and then the fun ones: Movement Keys: Numpad 8 Forward, Numpad 4 Left, Numpad 6 Right, Numpad 2 Backwards with Numpad 4 and 6 = strafe Inspirations: Numpad 7 = 1st row, Numpad 9 = 2nd row, Numpad 1 = 3rd Row, Numpad 3 = 4th row, and numpad 0 = Row 5 Any other crazy configurers out there?!?!

Personally, I really like the direction vet levels took with the Homecoming Team. . . Everyone seems to argue about make it harder, make it easier, make it longer, but essentially this is a now a Free to Play game unless you donate and to keep people interested the main argument should be: MAKE IT FUN Those of us that started back in the day (issue 4 for me) know the ins and outs of this game fairly well. We know the TFs, trials, incarnate content, invention system and so on. . . Heck, the first day Homecoming rolled out and I made a character I went (at level 1) to PI and Founders Falls (2 of my favorite zones) and I knew every street and pathway to wander without dieing on a level 1!!!! And yes, it was surprising but also felt so good!!! The only things I would like to see added to vet rewards that would make it fun for me: Costume pieces that were never released due to clipping issues (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF THE PARAGON CITY HEROES LET ME MAKE A TRUE CARNIE STRONGMAN Brute or an ANNOYING CARNIE ILLUSIONIST TROLLLER!) -
low level Vahlziok! OMG why are they a low level group. . . Seriously, rework them and make them a level 50 group and watch the death spread. . . Back in the good ole' days it was Carnies, Carnies, and Carnies. . . But I love the screams as they fade into nothingness until my end is sapped and I die to that last Illusionist or Steel Strongman that somehow managed to phase or dodge all my aoe's! Nowadays, Rularuu and the Monstrosities from the Mender Monster Mash 🙂
