  1. You did use quotes, so that's the impression you gave.
  2. This is an incredibly ridiculous and ignorant thing to say. Simply being creative isn't easy for everyone. Exactly the same way math, or reading, or dunking a basketball isn't easy for everyone.
  3. What's the patent issue?
  4. This is only true for trademark, not copyright or patents.
  5. I like the idea so I'm all for it. But honestly the thread title alone was enough for me to sign off on whatever you suggested.
  6. I'd also like to add to this that copyright is often used for literal censorship https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2018/01/copyright-first-wave-internet-censorship
  7. In the context of writing or shooting for a website or magazine, I generally agree since that person is doing actual work. But in the context of someone making some unknown character in a video game or making fanfic, the creator isn't actually doing anything. Plus as a potential consumer whenever I hear about someone being a dick about their IP it makes me less likely to want to buy their stuff. Disney holds enough market share and power that they can do what they want, random person down the street may not be able to afford that.
  8. Perhaps if you had high sales. But unknown and struggling creators very well might be appreciative that anybody cares enough to play as one of their characters and give potentially free promotion.
  9. I wish I could give your response more than one like.
  10. THAT WOULD VIOLATE MY FREE SPEECH! YOU CANNOT IGNORE ME!!
  11. While not the same thing, as a former long time server and bartender I could be held liable if I let someone get drunk and they hurt someone else or themselves. So despite relying on tips and being in a customer service focused industry, if I said someone had enough to drink, there was no arguing about it. That's the way it was. And if they didn't accept it, I was happy for them to take their money elsewhere.
  12. Yes. Yes to all of this.
  13. I'm glad the world didn't end on Y2K because I was a dumb teenager that didn't know my limits and tequila napped right through it. Procrastination is my favorite past time!
  14. I believe that was the goal of this change actually, it was too good. But I don't think I've ever used this particular IO, so I didn't follow the conversation too closely.
  15. Right now, you are correct. But if this becomes an officially licensed server, which is the HC team's goal, that very well may change. Looking out for NCSoft is likely merely a means to an end, it will likely help the HC team reach their goal.
  16. This is something that can't be said enough.
  17. /jranger! There is not a /jranger to say yes. That would be disrespectful to the legend and his sacrifice in the form of a forum ban.
  18. Exactly! Which is why ideas by themselves don't really have much value, if any. It's the execution of those ideas that matters.
  19. Copyright trials have been won based on three consecutive chords in a song, which is just as ridiculous as the color thing you mentioned, so crazy shit happens.
  20. That very well could happen again, but this article from Ars Technica suggest it won't be as easy this time. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2018/01/hollywood-says-its-not-planning-another-copyright-extension-push/ Granted this is two years old and we're still a few years away from Disney potentially taking this up, but we could be surprised. Personally I have yet to hear or read a valid reason why it should last more than 56 years like it was for a while pre-1976. I actually believe 28 is a good number, with the option to extend it for an additional 28 if the copyright holder opts in.
  21. I would love to see that!
  22. You nailed it right here. A lot of people say creative when they really mean original. Creativity is difficult, being truly original is almost impossible for the average person.
  23. I think the AH needs almost an entire UI overhaul, but I recognize that is likely a massive amount of work.
  24. I didn't forget anything, if I have to spell out that my statement is my opinion for you, that's 100% your problem. More than legitimate, it's hypocritical seeing as how every person here is either directly engaging in or supporting copyright infringement. So no, it's not legitimate one bit. And since you need it spelled out, that was an opinion. You're welcome by the way.
